I don't think people should be so against this. It was obviously a massive exaggeration of what they are trying to say to you. Just in general, you shouldn't be rebellious to those above you by instinct.
And yes, as a matter of fact, if you go by your own choices and never do what someone above you says, you may end up a bum on the street. For an example, you can't hold a good job unless you do whatever your boss tells you without question. This video is exaggerated but it's point is realistic.

The technical side of the film is clearly accomplished. The idea of following someone’s alternative life using the split screens and in such a short amount of time is an inspirational idea, however what the over all film is saying is 1. Offensive and 2. Extremely naïve.
What if the girl who goes outside, meets a homeless person, befriends them and takes them back home and the mother agrees to feed and house them until they get their life back in shape, while miss goodie two shoes wakes up the next morning to see a frozen body outside her house? Also implication that you smoke weed and therefore will end up on the streets is laughable.
Kurt here (Concept and Director of the short). I love these comments. The short wasn't meant or intended at all to show that not listening to your parents or not making decisions results in homelessness or drugs, it was merely to show that small decisions have a large impact on how your life can play out. The opening scene was actually changed from the script because of how we ended up filming and what we had to play with.
I do love how strongly you guys are reacting to it though.

I dont believe in the idea that smoking up would make this character homeless, maybe an alternative subversion to the plot would make more sense.

it's nice how each side of the story has a different feel to it. the left side is vibrant and lit with warm colors and the right side is dim and blue. took me a while to get the "cold" theme haha great job guys
