I'd be lying if I said I think we see our loved ones again, but I use it as a reminder to appreciate my loved ones just a wee bit more then I did the day before.

Lar, I just have to say that it's okay to be selfish...losing someone you love is never easy, but like you said, he's gone to a better place and this isn't forever. This is one of the best eulogies I have ever heard, because you didn't sugar coat everything, because like you said, he was a human being....he didn't have adventures, but he was an important part of your family, the community, and probably everyone else he ran across...that in my opinion, is better than climbing a mountain.

That life is an amazing thing that we should fully appreciate and that when someone does die, they should be remembered and loved. When I do go, I want my loved ones to celebrate my life and the good memories they have of me, not focus on my death.

Ugh, this reminded me of my granfather, he raised me and my brother while my mum worked after my father left us. Once you started I couln't help but start remembering my own memories and I grew sadder and sadder. The one thing I'd suggest to those around me is to pick a rainy sunday, set up the video camera, get a loved one out and get them to talk about thier past, thier childhood and whatnot and just record it. You could show your kids who they are and who they come from.

Casting faith aside as you said b/c this is not what this video is about. This video shares a message that spans all religions though no matter what faith you are. Death is as powerful as life, for without death one would not truly appreciate life. The message here is a strong one, and is simply told as a heartfelt love for your father and family. I have much respect for you sir and my well wishes go to you and your family during this moment of grieving.

I beg to differ, your father did live an exceptional life. That is apparent in your love for him and in your anecdotes of your family life as a boy. Being a father is not an easy job, being a good father is harder still. It is clear he was a good father.
You will see things and think to share them with him, only to be stung be his absence. Sometimes the smallest things will sting the most. You will never stop missing him, but it will hurt less. More wistful, less pain.

I'm Atheist so I won't argue religion and all that but I like to think there's one thing people of all religions (or lack of) can agree on.
That life is an amazing thing that we should fully appreciate and that when someone does die, they should be remembered and loved. When I do go, I want my loved ones to celebrate my life and the good memories they have of me, not focus on my death.

Ugh, this reminded me of my granfather, he raised me and my brother while my mum worked after my father left us. Once you started I couln't help but start remembering my own memories and I grew sadder and sadder. The one thing I'd suggest to those around me is to pick a rainy sunday, set up the video camera, get a loved one out and get them to talk about thier past, thier childhood and whatnot and just record it. You could show your kids who they are and who they come from.

Your video made me relive the death of my Opa when I was just leaving home. I wasn't able to be with him, and I regret that everyday. Your dad reminds me so much of how my opi did anything for us, and just enjoyed being surrounded by family. Thank you for giving me a chance to finally just grieve.

However, I am also happy, as I know you are, that your father is in a better place now. I have never been particularly religious, but I have never doubted the existence of God, if that makes any sense, and I hope that its at least a little comforting to know that your father is with Him now. Lar, I do not count myself among the people who believe in God. However, should he exist, I know that without a doubt your father is with him. I do disagree, however, on one point. He did go on adventures. He went on five of them. One for you and each of your siblings. My heart goes out to the grief of you and your family. My condolences for your loss Lar. I know that my father's health has been very difficult for him for the past couple years. I know that when it is his time, we will all be both happy and sad. I'm not a religious person by nature, but I did attend a catholic school when I was a child, one of the things I will always remember is a childish little rhyme I think no-one remembers the origins of anymore.

I would like to think that I have turned out to be the person I am today because of how they raised me but also how their loss affected me. First, my condolences to you; second, thank you for sharing this with all of us. It touched me, because a lot of what you say about your father is true of mine; he worked as a civil engineer, he doesn't really get why I draw, but he is supportive and the center of our family. I've also lost someone I loved, and as you say, our sorrow is selfish for being separated from our loved ones; but their suffering is over and they now know a greater life, which we someday will join.

:'( Aw, Lartist... loosing someone is always tough, I lost my mommy when i was only little... I miss her a lot sometimes... but don't worry. Just think that if your daddy was still alive he wouldn't wan't you to mourn over his death forever and never be happy again, he would wan't you to keep on a brave face and live on. It's okay if you want to take some days off of LICD, you need a break bud. :)

I beg to differ, your father did live an exceptional life. That is apparent in your love for him and in your anecdotes of your family life as a boy. Being a father is not an easy job, being a good father is harder still. It is clear he was a good father.
You will see things and think to share them with him, only to be stung be his absence. Sometimes the smallest things will sting the most. You will never stop missing him, but it will hurt less. More wistful, less pain.
