Blocky and inarticulate drumming. Yes he is a great drummer, but he is not the "Pumpkin" drummer. Mike tends to break the flow of a song way too often. Its almost painful listening to SP classics with no Jimmy on the kit. You'll be expecting a certain "roll" here, or "hi-hat" there...and it just doesn't show up :(
I'm still holding my breath (probably in vain) for JC to return one day. I can do without James and D'arcy, but Jimmy is the real backbone of the pumpkins.
@thetheRedundant Sometimes they play pop ... sometimes they play rock ... and sometimes they play a combo of both. What am I supposed to call them? Metal? Grunge? Rhythm & Blues?
@thetheRedundant Haha. Alternative? Alternative to what? They were one of the biggest rock bands of the 90's; signed to one of the biggest labels in the world. Alternative is a lame descriptor for ANY musical act, even the most obscure independent artist. People use it in too broad a sense. It says nothing about the actual style of music that the artist makes.
agreed. Definitely miss Jimmy C, but Mike is going to be an absolute god of the Art when he's in his mid 40's. What an honor and opportunity. And Billy is fortunate to have young appreciative blood onboard...
anyone notice Mike on the drums singing the lyrics at certain points? lol and Jeff really has earn t his Jeff Shredder nickname this is such a great lineup
I'm glad the pumpkins are back but I don't like this new line-up, doesn't matter how good they are. It just isn't the same. You need someone like James, just as a person.
befoooooooore the last time, i feel as though....... my fucking god this is amazing. i wish i was there god.. please come next time i wont miss their show.. never again if they come by NY ever again. Smashing Pumpkins all the way!!!! i would have been jumping all over in the crowd.

@bigstereo How about 'alternative' like everyone else? I don't think I've ever heard a critic or fan call any of their songs pop.

@bigstereo I consider Smashing Pumpkins Fusion Music because they changed their musical style with every album.

@Tim8tei As long as billy is still fronting, and the bad sound good, it doesnt matter. James was a right mood killer back in 2000

One of the greatest love songs of all time and one of my favorite SP's.
This show was awesome and a great mix of new and old. Thanks BC for bringing back that "pumpkin magic," we really need it now!
