She didn't die in a car accident. When she was 21, she was injured in a bus accident. Yes she was impaled and that did break her pelvis as well as fractured her spinal and various other things. Throughout her life she suffered with extreme pain. She died at the age of 47; the official cause of death being a pulmonary embolism. It is suspected, however that she had died of an overdose but she never had an autopsy.
