most cars this doesnt work. You have to sand the color off the rear of the gauge face to be able to emit different colors. I did this years ago in my girlfriends zx2. Its super easy, and super cheap! I did the whole thing for less then $10. Hot glue, 12v ebay leds, and 2000 grit sand paper. Its been work the same for years now!

i will give the basic idea how to bult this gaget.. take in mind that you need to know few this about electronics to bult it..

the heard is the lm3914, or any other that is suitable, they way to conect it is easy,

google and you will find the way, then you need a voltage to frequenci converter to drive the lm3914. lm3914 use voltage to bright the leds, hight voltage at is input more led bright, low volatge les led bright...

so your speed meter or rpm meter is take the signal from the engine, you need one ic to conver it, a suitable one is lm2917.. this will take the pulse from rpm sensor or speed sensor, convert it to voltage, drive the lm3914 and here you have a led speed/rpm meter. take in mind that you need a lot of skill and many hours to built this project, it looks easy but is not. try it at your own risk, this is for ejucational perpuse only.

Hang on couldn't you just run a sensor from the needle to a PCB board to switch a dual colour LED from white to red at the 6000RPM point?

Not that hard? Did something similar for my temp gauge, works fine.

@NorkiddExo Possible, but hardest part is to make the controller that picks up the signal and based on which set RPM it is at, it switch one color to other color.. not an average Joe can do....

LOL im sorry but complex installation and high cost? why don't you just get a shift light. take the internal assembly out tap into the rpm signal wire off the ecu and put the red light behind the cluster? SAME effect. high cost my fkn ass
