I grew up to this music as a kid in the 80's was craving to listen to newer music only to see that my mother was right that most of the 90's music was sampling and the 80's and 90's rock was originally performed by blues musicians. I never thought that I would say this later in my years but thank mama!
This young woman sang so much better the Diana Ross, yes she (Diana) had a good voice but there was a (whining sound to it) I did not understand why she was so famous! I am not putting her down but brenda was great yes I think underrated! I love this song my older sister use to play it but we still could not get the r&b stations so I did listen too some of the finest rock and pop songs of the 60"s I did not get to listen to r&b until I was in my teens !
I remember this for "him" and he would not let go only when he wanted too!!!!! I saw the moon and the stars was he, my breathe caught he my thoart each time I saw him, I am strong and stil love him but I heal my heart myself and I love this song I want to change for him but I am glad I am still me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This song has been with me for years, I often think about myself during that time in my life....wow this is the first time I've heard this song since I was a kid. It makes my heart smile....memories.....wow!
Oh my Gawd. Brenda was the bomb for sure. I ALWAYS felt like she should have been given the attention that was given to Tammi Terrell. This girl has a soulfulness to her voice that was not rivaled by ANY femail vocalist at Motown. It was totally not fair!
Her version of Whose Loving You, that was eventual cut by a baby Michael Jackson is a great demonstration of her range. Loved her and didn't hear enough from her for sure!
@daToinado The Beatles to open for them on their US tour in 1965. Holloway performed in the first rock stadium concert at Shea Stadium for the Beatles as their opening act. Her performance at Shea was featured in the The Beatles at Shea Stadium concert film which was released in 1966. Holloway was only one of three female acts who opened for the Beatles; the other two were Mary Wells and Jackie DeShannon. Despite her modest success, Holloway felt out of place at Motown.

i grew up with his sort of music :) so beautiful much better than the tosh we hear today :) wish their were more artists like her today. no idea how old this song is but my mum was 17 when she bought it i think and i just love it. she has an amazing voice.
What I would pay to go see is a movie of Mz. Holloway life story. What a shame to not get to know this vivacious and beautiful singer. I would sing this song while walking through-out my town on Colorado Blvd.
This is the music that I grew up listening to. This is real music,no disgusting lyrics, just singing about the most beatiful thing in the whole world that EVERYBODY understands and that is LOVE. This song is absolutely BEAUTIFUL,and it sounds just as good as the first time that I heard it about 40yrs ago. Take note all of you new artist.
Glads Knight gives her a run for her money on this song and the Funk Brothers added more juice to Gladys Knight and Pips version but Brenda just sort of make you feel warm and fuzzy and in love.
Worked with Brenda Holloway, she's the BEST! We did quite a few shows for the community, children and families out in the community at schools and WATTS SUMMER FESTIVAL. More love, Brenda Holloway! You are just as stellar today!!!
@donnab4real ..I guess the Past is the Past .....and ..Boyz. do Eventually become Men..Well Most of Them ... I Hope ...Good for You..... You Doing Fine and You are Fine =) Peace
alicia keys tries to sing this tune. she does not come anywhere near brenda's version. why can't these young ladies sing today? it is all about show and no voice today.
@alexalot23 I think Alicia is a very attractive Lady, but like you, she just can not even come close to Brenda"s version. Not even in the same league or field. Brenda Holloway is in a class of her own..The Gold Standard!!
I guess every woman can feel what's she's singing about. At least if she's a romanticist like me. A young girl when this came out but I remember how beautiful the song was and still is.
@Longshotsblues Thanks for the education. Didnt no she was a Motown artist. Funny though...they may not have benefitted as the others, but their effects are still lasting today. This song would quiet any room and it will always be embedded in my soul. Used to be in heavy rotation on the radio in Det. back then.
@Longshotsblues Yes... Motown natives can identify the Funk Bro. sound from 2 miles away, while wearing ear plugs LOL!. Sometimes I just lesson on Youtube to the instrumentals vids alone. It takes me back to a much happier time.
@TheMidcoast1 NO PROBLEM. Hope you check out other songs of hers. Especially " When I'm Gone ". On that one you will really hear FUNK BROTHERS and that infamous Motown Sound.
Such a beautiful lady & so talented. This is one of the best songs released by Motown.Brenda was not given a fair shot like some of the favored female acts i.e. The Supremes. She is one of the most underated singers of her time. Thankfully Brenda still performs today & her beauty has not faded. Viva Brenda Holloway!!!!
ooooooo she too pretty.

One of the very best songs from the era. It's timeless... it sounds as good now as it did then, and it will still sound great 50 years from now.

A song sung from the depths of the SOUL, and my favorite from Holloway.
The Two most overlooked Artists from MOTOWN.
Flo Ballard & Brenda Holloway
They both had the best pipes of ALL OF THEM.
It's a shame neither ever got their due at that time on that Label. Unforgivable
