ok i fucking hate this Matt Pais guy cus he gave district 9 a 4 out of 5 and he gives this movie a 5 out of 5....District 9 was so much better u fuckin moron
"Space. The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the starship ENTERPRISE (NCC-1701). It's continuing mission, to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no man has gone before..."
Good. Because I hated Star Trek, but this one is excellente. You can stay in denial, but most everyone else knew that Star Trek was a DEAD franchise until this new film revived it.
Lens flare. Lens flare. LENS FLARE. And oh, rubbish pointless plot. But obviously plot is overrated and not needed in the age of reboots, as is character development. The Kirk in this movie was as generic as characters get, the villain was as charismatic as a piece of bread.
Flares didn't bother me ONCE throughout the whole film. You must be a nervous individual. The plot? The plot was constructed around time travel to make sense in rebooting the franchise, with the crew of Enterprise young again. Nobody's overrating it. Kirk was KIRK on-point, Niro was a pissed-off villain, but if you expect Oscar performancecs in a Star Trek film I pity you.
Then pity me. If you enjoyed this movie, good for you. I didn't. Nothing is perfect, but IMHO this movie was forgettable.
I don't expect Oscar-level performances, but I do expect the storywriters to at least try to be imaginative. If you found the plot in any way exciting, or the characters believable, then be glad that you're so easily entertained. There's a virtue in that.
Of course there's a virtue in that. Same way I enjoy films like Memento or Requiem for a Dream - because I expect what's to be expected. I got all I expected from Star Trek, just a well-made summer flick. You know what I'm saying? lol
The entire opening sequence with the ill-fated battle between the Kelvin and the Nerrata blew me away. Seriously, I was excited as all hell to see the new movie and that scene gave me a near in-my-seat orgasm. Awesome.
...
Probably shouldn't have mentioned the orgasm thing. Oh well.
This movie erased the events of the original series so apparently humanity no longer explores it's role in the universe it just gets into a string of skirmishes with various misguided misanthropes who for some reason or another has a grudge against the federation. So Trek, once the best of thoughtful television has devolved into, "America... Fuck Yeah," in space. thanks a lot Hollywood way to make everyone just a little bit dumber.
Freakin great movie. Anyone that says it only has action and good visuals...then they are underestimating this movie. It has AMAZING action and visuals along with a solid plot line. Alternate time lines and time travel are things that can only happen in movies, and Star Trek is definitely the perfect movie for them to appear in. Abrams' directing is so much better suited to Star Trek than it is Lost, and his directing makes this film DAZZLING! All in all, I had a great time watching this movie.
I know! This movie was great! Not only was the plot line solid, but I found the acting to be great as well. Zachary Quinto did a GREAT job as Spock. Great movie. Kudos to EVERYONE who helped make it.
ST: TMP was nowhere near as significant as people think it is. It makes no profound point, has an utterly sterile production design and sterile acting and is incredibly slowly paced. The only saving graces were the soundtrack and visuals.
"I saw a preview last night. It absolutely kicks ass. A fast, furious, entertaining movie, with stunning visuals, some great gags and great casting"
The same could be said for any Michael Bay movie. What's your point ? Seriously you people just don't get it.
We KNEW it would have action. We KNEW it would have stunning visuals. Is that all it takes to make a good movie these days or something ? Every movie has action and visuals, how can something so transparent make a movie good ?
cool, seeing it Saturday. Im no trekkie either and hated the movies (enjoyed the TV show though as a kid), so hoping like Batman the franchise gets new life.
It's a fun movie, but it's not Star Trek. They should have given it a different title.

As i watched this film i heard a weird rumbling sound. After the film I realised what it was, it was the Rodenberry's turning in their spacegrave.

Another time travel plot?? PLEASE. Lazy screenwriters suck ASS.
FloydsterUtube 2 years ago
Hey they needed to restart the franchise and they did it literally with the time travel.
No one wants to see remakes and because of time travel in this movie they won't have to.
The movie was awesome.

Spock to Kirk: "Out of the chair.." (Captain's seat).

The scene with Kirk's father ranks as one of the top 5 in the entire franchise.
