that heli was having collective problems before it landed as you can see the blades were loaded but no pitch, on landing, look at the vid just before landing one of the blades was not in sink so maby a pitch link departed and the cycle movements allso were very erratic, were as normaly would be in the , dick back position ,just before touch down
The people should been told to lie down me thinks, and why did the pilot take so long in cut the fuel to the turbine? maybe a control problem. Great clip-no injuries.
"Ok, everything's under control. That' normal." Ha ha ha ha! Why do announcers always need to say something like that. Any idiot can see that when the rotors are braked the are going to drop and impact the newly created stump. More like, "Get the F@#$ outta the way! Run!"
from the second angle you could see the pilot brought the copter in too fast and too steep of a flare, it was as if the landing zone was further in front and not in that field. thank God the rotors didn't break off and go flying

Now that I see the video a second time he may have lost visual on the landing area due to the high angle of the approach at the bottom of the "auto", and just set it down to close to the trees. And it wasn't the trees that tore the rotor blades apart, it was the extreme imbalance at high rpms.
In any case the pilot did a heluva job getting that bird and its crew safely on the ground without injuring or killing any body on the gound. If you live near an air base you might see helo's drilling this manuever. The reason it dropped out of the air at the end may have been caused by "power settling". Thats a little harder to explain. Some one else go for it.
That is called an "Auto rotation landing". It is necessary when a heli has an emergency... ie power failure, gear case failure, etc... Wether it was a demo or an actual emergency landing is unknown.
around 1:01 there was a cloud or puff of material at the tail rotor. Slim chance but maybe contact with the tail rotor and main rotor blades or delamination of one of the tail rotor paddles.
''they were lucky too land''......there main rotor [on top of helicopter] went of balance ''it seems'' and cause the helicopter un-flyable....you will notice that when he landed, the whole helicopter was off balance....no even sound and equallity in the stance.......those pilots were probally shitting bricks ,while the crowd were clapping....thank god they landed safely.
It almost looked like he did a quick stop with a high rate of descent. What was he thinking? Definitely got caught in his own down wash with that power setting, descent rate, and almost no airspeed.
It looks like they came in too fast and tried to set it down too rapidly and when the rotors hit that tree it seriously damaged the blades. You can see the whole helicopter wobbling about because the blades struck the tree's branches and threw the balance out of whack because the blades were damaged by the obstacle and eventually they broke in two.
