  • The architect = Jacques Fresco

The Matrix = The Venus Project

    Anyone else see it?

  • Lmao i love it when all the neos are like FUUUU

  • What type of idiot would ever take a movie as fact, when this scene is good writing.

  • 3:00

at "varying grotesqueries of your nature"

george sr. and jr. bush are on the screens. lol

  • why use humans as ''batteries'' who doesn't accept it all, instead of using other mammals?

  • no one understands this jack ass coffeslopmasturbation

he goes to ppl vid just to shit talk fuck hi mother for raisng this dog

  • get a working keyboard=D

  • Which has led you inexorably here

    You haven't answered my question

Quite right you smug know it all fashion victim. The door on your left leeds you to the salvation of your androgynous she-man, the door to your right leads you on a journey up your own arse

  • if I were you I would hope we don't meet again...

  • Don't get mad at me for the comment spam! =D but I have one last thing to address: If the humans should present some sort of anomaly, why wouldn't you exterminate their race, and use the sun as an energy source. I understand that they explain in the animatrix that the sun has been blacked out, but are machines incapable of exiting the atmosphere? lol.

With all that said, that Matrix is a great movie; more of a political commentary than something to be taken seriously. Thanks for posting this.

  • actually they need energy to get to the outer atmosphere and back which may take more energy then its worth...why grab the apple on the branch when the fallen one is easier to reach.

then again some earthworms may be in the fallen one but its a risk worth taking to use less energy.

Maybe the machines realized humans had to be together to live longer and healthier, even if in their own minds. Maybe making more then one program was dangerous because then there would be more sources to control.

  • or maybe the machines are flawed because they were created by humans and thus have human feelings...which stop them from destroying their own creators for ... respect?...payback? ...or to study them because they lack something that the humans have?

  • The architect is nothing more than a machine or program attempting to make a perfect world to dupe its energy source into believing they actually exist (the matrix).

I understand there wouldn't be a movie without having the matrix, but machines could eliminate this anomaly by not creating the matrix thus eliminating the ability for humans to network.

While the chance is apparently slim, humans have the ability to escape their pods, it would only seem logical to make inescapable pods.

  • but if you remember what he said, "99% of all test subjects accepted the programing when given a choice, even if that choice is only at a subconscious level" They needed to make a matrix to keep the humans calm and sedated. If the sedated them the bodily functions that creat the bio electricity wouldn't work ergo no power. They needed them to be mentally active and calm at the same time the the Matrix was the best answer. Sence almost all humans accept it the used it and have comfortable living.

  • I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I'm saying the matrix is pointless if people have even the tiniest chance of escaping. Why connect them all to them same matrix? Why not connect them into their own individual matrices so they can't interact. Furthermore, there's just too many problems with using humans as energy sources. One might think they would at LEAST use nuclear energy because it's much more efficient.

I know it wouldn't be a movie without it, I'm throwing my 2 sense in.

  • Good scene, but they bog this down with 5 dollar words to make you think you're getting a whole explanation. The only thing said here of significance to the actual existence of the matrix is that human unpredictability will always take the form of a chaotic, unbalanced equation resulting in the anomalous "One".

The architect is not the god or devil, but a machine. Let's suppose god made humans, humans made machines and machines attempt to perfect themselves. I'll continue in my next comment.

  • Dude, he's supposed to represent the Devil! Calm down, he's supposed to be a prick. but you ought at least to respect him.

  • no hes not. the devil was gods right hand angel before turning on him.

this guy is more like the left side of the brain...and oracle is the right side...and the brain belongs to the main machine who might be the devil...or god of the matrix.

  • Dude, the devil is something HUMANS created to blame our left-brained evils upon. you inadvertently supported my point :) "Lucifer" was supposedly "God"'s right-hand man... That's a whole different story that you have to (re)discover for yourself.

  • no i didnt...the humans didnt create the architect...although the humans who made the movie did. Plus what do you mean left brained evils? isnt the right brain "evil" since ppl think left handed ppl are evil.

and....what do you mean by (re)discover?

But I'll be honest with you, thinking about it....wouldn't the devil try to interfere more with the human world.....the architect is basically just watching something he created.

  • Your secret handshake is showing.

Left-brained evils=domination by logic and ego and the false sense of self that comes along with it.

People think left-handed people are evil. Just look at the world such thinking has produced. Do you think they are correct?

rediscover meaning you need to find all that out for yourself, minus religious presuppositions.

The devil (only an external projection of our egos) does not need to interfere with the human world. he already controls it completely.

  • Ah, ok. My own thinking was something along those lines, but not as detailed. I wonder if there'll be another sequel.

    Thanks for the info!

  • architect is the GOD?

  • IF you have questions you might like to go to cyberpunkreview ... seek and you will find.... on the net... the matrix, the borders between fiction and reality turn to grey

  • I don't have a question on Zion, but on Neo. In the end he apparently dies, but when the girl asks the Oracle whether they'll see Neo again, the Oracle says that they probably will.

Will Neo come back to life, and if so, in what way could this happen?

  • This is perhaps my favourite bit in the Matrix trilogy, a pause in all the gaudy bright special effects, a bit like the discussion over dinner in Jurassic Park. i do think that, after the first film, things got a bit confused, too much trying to be achieved although thanks to those commentators here who have spelt in out plainly. it is after all just a film, something to while away a couple of hours.

    : )

  • This scene is just asking for a "DirecTV" parody.

  • can someone tell me what he says? haha

  • Basically theres been more neo's before him. And neos are made because the matrix is an equation and they are the remainder of that. The architect once had a perfect matrix without any neos but no humans that were in it beleived in it cuz it was too perfect so they all knew it was fake. The architect tried to make it less perfect but succeeded only with the help of the oracle. The architect still tried to eliminate the remainder but hasn't been able to succeed so the neos keep coming.

  • let me tell you this.

the screenwriters arnt exactly on the top 100 of inteligent people. look at what they do for a living.

dont put so much thought into it.

just remember, one or 2 guys wrote this crap, i am almost positive that they didnt fully understand some of the things they wrote.

    its just a script.

  • "Denial is the most predictable of all human responses"

-Please keep that in mind, and always advocate when speaking to other humans in this current society to Keep and OPEN MIND

  • dont break your head.

the logic of the 3 movies contredict one another.

the only thing constant in the 3 movies is the will to make money.

  • without raising his voice, cursing, or drawing any sort of weapon, this guy manages to be one of the most sinister figures in cinema.

imagine my reactions when one of my students told me that my speaking voice sounds like a relaxed version of this !

  • did you rub your hands together, croon a "muahahahaa" and plan your takeover of talk radio? that's what I would have done. As it is I sound like a Garrison Keillor whose testicles never completely descended.

  • Wow, I am agaped as to how complicated to human mind can be.

  • @KEMETNUBLACKNATION

not if you rebelled out of disposition, in which case it did not involve a choice, you just rebelled.

  • i wouldn't go that way.. i think the whole trilogy works like a metaphor for the world we live in, which is controlled by people that regular citizens don't know who they are. We live in an illusion, created by people who want to dominate the world by brain-washing people, the called 'control of the mind'.

  • what th eshit are you talking about??? the meaning of the matrix is enterally explained in this movie!!!

  • not exactly... it has to be aplied to our world to fully undersnatnd it.

  • Alright so im really confused, The old man says that this is the six matrix cycle happening, and that zion is going to be attacked but the one is going to save them and on and on...

But he also says that the one neo, and the previous ones have made a truth with the machines and have dide. So then why do the fucking machines keep attacking Zion after the truth. and why dont the other people know its the sixth matrix thing?

  • They have to attack Zion to prevent the resistance from growing too large. And from what I gather, it's necessary for Zion to exist so that the One can be contacted and called upon to act, ultimately reaching the source and beginning a new Matrix cycle.

  • hmm i see, but then do the machine leader like break the truth when it wants?

  • wtf? Why are people trying to apply meaning to this hodge podge of philisophical rambling anyways. Do people desperately want to look smart to others on the Internet. What dumbasses. Btw, why didn't Neo just kick that old guy's ass before leaving. He didn't even try.

  • Comment removed

  • i think you've missed the point here... Neo's five predecessors chose the right hand door. They followed what the architect had designed and the cycle of the matrix started over again. Neo chose not to be part of the machinery anymore. He chose to disobey (something that a machine would'nt do). "You are not a human being until you give the Man the finger"

  • My favourite moment in te movie. I work in IT and i'm fond of mathematics and I see in this scene, the Incompleteness Theorem of kurt Gödel ! Magnificent!

  • One of the Architect's biggest failings is that he doesn't understand intuition. Notice his face when he mentions the "intuitive" program called the Oracle, and the near disgust he has for the concept. It's why he can't figure Neo out at all, and also why his equations fail every time he tries to remake the matrix.

  • at about 1:55 what the fuck? he didnt answer his question? how not? he said why am i here? does he mean why am i in this room or why am i alive?

  • he means what is the ultimate reason of the whole sistem conducting him to that room

  • Truthfully, the Architect wants to know how your screen names have evolved. It makes me laugh in the fluctuation over the years the design of the screen name and how redesigned our culture has become. We need more investigation into screen names and who are naming you these systemic anomalies. Do you deny the acceleration of schematic code you are providing these machines? These machines are designing programs and ubiquitous transparent commonality on this basis. perhaps beta to alpha.

  • explain to me how the fact that you don't get it makes the MOVIE stupid?

  • hey r u talking to me fuck

  • It's really not hard to understand if you just listen carefully.

  • you mean "i am so stupid, i don't get jack shiiiiiit."

  • The first time I saw this I was in the theater I was thinking to myself, HOLY SHIT slow down old man...but after a few times watching this it actually makes sense and this scene is under rated, because I don't think the general populace is smart enough to understand it at first, myself being one of those people.

I think the underlying thing is no matter what a machine or computer program can perfect, it will never understand how to code something like love which then ultimately affects choice.

  • I agree, this scene is the best and answers a lot if you are willing to digest it. The most determining line is why his states that the answer was stumbled upon by a mind less bound by the parameters of perfection. Humans are imperfect and we strive for perfection. Therefore we created computers whose parameters is perfection.

  • I completely agree most people just hear a lot of big words and a long conversation and dont comprehend the what is actually being said. It not only makes sense but was very well written. However it goes far over the average persons head. Infact I think most people who like the Matrix series just like it for the action and dont even fully understand the storyline.

  • the storyline, and what the brothers really meant with the trilogy goes far beyond what most people thing it goes.

  • this seems like a statement i could agree with, but i'd to know what you mean, in two respects: what the authors intent was, and what the received wisdom on it is...

  • i mean, only they know what they meant, but i'm really sure that these 3 films were like a metaphor to what's happening in the real world. of course, it has action and all that cool stuff, but i think they have a point in here: things are NOT as most people think they are, and it's about time for people to literally wake up from this "matrix". this trilogy is not another sci-fi story, it's much more than that in my true humble opinion, and that's what fascinates me the most about it.

  • this kind of thing can go beyond intent. this is on the same level as prophecy. the artist moves as he is moved by his muse, not necessarily how his intent is to move. That's the key to real art. Channeling.

the machines and the humans are locked in a symbiotic relationship, with the machines maybe a little less locked.

  • The Architect says the Oracles purpose is to investigate aspects of the human physique (dont no how to spell it) and she basically told him that for the Matrix to work humans needed to be given choice however this ultimately resulted in the rebellion or the forming of Zion.

  • The Architect is not all knowing he is a program from the machines just like oracle is

  • Some of the most atrocious writing in recent movie history. The first Matrix was great, the next two a pompous mess: the chatter of a couple of stoned college sophomores who just can't stop talking.

  • Saruman would have been better as an architect xD

  • i wish i wouldve known about this in high school, but the architect is actually based off the creator of the physical world in gnosticsm, rex mundi, who is the inspiration for the devil in christianity

  • I just think that people think into this movie way deeper than it needs to be. The post modern philosophy of Jean Baudrillard, which is what the Matrix films are heavily based on, is bunk and useless jargon anyway, so these movies are no better.

  • ya um... just one vital problem with this scene... howcome the mentioned system crash killing everyone in the matrix never fucking happens!?!? That was a brilliant dilemma just deliberately pissed on! Neo saves Trinity, so the human race should have been doomed, but the next movie rolls around, and everything is hunky dory! The Wachowski brothers can't fucking write.

  • im pretty sure when neo dies the machines reharvested the code from his bdy

  • or you look at it a diffrent perspective does the arhitect really want to be the exucationer of the whole human race .. so bassicly he is bluffing himself . As he plays the role of the creaor but dosent want to play the role of the destroyer other then destroying zion agian and looping back to the same loop ..

  • I think you may be right, to a certain degree, but there are two problems. One, the information that we are given about the Architect's character in this scene establishes him as a higher intellectual and puts him in a deciding role of the outcome and cycle of the Matrix. So basically he's a god like figure, and through his speech pattern and what he actually says, I think it is safe to see the presumption that he would kill off the human race and not have any remorse for it.

  • The next problem is that your theory of the Architect showing remorse for the idea of his species extinction is not founded at all on the character that we are presented with in the movie. There is nothing in this scene that says that the Architect would even give a second thought about doing such a thing, and for all we know, he wouldnt. It is just inexcusable that we are told one thing very clearly in one movie, and then it is just scrapped in the next movie without any indication of it.

  • Also answearing the question if he has remorse maybe not we will never know .. But the problem with him killing of the human race and in that ending the matrix .. Then his purpose as an architect is also not needed anymore ergo he might sees to exist ;)

  • Yup well neo is to busy being analyzed to be asking any questions to the architecht about who who is .. i just recently came to that conlusion that were always asking where we came from etc whats it all about ... but does the architect himself understand himself since he is always the one putting others under a microscope .. that scene for me just realates to the universe not knowing what is is its only purpose is to create ...

  • The previous 5 "Ones" have only taken one path, therefore the architect has no idea what will happen if Neo attempts to save Trinitiy, he can only hypothosise, which is what he does when he says the entire human race will be wiped out.

  • You can't honestly tell me that is what the wachowski brothers had in mind when they wrote the script for the second and third movie. The architect is for all we know all knowing, and considering he created the Matrix and established the rules and the cycle, I'm sure that he knows what will happen if Neo does not reinsert the primary programming that he contains by going back to the source. It's just more accurate to say that the wachowski brothers can't write.

  • i think they based him on Vint Cerf. He looks just like him.

  • What a smug bastard that Architect is.

  • AHH SPITTIN THAT GOOD OL KNOWLEGE

  • Ergo. Concertedly. Vis-à-vis...

  • ... If only being an actual architect was this cool.

    :-(

  • fml, what the hell is really going on here?

  • The Architect created a singular consciousness, much like that of white rabbits that have converged permutations causing them to be twins, but not the clone; that different. The Singular consciousness is flawless, designed to solve every test with or without consequence; you be the judge. The singular consciousness is ergo, the destruction of another consciousness the code terminated (zion) a primal architecture of the modal architect and profound function of the one, and the intrinsic value.

  • good attempt at sounding intelligent. this reads like someone who doesn't speak english flipped through a dictionary and randomly pulled out multi-syllabic words.

  • You can hear me sounding Intelligent? VOIP

Might need to do a session of telepsychiatry! I question if neural linguistic programming works for you and stay wired to the Matrix.

  • so basically the first one failed because humans are too peaceful so they decided to make another one and give them a choice?

and the choice although people would think of as being free is really another way of control??? Explain? Agree? Rebuke?

  • the problem is choice

  • I enjoyed the character of the Architect and would have liked to see him more, but I assume that wouldn't exactly fit with the film.

  • yeah what he said

  • So Neo is a kind of virus that keeps occuring in every Matrix they launch?

And the Oracle was a program launched by them for research purposes that became self aware and forged a new mission to destroy the matrix and find 'the one' (the virus that can destroy it)???

And this conversation in this scene is just like all the rest of the matrix, a very complex MMPG?

REPLY PLEASE I NEED TO UNDERSTAND THIS

  • No. To put it simply. In order for the matrix to "run"

it gives a choice to a human subconsciously (live in the matrix. or dont) those who dont cause trouble.

The One, is ment to stop that trouble. or in this case...

    Survive it.

  • Ok Tesla, so like the first Matrix, if you dont give people choice and kill them if they want out, the Matrix fails (monumentally as the architect says but he doesnt explain how lack of choice does this).

  • The first matrix is a paradise, no problems at all, but people are not given any "choice" out of that matrix. It failed.

The newer matrix gives people a subconscious "choice" out, hence "redpill and bluepill" But this process destabilizes the matrix overtime, so they need to "reset" the matrix, and this can only be done through neo.

  • can someone answer what if neo chose the right door saving zion and the salvation causing trinity to die?, like why did the previous matrix's ceased to exist?

  • The architect already said, He said that if you go through the right door the salvation of zion will occur, and neo would have to pick 23 individuals 16 females and 7 males to rebuild zion, this was done by all the previewous "ones" but as we all know neo didn't choose this path.

  • Wow now i understand what happen to the world. Nothing is new under the SUN. We are living in this MATRIX

    WAR IS PEACE

    FREEDOM IS SLAVERY

    IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

    WE ARE NOT ALONE.

HOW CAN WE BE HUMAN IF WE ARE 75% WATER WHICH IS LIQUID.

    WOW ..........WE ARE NOT REAL

NO WONDER WHY THOSE WITH THIS KNOWLEDGE RULE OVER THE ENTIRE WORLD.

  • Existence exists.

  • If you are interested in the subject of existentialism, then I highly recommend Renés Descartes book of meditations.

  • guess you read too much of george orwell's 1984

  • How have you come to this conclusion ?

  • Hi, im gonna explain this as best as i can. The outline of key facts and ideas are as followed:

-Architect: Creator of the Matrix, a system of singular consciousness.

-Matrix: 5 matrices before Neo. Each has "the ONE". All failed...well succeeded in view of the machines(architect)

-Human race: Subjected to the Matrix. First matrices failed because humans wanted choice...The slim minority. This is where the "red pill blue pill" anomaly comes in.

  • Although the architect stresses the point to the extent of "choice". Even though the few who chose the ability "to choose" this is still on the conscious level(chemical reactions humans are subject to by matrix).

Zion is SUBCONSCIOUS. Matrices are effective in that the "ones" destroy zion for the good of human race. Zion is destroyed and matrix reset, thus a reaccuring cycle of energy for the machines.

  • Thus we arrive at this scene. The meeting of the architect(Creator) and Neo (the one). neo's job is to destroy zion, and resetting the cycle. Vis a Vis, neo's choice to choose love over humanity(Trinity). This goes against all preceeding ones. Trinity is said to have left matrix to save neo. This movie swaps roles of good evil in relation to bible. Neo is salvation for humans. Trinity is satan trying to bring neo to hell. Neo saves trinity and destroys matrix.

  • To people who think these are interesting metaphors...pick up a book.

  • For example Love!

    Neo: Trinity.

Yes. The Trinity... I wonder what he means by THAT for example. And the logic that was the metaphors retransform into the movie.

  • This was the exposition scene that tied the movies together, while simultaneously preserving the last remnance of the philosophical and intellectual implications of the first movie. The one that followed was a glorified action movie with abogut as much sci fi as Predator

  • LOL 1:57

    AWNSER MY F#^&ing question

  • I think the reason people hated the matrix sequels is because of this scene. They marketed the sequels to a broad audience, but the audience is the philosophical, literate kind. I suppose they had to though, the movies were damn expensive to produce, and it they had to make their money back.

  • I don't know if this was intentenal, and I doubt it, but the part where Neo has to choose the doors is in a way resembles a spiritual path.

The door to the right saves everyone, thoughs who fallow the right handed path fallow acts that're meant for the good of the many. The door to the left leads to what he desires, thoughs who fallow a left handed path are always more interested the desires of thereselves.

Then again, it could just happened that way.

  • The Wachowski Brothers actually intentionally included a huge amount of spiritual, religious, and metaphysical symbolism in all of the Matrix media. Your observation is not a coincidence.

  • i dont get how programmes (like the archetic) look like humans

  • It's just a way for the system to familiarise with the people. Think of them as a avatar, like in a MMO RPG.

I mean, it's much easier to familiarise with a something that LOOKS human than some big ass chunk of metal, no??

  • this is one of my favorite scenes of the movie. I think that when the architect says that you will understand some things and not others, he does not lie. This is where Neo realizes that the freedom of the humans is just another level of control created by the machines and that there is no such thing as freedom, its just a layer of Illusion. This is one of the scenes that I feel makes the movie the work of art it is.

  • this is one of those cinematic moments that really stick with you, even if you are unable to articulate exactly what's been said. Basiclly, i understand what the Architect has told Neo - in so much as he is intrinsically part of the system - but aside from that (and his true role being revealed now, the saviour of humanity by breaking his programme if you like) i'd get stuck..;.

  • THIS, is why I watched every matrix movie.

  • The Great Architect of the Universe, we meet for the first time, for the last time.

  • Comment removed

  • which door would you (or did you) chose?

  • To restart, we were overdue. =P

  • 1:18 "Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the matrix. You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you, inexorably, here."

  • The beginning kinda reminds me about what I read about near dead experiences.

  • Yes.

  • don't freemasons call God the Great Architect of th Universe?

And aren't the freemasons planning to enslave us all?

  • No, to the second part.

  • Lucifer is a myth. The Freemasons are not a religious cult, sure they welcome religious people into their circles, but their emphasis is on wisdom, not worship.

  • Yes, this is a freemasonic movie, and they are acting out the exact same script too.

  • Or rather, they are retelling the history of creation in movie form.

  • Neo chose the Satan door, not the Christ Door.

  • Every single one of us chose the "Satan Door", that's why we are here in this dimension amigo.

  • Genesis 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

  • The Matrix has flipped everything, put good for evil, and evil for good. Trinity did not enter the matrix to saved Neo. She fell from heaven, and wants to take everyone to hell with her.

  • That's an interesting perspective on Trinity's role. But what about the broader metaphors here. Trinity could represent just one fallen angel, or the race of women, take your pick.

  • how come man ?

  • Just look at human history. Women were hoodwinked into serving men, women's power was stolen from them, they became servants of the house.

But even greater than that, since the beginning of life on Earth, male organisms have been impregnating females of the same species through a very parasitic method.

  • Well if you can come up with another way to reproduce i'm all ears.

  • For the longest time, all organisms reproduced asexually, they just duplicated themselves and that was that.

I'm just saying women had a much higher role in ancient times, and now we've relegated them to being our breeding machines. Perhaps that could be what Trinity symbolizes, the fall of women.

  • i dont understand this speech tat much can someone plz explain it?

  • I think he's trying to explain that the previous iterations of the Matrix failed because the people in them refused the world in which they had no choice. By providing them with Zion, and what may even be a 'near unconscious' choice: To stay in the matrix, or to know the truth, he provides them with their own, unknowing sense of freedom, allowing them to live in peace with their own minds.

Or maybe I misinterpreted the entire thing...

  • It was more like, they rejected a word without imperfections based on the human need for it. So the anomalous One was created to bring it into balance.

  • Yes, he does say this, but after he comes to that conclusion, he says he failed again.

    He later says:

"She (the Oracle) stumbled apon a solution whereby nearly 99% of all test subjects accepted the program as long as they were given a choice, even if they were only aware of the choice at a near unconscious level."

And later refers to this answer to giving them choice as the 'systemic anomaly', i.e. The One.

  • No you got it.

  • When the Great Architect of the Universe created the third dimension, it was rejected by beings because it was such a carefree existence they had no reason to take it seriously. So the Architect introduces a trap: stay safe and sound in the Matrix, with all its predictable mundaneness, or risk the unknown. Truth seekers and cowards were satisfied.

FYI, the Matrix is not something from the future, it has been around since the Big Bang.

  • Not something from the future? If you're talking canon, and not referencing something outside of the Matrix series, then how could it have been around since the Big Bang? The animated short The Second Renaissance depicts the creation of the matrix, as the end to the machine war. Perhaps I'm missing what you're trying to say.

  • Any story is meant primarily to entertain, but the really great writers will throw in bits of higher wisdom, just to help the human race cope with its predicament. The Wachowski brothers are essentially retracing the history of our universe, from creation to present day, and bundling it up in a very edgy sci-fi/action series.

When you see the universe for what it really is, a prison for the mind, know that this has been the case since the beginning of time.

    Cheers. =)

  • Now here's the kicker. The 'Second Renaissance' portrays, in classic Terminator fashion, the destruction of mankind through its own hubris. We created technology so potent and limitless that it led to our downfall.

The surprising thing here is this story is supposed to be a metaphor for real life. The downfall isn't in the future, that's just the plot they created for the film. No, the fall of mankind happened when Atlantis sank below the waves, ages ago.

Truth is stranger than fiction. =P

  • Yes, Atlantis. There are a lot of things about the history of mankind that receive little if any attention in one's education.

But suffice to say, the filmmakers who put together the Matrix series are very much aware of this ancient knowledge. You can be too, if you know where to look.

  • You know who else believed in Atlantis? Nazis. ;)

I'm just kidding, but seriously, this is a discussion of canon, not external references, and metaphoric representations, however present they may be in the series.

  • Hehe, as you wish. Though my speculations shouldn't harm the discussion too much, perhaps it is best to leave things a mystery.

  • He's explaining how the One, Zion, and the Matrix are all keeping the other going. Neo realizes that the One is just a part of the Architect's master plan to keep the Matrix alive, and it has done so in the last five Matrices (they failed for other reasons). The other Ones chose the human race when they were given the option-but Neo chose Trinity. He was connected by love, the others by duty. His choice was different, not predicted, and therefore he fulfilled the true purpose of the One.

  • Alright, fine... You can be the 2.

  • yeah! I am the 2....woah

  • That's Pedantic Pie :)

  • shalow and pedantic

  • Pedantic, perhaps.. Shallow, hardly.

  • The right of self-determination of peoples has existed since man has existed. The right is based solely on one principle: sovereign thought in stewardship. It has been put many ways, such as taking dominion, exercising control, or what have you, but we prefer to believe in that it is the just stewardship of the Earth, for which we would exercise self-determination.

  • "The right of self-determination of peoples has existed since man has existed" No it hasn't.

There is no such thing as good or bad outside of the individuals perception. "rights" are just agreed upon methods of behaviour, institutions that don't really mean anything outside of peoples heads.

  • There's nothing about any institution giving rights, this whole dialogue is about choice. When he says "The right" he isn't referring to any court-given order, he's referring to free-will and the fact we always can and always will use free-will, therefore, a right.

  • People's heads are the institution. If not for self-determination no one would be here. Some have no capacity for freedom and lack the competence to govern thyself, they can accept outside programming very well and are indeed perfect for their condition. Others cannot acclimate to outside conditions as well and will always exercise self-determination.

  • SovereignBeing... We ARE the Ones.

  • this is true - the life of the human race hangs in the balance and no one even realizes..We need the One to show themselves..

  • I guess its time...Behold the Messiah...*points to self*

seriously, waiting for someone to take responsibility is pointless and groundless. we have to share the responsibility and build a new age with out own hands.

  • We find the one when We become the one.

    That's my theory.
