  • incredible! the force needed to win earth's gravity is just massive, i love it, i always make me think what made us what we are today... and not another animal...

  • Even though we do awful things to each other, and can be so destructive. Humans are pretty fucking cool! I mean damn.

  • awesome video!

  • yeah! fuck the ozone! :D

  • They should use antigravity propulsion rather then those ungainly rockets.

  • If i had a dollar for every pixel of this video id have 1081$

  • @FranciscoSRO2 $2,073,600

  • I watched it on a 32Inch 720p TV connected to the computer in full 1080p hd... wao... the sparks at the begining look amazing...

  • @True2TheBlueYoViGang it doesnt shoot sparks haha. its water bud. they sprinkle it all over the smoke driector

  • @rangerrunner11 wow i looked at it again ur right the flames make it look like sparks cool lol.

  • thats a lot of second hand smoking

  • your videos are awesome man!!

  • Great to see IRL - I did with Discovery. I was back at the Cape 8 months ago, but no launch

  • buen video

  • @tabakalero311

If that translates to you not being able to believe we can get so worked up over watching a "primitive" spacecraft burning "fossil fuels", you need a wake-up call: 1) the primary propellant is liquid hydrogen mixed with liquid oxygen....those are not "fossil fuels", but the two most abundant elements on the planet....2) there's nothing more exciting that mankind's quest to explore space and expand our frontiers into the final frontier!

  • at 0:05 AMAZING LOOK

  • my internet cant catch up with the video lol

  • I'm not seeing the difference between 720 and 1080. I understand the differences...when you're not playing something online...but when a video is uploaded to You Tube, how is it any better?

  • @terramar111 Youtube doesn't have good HD, never has. basically you use 1080p on youtube if you have a huge screen and 720p for normal desktop size.

  • the framework for the labs of tomorrow...no no no no no !!!!!!

  • WHO FUCKING CARES IF IT'S NOT "TRUE" HD??? Just shut the fuck up, and enjoy the high quality video already

  • haha...r u ok?

  • I'm fine. lol, all that happened is that i was looking up the new HD vids on youtube, and in the comment area on these vids all i saw was a bunch of yahoos commenting on how this isn't HD.

  • the 1080p over youtube is a load. you couldn't fit that quality onto a video and make it accessible.

  • you must not understand what 1080p means

  • i see it from my lawn . most locals dont even watch it anymore, we have seen launches so many times. but i ride down to the river alot last minute to park at A1A at last minute.

  • this is high quality...not actual HD... trust me, i've seen many full hd vids and this is nothing compared to bluray picture...

  • HD is not necessarily equal to better quality. Because of YouTube's limitations on file sizes, the best quality cannot yet be achieved, even though it really IS HD.

    HD != HQ

  • @stathismes I'd say it's actual HD now since you can put it at 1080p.

  • HD is just another term coined to describe a progressive image that is displayed at resolution of 1280 X 720 (hence 720p) - HD also extends to interlaced images displayed at resolutions of 1900x1080 (1080i).

Full HD comprises of a progressive image displayed at 1900x1080 (1080P).

Although this image is progressive and comprises of 1900x1080 pixels (in other words, it is full-HD), information loss during compression has caused the picture to lose its clarity.

  • you mean 1920 x 1080p, not 1900 :)

in my eyes this looks like a 576i/p feed at best. have you not seen 1080p samples? this is neither 1080i/p nor 720p...

MAYBE it was 1080p or 720p before compression...

  • Yeah, you got me, lol. It is 1920.

The picture in the vid still comprises of 1920x1080 pixels, however due to compression, it appears blurry. Compressing and then uploading is like upscaling VHS tapes to 1920 x 1080 - the image will comprise of 1920 x 1080 pixels but will not gain any quality.

  • that videos actually 1080i

  • I honestly don't see a difference between 1080p and 720p here. Looks like it's been upscaled.

  • holy high-def shuttle launches batman!

  • HOLY HD

  • HLY SHIT 1080PPP

  • powerful

  • awesome picture. I would love to film that

  • How does it roll? With fins on the shuttle?

  • It 'gimbals' the nozzles of the engines, as well as using the fins.

  • Do the astronauts do it or is everything preprogrammed?

  • Everything is programmed.

  • The SRB engine nozzles gimbal (swivel) to steer the stack during first stage flight. After that, the space shuttle's three main engines gain control.

  • there are like 6 grey circles which get torn on 0:02. anyone know what that is? It's right next to the little engine which is not fired (forgot the name, it's used for maneuvers)

  • It sucks in air to burn :) (oxygen)

  • no actually it burns hydrogen. How would it work in space if it needed oxygen? there is no oxygen to waste up there so you cant burn what you need to stay alive.

  • i think the ingiters

  • The igniters are those sparking things. notice that as soon as the engine's burn those things are torn apeart :)

  • The sparkling things are just there to burn off excess hydrogen and of course to burn the gases in case one of the engines failed to ignite.

Ignition takes place inside the combustion chamber well up inside the engine out of view.

  • Those are the caps on the maneuvering

thrusters, you'll notice them dotted all over the

    orbiters body.

  • They're covers of the RCS jets. They need to be torn away for the jets to function while in orbit.

  • somehow that's beautiful

  • It sound like he's saying little ass at 0:07

  • 24bit HD sound...so you can clearly hear the nasa sound mix which is always crap. I like the raw sound that individuals have recorded. =) Nice video. Any way we can find full duration segments from each angle?

  • wow this is bitchin' in HD...

  • Dude how did you upload such a very nice video ? :D

  • faved

  • It looks amazing in high-definition.

  • which camera is it?

  • i've love to see a space shuttle launch

  • Something you will never forget! Pretty awesome.

  • good luck with that, they're being retired this year.

  • Now on a 22 inch HD Flatscreen Monitor. That looks awesome!

  • And much better on 1920x1200 24 inch ;)

  • @ewtng mines almost as big as my couch :) led, but yes agreed

  • @ewtng on a 27 inch apple monitor it looks better!!!

  • @ewtng

Who doesn't have a flat screen monitor and theres no such thing as an HD monitor

  • @ewtng It looks better on a 23 inch HD Flatscreen Monitor :D

  • @llcoolk22 Pfft, 32" 3 screen eyefinity...

  • @llcoolk22 it looks better on my 40 inch Full HD monitor ;)

  • @llcoolk22 23 inches LOL thats chump length, you have to go at least 27"

  • @zasabiibasaz It looks WAYYY better on my 10000p HoloGraphic Computer..!

  • @ewtng you should try a 42"

  • @ewtng I watched it on the 44inch TV it's even more awesome...! :)

  • Absolutely beautiful. The space shuttle is a true example of awesome human engineering feats.

  • SweeeeT!

  • That was amazing ;w;

  • that has got to be the most amazing clip of a space launch ever, the picture is truly amazing, 5* mate truely amazing...

how big was the uploaded file may i ask?

  • whoa i love it!! man its too cool!!! WOOOOOOOOOO and awsome quality watch my video have hd mode too.

  • cool

  • Indeed it is very cool watching the Space shuttles In such deal. It's sad to believe that peoples interest has been lost from it nowadays.

  • STS-117 was the first launch I ever attended.Absolutely one of the most exciting things I have ever witnessed.

    Highly recommended.

  • @YOKID37 yeah people lost interest when they figured out the moon landing was a hoax and other events

  • @YOKID37 Yep, sucks that nasa isn't doing launches for a long time now.
