Well I want a sequel cuz they have a lot of explaining to do lol. I damn sure wanna know how can someone who repent his sins, saved the world and all the innocent souls become Dracula. Did he use the "evil" mask to try to bring his wife back again and it turned him into a vampire? Or did he get pissed off cuz God didn't give his wife back to him or wtv. Questions, questions, I hope this game sold well enough to get a sequel soon cuz this cliffhanger is a killer.
@KalvinEllis Yeah I kind of was dissapointed with that too, well hopefully David Cox did say that 2 unnamed CV projects are in the works, many speculate it might be the Dracula's Curse game and the unplayable Demon Castle War of 1999 game since he did took interest in those two.

If they did continue with the modern look, I would be interesting to see Alucard and a modern Belmont (I think that would be Julius). Off the subject. Just beat the game! Good overall but TOO MANY puzzles! No place for puzzles in an adventure game. Must be at least 20-30 if not more. Complaints about puzzles in game call KONAMI at 310-220-8330. Hopefully the next one has no puzzles or animals stealing our relics/magic.

Because it seems like all he wanted at the end was to die with Marie. And the next game better not take place in present day! So much more could be done with that time between.

idk, I may be grasping at straws, but thats my prediction of the situation. Plus I just remembered that with the collector's edition of LoS, they gave you a free download of Symphony of the Night, another coincidence? I think not.
Also, look at Zobek now and notice he looks a lot like Shaft in Symphony of the Night, the guy who ressurected Dracula in that game. Plus in the video at 1:41 who do we see? Slobra, the first boss in Symphony of the Night. Another thing I wanted to mention was that before Lords of Shadow was released, IGN had a article that hinted at a return of Alucard, but then later I couldn't find it. So maybe Alucard will be in the next game, and Gabriel will be in a situation similar to Richter in SoN.
My theory: We can't help and look at gabriel and compare his situation, and appearance to Dracula's. Now you look at the fact that Kojima had some influence in the game, and it seems to be the Raiden/Snake situation all over again. They put Raiden through the exact circumstances that Snake went through to create a clone of Solid Snake. I don't think it's too much a strecth to say Zobek is going to try and use Gabriel as either a clone of Dracula, or maybe even to ressurect Dracula.

Okay... I'm lost here, I looked at the time of this game and it is 50 years before castlevania lament of innocence. In that game it conforms the feud between Dracula and the Belmonts. Mathias Cronqvist took up the title as dracula thus the feud began. Hideo Kojima Ignored this part of the story and made Gabriel Dracula? wtf... I'm glad some one made a flash of Kojima being emo and killing himself after that cartoon shows Kojima looking at ego raptor making fun of metal gear.

@CHAOSFOREVERETERNITY In one of his his loading screen narrations near the end (about two chapters before the final, IIRC), Zobek (Patrick Stewart's voice) actually called Gabriel the Prince of Darkness, which I guess was a giveaway to what he was to eventually become in the end.

@goldcecil first of all, kojima didn't make this game, Kojima put his name on this game but it has been developed by mercurysteam, a very small and young studio who hadn't too much resources and a very low budget from konami (as always). So they achieved a great game considering their circumstances. Second, many people and castlevania fans consider this a great game, a game that had to modernize castlevania but at the same time had to deal with the history of this franchise

Also, the use of the word 'dracul' may not be a mistranslation. In the subtitles, the word starts with capital letter. Being a proper noun, it has to be a title rather the meaning of monster or dragon. However, the original Dracula based on Bram's version is the son of Dracul, and thus Dracula. Therefore, without a father known, Gabriel should use Dracul directly if he intends to call himself that way.

Gabriel did not turn Dracul right away after defeating Satan. He exclaimed about his staying alive because he was impaled by Satan, and as such, he decided to use light magic (signified by blue electric) to its fullest at the cost of his life.
i think this version of Dracula(Gabriel) will be the hero of the series(basically the anti hero), these versions of Death and Dracula have not killed anyone, Death has lived amongst the humans for centuries and instead of enslaving an making an attack on the humans, Dracula is hiding in a church. Hell, he was in the middle of plenty of humans and i didn't see him eat anyone, they actually looked like they never even knew he existed lol

I used to believe Gabriel's good side has ascended to heaven and Dracula is what's left behind. Howver, have you noticed that Dracula is very unhappy about himself? Lords of shadows are usually quite proud of themselves but not this one tho. Also he is offended when Zobek calls him 'Gabriel', this suggests that Dracula doesn't want to be reminded with the fact that he was once God's loyal servant and that implies he's quite shameful of hmself.

He has a brother in heaven...and the Lords of Darkness held a truce, it's a very cruel game at that because, if the holy knights didn't do Gods work then the evil that Gabriel fights wouldn't be. The more they fought against the dark...the stronger it became. And now dracula holds the power of not one but 3 lords of Shadows...
I think it's more like your second explanation - Gabriel, for some reaosns(he might be haunted by his love for Marie), turned directly into Dracula. Notice when he said ' I cannot die, yet I cannot live'.

Im reading all the comments and it seem like there are lots of questions on how Gabriel became Dracula. Its quite simple. Sometime after he defeated satan he ascended to heaven like the brotherhood had but left behind his dark side which was how the lords of shadow came to be. His dark side just happened to be Dracula. Just my opinion :) I totally saw it coming after I beat the game for the first time. I just wanted to see if anyone else had a better explanation. Im still in the dark as well.

I just finished the game ,and the way i see it is that the game is take it to the next level specially the ending so for sure there is a sequel n ign website already said that there is gonna be a castlevania 2 i expect a lot in the second game n i want more answers like how Gabriel turn to be dracula now n Zobek as his friend etc.
If this game doesnt follow castlevania usual storyline it could be dracula, but if not, then each dracula was a different person possesed by hate, this could be a very AWESOME game EVER!!! for the saga, too bad i just watched it on youtube, i do not own this game... =__= too expensive yet to pay for it... but one day...

I love how they pulled it all together now you know why the Belmont family was sworn to take out Dracula and a konami revive of the whole Dracula history true there's something to be said for the classic but still also who else noticed the spear bearing bird from the games (sorry I never payed attention to its name.)
@gamerro25 Actually dracul was the surname given to Vlad II upon his entrance in the "Order of the dragon" founded by Sigismund to help the church protect the land of wallachia from the ottoman empire, and it literaly means dragon. The person we know as Dracula is his son, Vlad III the impaler, so him saying "Eu sunt dracul" only goes to show how people at konami didn't pay attention during history class...
@ryumajin3 I read in a book about Vlad Tepes (= Dracula) that in wallachia Dracul can also mean devil. Dracula in that sense have two interpretations: Either son of dragon or son of devil, depending on your wiev of Vlad III.
@gamerro25 "eu sunt" means "I am" in Romanian. Dracul is actually what he was called in Transylvania (real name "Vlad Tepes) but as his legend grew other cultures called him Dracula. Vlad Tepes would impale his victims (Turkish invaders) and eat his lunch watching them slowly die as their bodies slid further down the pikes. he would dip his bread in a cup filled with their blood which is where the rumor started of him being a vampire.

Also, look at Zobek now and notice he looks a lot like Shaft in Symphony of the Night, the guy who ressurected Dracula in that game. Plus in the video at 1:41 who do we see? Slobra, the first boss in Symphony of the Night. Another thing I wanted to mention was that before Lords of Shadow was released, IGN had a article that hinted at a return of Alucard, but then later I couldn't find it. So maybe Alucard will be in the next game, and Gabriel will be in a situation similar to Richter in SoN.

My theory: We can't help and look at gabriel and compare his situation, and appearance to Dracula's. Now you look at the fact that Kojima had some influence in the game, and it seems to be the Raiden/Snake situation all over again. They put Raiden through the exact circumstances that Snake went through to create a clone of Solid Snake. I don't think it's too much a strecth to say Zobek is going to try and use Gabriel as either a clone of Dracula, or maybe even to ressurect Dracula.

Okay... I'm lost here, I looked at the time of this game and it is 50 years before castlevania lament of innocence. In that game it conforms the feud between Dracula and the Belmonts. Mathias Cronqvist took up the title as dracula thus the feud began. Hideo Kojima Ignored this part of the story and made Gabriel Dracula? wtf... I'm glad some one made a flash of Kojima being emo and killing himself after that cartoon shows Kojima looking at ego raptor making fun of metal gear.

@CHAOSFOREVERETERNITY In one of his his loading screen narrations near the end (about two chapters before the final, IIRC), Zobek (Patrick Stewart's voice) actually called Gabriel the Prince of Darkness, which I guess was a giveaway to what he was to eventually become in the end.

@goldcecil first of all, kojima didn't make this game, Kojima put his name on this game but it has been developed by mercurysteam, a very small and young studio who hadn't too much resources and a very low budget from konami (as always). So they achieved a great game considering their circumstances. Second, many people and castlevania fans consider this a great game, a game that had to modernize castlevania but at the same time had to deal with the history of this franchise

I already knew Gabriel was going to turn into Dracula like a year and a half before the game came out.I had even posted comments about it on here in the Castlevania:lords of shadows game trailer page.the reason that i knew this is because almost anytime someone is on a journey to obtain power to resurrect some one theres almost always a negative outcome especially when the power you are seeking comes from a mask. just look at what the Terror Mask from Splatterhouse put Rick and Jennifer through

Also, the use of the word 'dracul' may not be a mistranslation. In the subtitles, the word starts with capital letter. Being a proper noun, it has to be a title rather the meaning of monster or dragon. However, the original Dracula based on Bram's version is the son of Dracul, and thus Dracula. Therefore, without a father known, Gabriel should use Dracul directly if he intends to call himself that way.

i think this version of Dracula(Gabriel) will be the hero of the series(basically the anti hero), these versions of Death and Dracula have not killed anyone, Death has lived amongst the humans for centuries and instead of enslaving an making an attack on the humans, Dracula is hiding in a church. Hell, he was in the middle of plenty of humans and i didn't see him eat anyone, they actually looked like they never even knew he existed lol

I came here just to see the ending and there is so much people asking if this is a prequel to other games or how Gabriel became "Dracula"... what were you doing while playing this? They tell you right in the beggining that this is going to happen wich is the only reason i beat the game....after Cornells fight the game is DULL, and then you fight the Dragon Titan...and dullnes again.

gabriel must have repented for his sins and rose to heaven leaving dracul behind as a lord of shadow or he used the shadow mask that zobek used to become evil because he felt unworthy of forgiveness hence why hes so depressed at the end i dont think laura would have turned him. plus zobek is death he a true immortal. notice to gabriel has none of his weapons armour ect suggesting the lord of shadow thing. there were heaps of little side stories in this game

I used to believe Gabriel's good side has ascended to heaven and Dracula is what's left behind. Howver, have you noticed that Dracula is very unhappy about himself? Lords of shadows are usually quite proud of themselves but not this one tho. Also he is offended when Zobek calls him 'Gabriel', this suggests that Dracula doesn't want to be reminded with the fact that he was once God's loyal servant and that implies he's quite shameful of hmself.

He has a brother in heaven...and the Lords of Darkness held a truce, it's a very cruel game at that because, if the holy knights didn't do Gods work then the evil that Gabriel fights wouldn't be. The more they fought against the dark...the stronger it became. And now dracula holds the power of not one but 3 lords of Shadows...

Im reading all the comments and it seem like there are lots of questions on how Gabriel became Dracula. Its quite simple. Sometime after he defeated satan he ascended to heaven like the brotherhood had but left behind his dark side which was how the lords of shadow came to be. His dark side just happened to be Dracula. Just my opinion :) I totally saw it coming after I beat the game for the first time. I just wanted to see if anyone else had a better explanation. Im still in the dark as well.

If this game doesnt follow castlevania usual storyline it could be dracula, but if not, then each dracula was a different person possesed by hate, this could be a very AWESOME game EVER!!! for the saga, too bad i just watched it on youtube, i do not own this game... =__= too expensive yet to pay for it... but one day...

@gamerro25 Actually dracul was the surname given to Vlad II upon his entrance in the "Order of the dragon" founded by Sigismund to help the church protect the land of wallachia from the ottoman empire, and it literaly means dragon. The person we know as Dracula is his son, Vlad III the impaler, so him saying "Eu sunt dracul" only goes to show how people at konami didn't pay attention during history class...

@ryumajin3 I read in a book about Vlad Tepes (= Dracula) that in wallachia Dracul can also mean devil. Dracula in that sense have two interpretations: Either son of dragon or son of devil, depending on your wiev of Vlad III.

@gamerro25 "eu sunt" means "I am" in Romanian. Dracul is actually what he was called in Transylvania (real name "Vlad Tepes) but as his legend grew other cultures called him Dracula. Vlad Tepes would impale his victims (Turkish invaders) and eat his lunch watching them slowly die as their bodies slid further down the pikes. he would dip his bread in a cup filled with their blood which is where the rumor started of him being a vampire.
