Thank you for posting. This brings back memories. I too was hoping to hear the other side with the actual astronaut chatter. The photo around 3:05 threw me too. lol
Wow, this is soooooo cool ! Thanks a lot for posting this. I love Gi Joe. I still collect them today as an adult. No doubt, Gi Joe was the best toy to come out for a boy, ever i think. A sure winner for Hasbro indeed. Thanks again. Bob-------
As a patriotic American, and an avid GIJoe fan, I'd love to say that I enjoyed this video...however, at the 3:05 minute mark, there is a picture of 7 ragheads thrown in. What the hell are THEY doing in there?!?!?! That one picture BLEW the whole thing. Way to screw it all up!
Those 'ragheads' are the 7 Mercury astronauts after survival training. It certainly is a much different sort of picture than we usually see of these heroic men.
Hmmm...on closer inspection of their faces, I do see similarities of the astronauts. You're right, definitely NOT pictures we're used to seeing of our heroes. I jumped to conclusions. Being a Persian Gulf War veteran, I guess old feelings die hard. Forgive me.
I can understand your reaction. I believe that particular photo was first published in Life magazine in a spread on the astronauts before any had actually flown.

I have this record! Only mine is Yellow Vinyl. The second side has "Actual Mercury Spaceflight Communications".

My older brother and I would play this at 78RPMs and roll on the floor laughing. I really wanted to hear the other side though.

Wow. Even though it's been 40 years, I recognized that voice instantly and every word came back to me. Damn near cried, actually. :)
I must've played my copy over and over until it was nearly see-through. Thanks for a nice memory.

Whoa, easy there! lol!
You can definitely recognize Gus Grissom (3rd from right). I think Glenn is 3rd from left?
