@eviltaithe2nd so the troy's stopping the death tax means they care for themselves? I'm sorry but that's an idiotic thing to say, especially on this subject. as far as I can tell the Tory mp in my aria has done a good job so far, better than what labour where doing, sitting on their arse all day spending your money on cigarettes and new cars.
@PlasmaticJj excuse me but i am not idiotic nor is it an idiotic thing to say. The tories have proved who they are already. My mother has been ill all her life due to an incurable disease. She has had money cut from her already as they believe if she can go to uni with full time support and educate herself so that she is able to get a decent paid job as she absloutely hates benefits and the system, she is automatically able to work in a dead end job in asda which would worsen her health. hmmm
@PlasmaticJj and furthermore they have been quoted that they think people on benefits ought to move their arses! All government is corrupt in my eyes as none of them truely understand how hard it is being lowest of the low in the social and class hierarchy. And they also expect me to care for my mum full time and hold down a job?? Caring is a full time job in itself, I would like to see them last a day

Another Tory lie. Gordon Brown is not planning a secret "death tax". It was merely one of several proposals put forward for discussion and debate in the house, but the Tories would not even discuss it.
Govts use fossil fuels and coal when clean energies were available and went on to blame us for their coal powered power stations and what's worse is we buy the coal abroad ,so this venture leaves no jobs for the English either, then they have the nerve to pass on the blame to the people about environmentalism The war upon terror (or the seach for oil)will soon leave our children sent off to war and to an untimely death ,this is the death tax the tories are proposing ,im worried about
Conservative for life! Labour has made this country a joke with immagration and tax. Taxing US to pay for immagrants?!?! no they should come here and earn their money and if they cant, they should leave!
Death tax is fine, why do people need money once they have died? Seems a bit silly to me, maybe it would be better going to treating people as appose to somebodies son/daughters new Mercedes.
David Cameron relies on the NHS for his severely ill child with healthcare that he would have had to pay thousands for on a private system.
The conservatives opposed Health Reform in 1948 to the same extent the republicans appose it in america today, yet love it now that the people love it !?.
iff there was a national care system where elderly were cared for regardless of how much money they have im sure it would grow to be as popular as the NHS.
The title of this is a bit of a joke considering how the Tories are happy to bring in national conscription if they win sending how many to their death ?If you doubt this read todays Express newspaper
Well i joined the army when i left school and arrived back from iray to find some teen delinquents had slashed all my tyres. Personally i'd like them to see what i sawm god knows you haven't.
Gordon brown is the lowest form of life that the government has ever produced, the man is not right in the fucking head, if he gets the tax payers money that his mp Malick has given to other countries back and spends it on NHS and the elderly then he would be well voted back in, his is no better than LONGSHANKS this government has bled the people of this country for long enough, brown go away hopefully toull be the first to pay the death tax just to set example to us all,,,,,,,
Tell me this, Why is it that the tv appeals can feed a person for 2 or 3 pound a month, and you want the elderly to pay 400 a week for care which is 1600 a month. Tell me that. This country will be pulling pensioners gold teeth out there mouths before they are finished. Read gordon is a moron and see what he has done to england.
What planet are New Labour and the conservatives living on. Completely out of touch with people.I haven't heard of a death tax before and it could just be Tory spin, but if it's true that's disgusting, and wasn't going to vote Labour anyway. With regards to the Conservatives proposal, how many elderly people do they know that can suddenly afford to make a contribution of £8000? This is why rich Conservative shouldn't make policy either. Not voting Conservative either.Voting LibDem this time
Quite clearly a scare tactic by the Eton boys club. Hardly morally right to use care for the elderley as a political football. The Eton boys are lying to you and me yet again. Vote UKIP.
@FMgman321 Yes..but Ukip is a fringe party. Whereas the tory party are likely to be in goverment soon(I know scary). The tories are the minstream face of sexism, racism and homophobia(section 42). They also can't wait to kills foxes again. NASTY. NASTY.NASTY
UKIP doesn't explicitly want to prevent a return of Fox Hunting. It believes in localism and that they would allow for referendums on local countryside issues.
The idea that the Tory party is still the 'nasty party' is becoming increasingly fanciful. There are still 'nasty' people in the party at a local level, but they are there in EVERY party. It is whether the Parliamentary Party is committed to following though on these ideas, of which none of the mainstream ones are.
The snobbery and inverted snobbery that has been going on recently is over whelming. Why is it so important to people? If only things posted on Youtube were actionable. 'Cameron probably rapes kids' has to score highly as one of the most absurd things I have ever heard on Youtube, and for dome of the illuminati/mason/truther/lizard people, that is going some!
When I said "Cameron rapes kids", I obviously meant his bad policies would create a society where we would see an increase in rape. I can provide you with the statistics if you wish. Cameron is bad for Britain.
The tory policies will cause mass unemployment and take us into a deep recession again, if not a depression. Societies in very deep recessions see an increase in rape, I can provide you with that evidence if you wish. Therefore Cameron by proxy will be comitting rape on women and children. Cameron is dangerous for Britain.
So what of the thousands of other economists? Are you going to find out what they think, or is the game just to have as many signatures as possible? Mass employment, more than already? Just because they have massaged the figures downwards a bit, doesnt mean that unemployment is at high levels, and at the rate labour is going, the IMF will force the govt. to lay off workers in order to qualify for the bailout they will have to give. Porxy? What a stupid assertion. Again, lets see the statistics.
Well obviously we can only look at the statements made the economist who have come out publicly. Guess what it shows?? That's right, a three fold support for the policies of economic fairness Labour wants. Apparently cutting inheritance tax for the very rich and cutting deep and harsh straight away are bad policies. Who would of thought? By the way unemployment under Thatcher was much higher. But then I dont expect you know your history.
It doesnt show that it has three times more support, it shows that they have cobbled 60-odd Keynesians to sign a letter. 'Policies of economic fairness', what the hell does that mean? A flat tax for all? That would be fair. Raising taxes in a recession and cuts to govt. was apparently a bad idea in a recession and 364 economists thought that was wrong in the 81. Turned out that there were 364 economists in the UK who had no idea what they were talking about, and kenysianism was debunked
The fact the tory party have only "cobbled" together 20 economists speaks volumes about their bad economic policy. 1981 was a less severe situation for a start and unemployment was MUCH higher then now. YOU are not an economist.
It's the economy stupid. Say No to Tory stupidity.
It is the economy, stupid. Finally something that we agree on. Thats why I will vote Tory. Cut down the state, reduce expenditure, slash spending, strive to eliminate the deficit and reduce the national debt, and then, eventually, (and hopefully) raise more people out of tax by increasing the level that you have to pay tax, and then start cutting taxes for all. None of that will happen under Labour.
I admire the fact you fail to adress the question of economic policy. Accept the fact more economists support Labour's plan for growth. Accept the fact Thatcher had worse unemployment. The tories dont understand what job creation means. Jobs is what will rescue us, it's funny you haven't mentioned that. The tories have no grounding in the real world, so they are unable to understand it.
My point was that 364 economists were wrong in '81. What makes 60-odd today right? Old Labour hadnt let the deficit run away as wildly as new Labour has. Labour sees job creation as something the state must do. Tories see it as something that business must do. With their policy of reducing corporation tax they hope to create more jobs. Labour put NI contributions instead, making it more expensive to employ people. What grounding do labour have? Even less than most Torys.
The IMF the source the tories have used to beat up Labour in the past, has now come out in favour of Labour's recovery plan, also add a three fold victory almong economist's to the equation. The Conservative legacy is a massive transfer of wealth and power away from the majority of the people to capital, away from the poor to the rich, and away from the country to London. When the private sector won't invest, the government must. Yet the tories object to this.
Again, economists are notorious for getting things wrong. How many saw the current crisis coming? The IMF backs the Labour plan, as the Torys cannot produce one with out treasury mandarins working on it. Whenever the govt. invests it results in waste and inefficiency. When, where and why must the govt. invest? Labours legacy is now the same as Thatchers, 13 years to resolve these so called problems. 13 wasted years. Either that or they aren't problems...
BobCassidy)Ops you have relly hit the nail on the head ! Your comment is the most realistic I have read to date & the sanest without a shadow of a doubt.
When VAT was temporarily reduced to 15%, the Chancellor added 2% duty to fuel to offset the reduction in tax collected from motorists. Now that VAT has been increased to 17.5% again this hidden tax has not been removed - hence recent rises in your fuel costs
Brown taxes and wastes money on higher wages for government friends. Browns high taxes are destroying the private sector and causing the current recession.
How disgusting to hear Mark Thomas praise the proposed new death tax. The government taxes people all their lives and then wastes billions of their money on useless rubbish.
People should be allowed to leave their home to their children. Labours Bernard Madoff style pyramid scam economy, built on rocketing house prices, means that sons or daughters will be made homeless and lose the roof over their head if this latest death tax comes in as they can never afford to buy a home of their own.
So when you employ somebody to clean your toilets you have not "paid tax on every penny" ?? Income is income and it must be taxed especially if you receive it for nothing in an unproductive way. Mine is a capitalist position, has nothing to do with the left. You on the other hand support a perverted version of capitalism called fascism.
See this is my problem with fascists like you, you would tax the income of the guy who cleans toilets for a living, but you would never tax the tons of cash that a rich kid gets for free.
That's not how it works, you have to actually WORK for the resources and the right to use them in any civilized society!
"punish the wise"
How are the rich kids wise?? If anything, they are usually dumber than the average. Leaving him too much money is a wasteful, unproductive use of the society's resources.
Why should we have to pay Gordon Brown's £20000 death tax after working for 50 years, paying tax and national insurance contributions. This is an outrage for hard working people who have saved and made sacrifices to buy their own houses. Brown and his cronies are no better than grave robbers so shame on them. I much prefer the Conservative ideas for a top up insurance.
Backdoor taxes are what Gordon Brown does best, from his first budget to his last and now yet another tax. It's time the British electorate gave him and so-called New Labour the sack.
Conservatives are just the same, they will make it hard aswell just under a different tax. The parties are practically the same, both have good and bad people in them, but few leaders to take this country forward. Cameron has no chance, I used to like him, but he could never relate to my situation, not him or any of those tories.
Are you for real? a) Cameron asked Brown 3 times at PMQs and he refused to answer b) Andy Burnham refused to deny it c) Labour are past masters at lying to the electorate
Brown, the worst PM this country has ever had the misfortune of having, and Labour are the desperate ones..on Sunday, we'll see the unedifying sight of Gordon Brown parading what should be private grief on national television because Campbell told him he should go on and cry..that is a desperate act from a desperate man.
@MyMrMikeyS | we don't even have a president here, we got a red headed PM, you fuckhead
doesn't change how London just looks like islama baad. also you have A LOT if n ot more niggers that us who LIVE next to you. i'd rather have some black guy respresenting my white nation, rathern that asylum seekers and system abusers to live in my street and steal me, my house, my family, relatives, money i and other earned over the years, etc
fuck foreigners. if i was a fucking foreigner id respect my host
Oh you poor love..even though the electoral field is biased in favour of Labour, they ain't going to win.
The public can't stand this freak Gordon Brown and can't stand him even more since he's made the country bankrupt and we're all going to have to pay for it..thanks Brown..shut the door on your way out please!
dont undersand how they will get 20k off me after im dead ,what happens if i dont pay? bring me back to life and torture me for it or send a highlander into the future for my head? i personally dont think its practical
no doubt Conservatives will be blamed for the cuts that have to be made through this governments unsustainable growth through legislation and job creation.
tax rises will come and we will have another dip in this recession.
Happened in the early 80's and will happen again. It is lose lose for the public I am afraid.
RobinHoodTax needs more coverage, check it out, really good idea.
Why have a press conference about something that is not Labour party policy? The Tories are really clutching at straws here.
The average cost of nursing care is £25K a year, how will an £8K insurance payment finance that? The insurance companies say that they are not interested, so this Tory policy is dead already.
What's this all about? Who in their right mind is going to voluntarily give the government 8,000 pounds? This is nonsense. Anytime a politician makes a tax voluntary you can be most assured that it will eventually be mandatory. Mr. Hammond is just promising the British public a "free lunch" in the hopes of getting elected. Conservative or Labor, all the money will still come out of the pockets of the British public.
It's an inheritance or estate tax, because in a fair society the rich kids shouldn't just inherit the whole country, they didn't do anything for it!
Then again, Britain is fundamentally a backwards society with aristocrats like David Cameron owning everything, so of course they resist anything fair and decent.

@pinochet222 Rich? this tax will hit those on low and middle incomes, it'll leave anyone expecting an inheritance of £20,000 or less with nothing at all, the rich won't even notice it. How people find taxing the dead acceptable is beyond me.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That makes it alright then? what about the living who lose out? Why would anyone bother saving for their old age if there is a good chance their hard earned will be taken by the government? you parasites sicken me.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I have earnt and paid tax on that money and if I want my children/grandchildren to have it then they should. Just because I don't need it any more doesn't mean the government should have it. Doesn't it bother you that this only effects those on low to middle incomes and will also take money away that may have been left to charities?
I just don't accept the premise that you are entitled to daddy's fortune!
Just because you were born into it, you didn't work a minute in your life, you will own thousands or millions of hours of other people's labor now?? FUCK THAT! IT'S NOT YOURS! You didn't earn it, you didn't do anything for it, it must be taxed much more severely than normal income!
No wonder Britain is a backwards third world county, with this kind of mentality!
If you call it a "death tax", you're a retarded neanderthal.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Your very bright are you? I was speaking as the person intending to leave the money, not inherit it. I have worked hard for that money and I have already paid tax on it. I won't bother replying any more, your inability to reply without resorting to four letter words has ensured these comments will get deleted.
It absolutely doesn't matter which side you're on. Giving enormous wealth to the undeserving is an insane waste of resources. And, frankly, it's not just unproductive and a tremendous injustice, it undermines the entrepreneurial spirit of the rest of the population when they see untaxed fortunes being inherited by "birth right". In a civilized society there is no such untaxed right.
I'm sure I made myself clear, without going into specifics, because we have a much more fundamental disagreement.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
OK I'll bite. £20,000 is not "enormous wealth" and remember if the total is less than that then the government will take the lot. That money isn't untaxed, tax would have been paid when it was earned and taxed again if any interest was earned on it. Do you have children? if so I find it odd you'd rather your money went to the government instead of them.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The point is that a person that earns money has the right to decide what they want to do with that money. That includes giving your money to anyone that you want to, which obviously includes your children. The REAL parasite is GB. He's attempting to steal money from the dead! The only person that would agree to give any more money to GB than he's already stolen is a dead person. If a man dropped dead on the street, I could easily envision GB decending on the man like a vulture and stealing all.
Yeah, the neo-Marxists are planning a death tax here in America. Obamao wants and Lenin Brown want to dibs on your family's savings--that is amoral and ridiculous.

It's the economy stupid. Say No to Tory stupidity.
zzzoe11 1 year ago
It is the economy, stupid. Finally something that we agree on. Thats why I will vote Tory. Cut down the state, reduce expenditure, slash spending, strive to eliminate the deficit and reduce the national debt, and then, eventually, (and hopefully) raise more people out of tax by increasing the level that you have to pay tax, and then start cutting taxes for all. None of that will happen under Labour.
FMgman321 1 year ago
I admire the fact you fail to adress the question of economic policy. Accept the fact more economists support Labour's plan for growth. Accept the fact Thatcher had worse unemployment. The tories dont understand what job creation means. Jobs is what will rescue us, it's funny you haven't mentioned that. The tories have no grounding in the real world, so they are unable to understand it.
zzzoe11 1 year ago
My point was that 364 economists were wrong in '81. What makes 60-odd today right? Old Labour hadnt let the deficit run away as wildly as new Labour has. Labour sees job creation as something the state must do. Tories see it as something that business must do. With their policy of reducing corporation tax they hope to create more jobs. Labour put NI contributions instead, making it more expensive to employ people. What grounding do labour have? Even less than most Torys.
FMgman321 1 year ago
The IMF the source the tories have used to beat up Labour in the past, has now come out in favour of Labour's recovery plan, also add a three fold victory almong economist's to the equation. The Conservative legacy is a massive transfer of wealth and power away from the majority of the people to capital, away from the poor to the rich, and away from the country to London. When the private sector won't invest, the government must. Yet the tories object to this.
zzzoe11 1 year ago
Again, economists are notorious for getting things wrong. How many saw the current crisis coming? The IMF backs the Labour plan, as the Torys cannot produce one with out treasury mandarins working on it. Whenever the govt. invests it results in waste and inefficiency. When, where and why must the govt. invest? Labours legacy is now the same as Thatchers, 13 years to resolve these so called problems. 13 wasted years. Either that or they aren't problems...

When VAT was temporarily reduced to 15%, the Chancellor added 2% duty to fuel to offset the reduction in tax collected from motorists. Now that VAT has been increased to 17.5% again this hidden tax has not been removed - hence recent rises in your fuel costs

As Michael Howard said when he was leader in 2005, Gordon Brown is a 'tax and spend' junkie.
I expect he will still be dreaming about raising taxes long after he and is wretched Labour government has been anihilated.

LOL you're just too retarded, piss off

Conservatives are just the same, they will make it hard aswell just under a different tax. The parties are practically the same, both have good and bad people in them, but few leaders to take this country forward. Cameron has no chance, I used to like him, but he could never relate to my situation, not him or any of those tories.

Why have a press conference about something that is not Labour party policy? The Tories are really clutching at straws here.
The average cost of nursing care is £25K a year, how will an £8K insurance payment finance that? The insurance companies say that they are not interested, so this Tory policy is dead already.

"A voluntary contribution of 8,000 pounds."

LOL@ "death tax"
It's an inheritance or estate tax, because in a fair society the rich kids shouldn't just inherit the whole country, they didn't do anything for it!
Then again, Britain is fundamentally a backwards society with aristocrats like David Cameron owning everything, so of course they resist anything fair and decent.

@pinochet222 Rich? this tax will hit those on low and middle incomes, it'll leave anyone expecting an inheritance of £20,000 or less with nothing at all, the rich won't even notice it. How people find taxing the dead acceptable is beyond me.

I have earnt and paid tax on that money and if I want my children/grandchildren to have it then they should. Just because I don't need it any more doesn't mean the government should have it. Doesn't it bother you that this only effects those on low to middle incomes and will also take money away that may have been left to charities?
oblivionuk 1 year ago
I just don't accept the premise that you are entitled to daddy's fortune!
Just because you were born into it, you didn't work a minute in your life, you will own thousands or millions of hours of other people's labor now?? FUCK THAT! IT'S NOT YOURS! You didn't earn it, you didn't do anything for it, it must be taxed much more severely than normal income!
No wonder Britain is a backwards third world county, with this kind of mentality!
If you call it a "death tax", you're a retarded neanderthal.
pinochet222 1 year ago

Your very bright are you? I was speaking as the person intending to leave the money, not inherit it. I have worked hard for that money and I have already paid tax on it. I won't bother replying any more, your inability to reply without resorting to four letter words has ensured these comments will get deleted.
oblivionuk 1 year ago
It absolutely doesn't matter which side you're on. Giving enormous wealth to the undeserving is an insane waste of resources. And, frankly, it's not just unproductive and a tremendous injustice, it undermines the entrepreneurial spirit of the rest of the population when they see untaxed fortunes being inherited by "birth right". In a civilized society there is no such untaxed right.
I'm sure I made myself clear, without going into specifics, because we have a much more fundamental disagreement.
pinochet222 1 year ago 2
This comment has received too many negative votes show
OK I'll bite. £20,000 is not "enormous wealth" and remember if the total is less than that then the government will take the lot. That money isn't untaxed, tax would have been paid when it was earned and taxed again if any interest was earned on it. Do you have children? if so I find it odd you'd rather your money went to the government instead of them.
oblivionuk 1 year ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
The point is that a person that earns money has the right to decide what they want to do with that money.
