  • This match was played on Wednesday 30th September 1992, and was in fact not shown live in some regions because Leeds were 3-0 down from the first leg. Leeds put up a brave fight, but went out on aggregate - until it was found that Stuttgart had fielded one non-German player than they were then (unthinkably now) allowed to do. Leeds then won a play-off in Barcelona, but went out to Glasgow Rangers in the next round.

  • The first leg I remember was not shown on UK TV. However on Sky back then you could pick up German TV and my mum and grandad went across the road to their friends house and watched it on RTL. I know the second leg was shown in the Granada region as thats where I am from and I watched it(they went, I didnt as I am Liverpool fan lol still like Leeds though)

  • Most regions *did* show the first leg of the Leeds-Stuttgart tie live - but Granada didn't, they showed Man Utd instead. The second leg could be shown because Man Utd's second leg was on a Tuesday teatime (in Moscow, famously with Alan Parry on ITV and Alan Green on 5 Live commentating from a bus).

  • Thanks, I didn't know that. I can understand Granada showing a North West team instead I suppose.
