If it's Aretha's dream to do opera music in her own way, on her own label, I say go for it. Especially now when time is short. The Queen of Soul is a Juilliard scholar, and I think she'll be fine. That she's not Leontyne Price is not the point. We need to stop being content in defining others and being defined. I choose to live outside the box. I would buy an Aretha album of phone book recitals. Opinions based on shit are worth about the same and should be dispensed with accordingly.
Look, Back in the day , Aretha still had the range to do opera and do it very well, Regardless of her background ...as the years have worn on , her voice is not able to hit the same notes as she could circa 67 to the 70's , HOWEVER , I have seen her twice in concert and she absolutely killed it and they are the BEST concerts I have EVER been to ... She has NO PEERS ...and will always be the once in a lifetime QUEEN of SOUL ...xoxoxoo
I love Aretha...but um...Opera? Maybe because I'm a big Joan Sutherland fan I find her wanting to record opera a bit comical. She's best @ what she does...make great r&b soul music.
Aretha, I love you so much. I came to your concert here in dallas, and when you sang "gotta find me an Angel", i could not wait for you to get to my favorite part of that song, " I know there must be, someone, somewhere for me". As you got to that part in your concert, I sang along with you and continued through to "there's no misery, ah ah aaaaaaaaaaah oooooow" like the misery i feel in me, gotta find me an angel". As i screamed this in my balcony section you turned and looked!!!!!
I swear to God, if I were in that interviewer's place and Aretha so much as sings the first couple of verses to any of her songs, I'm am going to either (a). faint, or (b). break down crying. And I'm a grown man speaking here.
@HildaMcFumble Aretha Franklin is a legend, she looks great for her age. Who the hell are you to say she looks awful? I bet you look as vile as a snake in the grass.
i see your not comfortable enough with your looks to post a picture of yourself. Why judge the looks of a 70 year old woman? I would be very interested in how your holding up.
she's just REAL...thats what I love about her. She's like your Mom or some other strong female presence in your family. They look nothing alike..but she reminds me of my Mom, a lot. And my Mom is a big fan of hers.
Aretha is a wonderful woman. I have loved her since the first day i heard her on the radio in the sixties. I love her even more now, after this interview. I LOVE YOU ARETHA FRANKLIN.
Ms. Franklin, I am so glad that you have taken your on spoon, now dip, baby dip and continue doing your own thing. Look forward to hear your next projects........
Thank you for the information, another one of my favorites, "I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You", guess this was her first albumn...I will never forget the first time I heard her sing, she makes such a great impression....she has a great gift....Thanks again, Tangogirl100
ARETHA! You still look fabulous!!! I would love for you to make a new album. I love all your songs. My all time favorites are Chain of Fools, Respect, (There is a rose)In Spanish Harlem. Fabulous interview!
