  • This is a very touching video, made me tear up. Your father sounds like he was a great person and a wonderful father, and watching this gave me some insight into how that much feel, to have had such a close bond. The loss of something wonderful is always profound, but it sounds like you're remembering to find joy in the fact that you had it. Anyway, thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings.

  • Very touching recount, Lar. I lost my dad when I was 9, and cried like a baby for days, and I can imagine that'd I'd do the same if it were now at the age of 31. Stay strong, and keep on keepin' on.

  • I am very sorry for your loss Lar, I hope that your days do eventually get brighter and that the pain will dull eventually. Hope you and your family are well, outside of the obvious loss. May your days be merry.

  • My heart goes out to you and your family. He sounds like a beautiful man who will be sorely missed. This was a beautiful thing for you to share; thank you.

  • My Thoughts and Prayers go out to you and your family, Lar. May the Light Shine Down upon You and Yours in this time of sadness.

"I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains... But I will admit that the part of me that is going will very much miss the part of you that is staying."

  • Dear Lar

Thank you for sharing. I read and enjoy your comics every day. (I am Norwegian, you have a wide reach.) They always brighten my day if I am down. I am an atheist, but am very happy that you are at terms with your dad and your god. My condolances and well-wishes.

    Trond.

  • My condolences to you and your family. I know how hard it is. Thank you for sharing.

  • Sorry for you loss, But rejoicing that you shall see him again brother

  • The thoughts and prayers of your many, many, fans are with you Lar. Thank You for sharing this with us. God Bless.

  • My condolences Lar. My thoughts are with you and your family x

  • I can only hope to be half the man / father your father seemed to be

  • I'm sorry about your dad. He raised a hell of a guy. Thank you for all your art over the years.

  • Thank you for sharing this with us. All my love to you!

  • I'm sorry for your loss... last weekend I put my grandma to rest. It is never easy to do! From my family to yours my thoughts are with you.

  • Lar, my heart goes out to you, sir. Just remember one doesn't need to lead a grand life to be a great man. "Consider the death of the body in terms of God and His law. Your life, the life within you, encompasses everything within itself -- not only those whom you have lost but everything -- it includes God within itself. And if there is a God in your soul, then your soul is full, and there is no loss." - Leo Tolstoy

  • I know you have a billion and a half comments here, but I thought I'd leave one, too.

Thank you so much for sharing with us just how wonderful of a man your father was. If only the world could live from such a respectable and honorable example that your father was. Through you and your siblings, I am sure he will live on, and from somewhere, he is looking out for you all, until you can be with him once more.

  • Lar, I'm glad you decided to share this with us, it must have been harder then I can even imagine. I and I'm sure everyone here is so sorry for your loss. I wish your family the best and hope you can find strength with each other, move forward, and remember the good times that you clearly had together. Again, my prayers go out to you and your family.

  • That was very touching. The three people who disliked this video can go acquaint their posteriors with a rake.

  • My Dad died several years ago. It was the hardest thing I ever went through.

I'd be lying if I said I think we see our loved ones again, but I use it as a reminder to appreciate my loved ones just a wee bit more then I did the day before.

  • I am SO sorry to hear about your father. My prayers for both him and for your family.

  • I feel for you, my grandfather passed away last week as well. It's good that you and your family were more prepared with his passing than we were. I give my condolences, and wish well for you and your family.

  • "It's not forever, it's just for now." -- Such elegance, such simplicity, such truth.

For all that it is worth, I share the same sentiment and offer others have - That my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this time.

  • Family is the bind that holds us as humanity together and separates us from the animals. There's no shame in making a video honoring your father, because we live on through the stories and thoughts of others when we move on to that great beyond whence no traveler returns.

Thank you for sharing with us about such a noble man as your father. You bring great honor on him by your deeds and works. We are a better people because of men like him, and through him, you.

  • Lar, you and your family are in our prayers. You've brought laughter and joy to us all, I feel it's the very least I could do (no pun intended) to contribute through prayer. Your father has moved on to a better place, and I wish you the best in your time of grieving and in your life continuing after.

  • Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant.

It is the same as it ever was.

There is absolute and unbroken continuity.

What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?

I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.

    All is well.

    (fin)

  • I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.

Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name.

Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone.

Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.

Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.

    (condt)

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your father. Its always hard to lose someone ,especially one so close to you, so I hope you and your family are doing well. In a book I once read the author wrote, its a bit long but maybe you'll find it comforting , who knows, its the thought that counts: All Is Well

    ~Rosamunde Pilcher

    Death is nothing at all.

    It does not count.

I have only slipped away into the next room.

    Nothing has happened.

Everything remains exactly as it was. (condt)

  • Sorry to hear about your father and may his soul may rest in peace.

  • My thoughts are with you and your family and all will be well in time. Take care

  • Dear Lar,

My Condolences on the death of your Father. I have lost many a family member this year and I know a little of how you feel. People come and go through our lives but no matter what they are always with us. Thank you for sharing this with us... It makes me as a reader feel much more in tune with the man who's art I look at everyday...

    Signed with Much Love,

    Brennan

  • I shall pray for you to bring you and yours peace. Take care.

  • /hug

  • Dear Lar

Redheadedweirdo here, I do read your blogs and I lost my own dad a few years ago. You will have good days and some bad days but you and your family will be ok.

    HUGS and kisses.

    Cindy.

  • Thank you for sharing about your father, he sounds like he was a great person

  • *hugs*

  • Lar, I just have to say that it's okay to be selfish...losing someone you love is never easy, but like you said, he's gone to a better place and this isn't forever. This is one of the best eulogies I have ever heard, because you didn't sugar coat everything, because like you said, he was a human being....he didn't have adventures, but he was an important part of your family, the community, and probably everyone else he ran across...that in my opinion, is better than climbing a mountain.

  • I've follow you for a few years, Lar. Thanks for sharing these deep emotions. Chin up, my friend, it'll be alright =)

  • Thank you for sharing your thoughts and love for your father with us. I am sorry for your loss.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. At least he's no longer in pain. This was a lovely video and your father sounds like he was an amazing man. I wish I could think as highly of my father as you do of yours. If you ever need someone to vent to or talk to about anything feel free to contact me. All my friends do. They say I give better advice and guidance than anyone. :)

PS, just so you know. I actually DO read all your LICD blogs. ;P

  • This video really had the essence of an individual who truly loved his father

    .

I hope one day I have a family; that my children are as passionate about and sure about themselves, beliefs and family as you and your family are.

I wish you the best in everything you do Lars and may your faith guide you from this loss and grow even more. Youre Father will always be with you

I am not a religious man, I do not believe in God but to the people who disliked this, you are despicable individuals.

  • I can't even describe how much your video moved me. In the shadows of the losses of multiple family members this year, I'm often in need of reminder to not take my parents for granted for some day they, too, will be gone. My condolences to you and your family and thank you for sharing this with us. It takes a real man to be honest about his feelings, his heartbreak. Much love to you.

  • My Condolences, You have a great out look, and your Father sounded like an amazing man. I never knew my Father, but have had a close few friends lose their parents in terrible accidents. My Father is not someone I'm proud of but listening to you speak was so touching. Good for you, Your Father will always be there.

    Bless you.

  • *HUgs* I am so sorry Lar. Your father sounds like an amazing man

  • Hey man, sorry for your loss sounds like your dad was a great man and that all the lives he touched will remember him for a long time to come.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. May the Lord keep you and your family-- and your father-- in the palm of His hand.

  • Damn Lar, your crying at the end nearly got me going too :(

I'm sure your Dad will be missed.

I'm Atheist so I won't argue religion and all that but I like to think there's one thing people of all religions (or lack of) can agree on.

That life is an amazing thing that we should fully appreciate and that when someone does die, they should be remembered and loved. When I do go, I want my loved ones to celebrate my life and the good memories they have of me, not focus on my death.

  • Thanks for sharing Lar, so sorry for your loss

  • Your Dad was obviously a really great guy. Im sure you will see him again one day.

  • I'm sorry for your loss Lar. I was touched by your story and I enjoyed listening to your fond memory's. I lost my father a couple of year's ago and this helps me to remember and appreciate what he gave me in life. Thank you.

  • Lar, I'm so sorry about your dad's passing, though it's good to know he's in heaven, waiting for you on the other side. Thank you so much for sharing this; it means a lot to me. God bless you, and help you through this time.

  • I'm so very sorry for your loss. It's wonderful that you have so many memories of him and I hope you can always think of him and smile.

  • Sorry for your loss Lar.

  • I`m sorry for your loss.

  • My heart and my best wishes go to you, your father and your remaining family. I also feel honored that you tell me and the world about your father.

  • I'm sorry for your loss Lar. This was probably the realest and most touching eleven minuets of my whole day. All I can offer you is my best wishes for you and your family.

  • My condolences to you and your family Lar. If you're a man of faith, your dad's in a better place now, probably shooting skeet with angels.

  • Ugh, this reminded me of my granfather, he raised me and my brother while my mum worked after my father left us. Once you started I couln't help but start remembering my own memories and I grew sadder and sadder. The one thing I'd suggest to those around me is to pick a rainy sunday, set up the video camera, get a loved one out and get them to talk about thier past, thier childhood and whatnot and just record it. You could show your kids who they are and who they come from.

  • Your father sounded like an amazing man, Lar, I feel honored just knowing about him. I'm sending all of my prayers and condolences to you, and your father is in a better place. Thank you so much for sharing this, he was truly a blessing.

  • Your video made me relive the death of my Opa when I was just leaving home. I wasn't able to be with him, and I regret that everyday. Your dad reminds me so much of how my opi did anything for us, and just enjoyed being surrounded by family. Thank you for giving me a chance to finally just grieve.

  • My condolences to you and your family Lar. Your father was a great man and the world is unfortunate to lose him. You have my prayers

  • I am so sorry for your loss Lar, I recently lost my grandfather in a similar fashion and my family taught me what I am sure you already know, family will always be there. My condolances to you and your family.

  • I'm sorry for your loss, Lar. Your right, your father is in a better place, and its not forever.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your loss, Lar. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

  • Losing someone is never easy, thanks for sharing Lar

  • I watched my father die at home. I cried from start to stop.

  • Sorry about your loss Lar, condolences and be strong.

  • Touching words, your loss can't be greater, my condolences go to you, and your family in this hard time you are facing.

He sounds like a man worth getting to know. I hope I get to meet something like he was, for all of us could learn a thing or two from someone like him.

  • be strong Lar you are a great man

i think we are reflexes of our own parents and to be a great person as you are and loved by thousands of people is a reflex of the great parents you got im truly sorry for your loss and the loss of your family and offer my condolences and if i may send you a great hug you maybe need it in this times. Be strong be great as a person as great as you are right now.-

Sorry if my english is not good im from argentina.-

  • God bless brother, I am sure hes in heaven right now. Thank you for sharing about your father.

  • I haven't logged into my youtube account in about a year, but I do so now to say this. I am truly sorry for your loss, Lar. However, I am also happy, as I know you are, that your father is in a better place now. I have never been particularly religious, but I have never doubted the existence of God, if that makes any sense, and I hope that its at least a little comforting to know that your father is with Him now. Cheers, Lar. And I will continue to be a fan of LICD and LFG.

  • My condolences to you and your family Lar. He sounds like a wonderful man who had an enormous and positive impact on your life and that of those around him.

  • I give my condolences and truly appreciate your views on faith. Very, very refreshing.

  • that was beautiful Lar, my thoughts go out to you and your family. I'm sure he would have loved his story being told x

  • Lar, you and your family have condolences. He sounds like he was a truly awesome man.

  • Lar, I do not count myself among the people who believe in God. However, should he exist, I know that without a doubt your father is with him. I do disagree, however, on one point. He did go on adventures. He went on five of them. One for you and each of your siblings. My heart goes out to the grief of you and your family. And I am glad for your feeling of relief, knowing that he is in a better place. May God be with you and your family during this period of grieving. All the best from New York

  • Sorry about your loss my friend. May you overcome this endeavor in life with a bright tomorrow.

  • that was very heartfelt, I'm sorry for your loss.

Your beard is very awesome btw.

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your dad Lar. Just watching this made me tear up, thinking about how I'm going to lose my own dad someday. I can't imagine what you're going through, but I wanted to offer my condolences.

  • Thank you. I have read your web-comic time and time again, when up and down, you make me laugh when I need it most. Your loss cannot be understood by any bar yourself but can definitely be empathised with by many. I wish you all the love and grace you require to help you through this mourning period and ask that you take from the fact so many people read and love your words everyday to be indicative of the 'work ethic', 'love' and 'values' your father bestowed upon you. My he rest in peace. x.

  • My love, thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Lar. As you said, your father is no longer suffering and he's at peace with the Lord. You know he's watching over you now, and is probably even more proud of you than before. God bless you and be with you.

  • Clearly an amazing man who raised an amazing son. My deepest condolences, his memory lives on in you. Please keep making the world a brighter place with your wonderful art, Lar.

  • you have an amazing beard.

  • A bit dusty in here all of a sudden. My condolences to you and your family, Lar.

  • I may not know you personally, but I love you man. And your dad loves you. To quote a song "When I'm gone, just carry on, don't mourn. Rejoice every time you hear the sound of my voice. Just know that I'm looking down on you smilin', and I didn't feel a thing, so baby don't feel no pain, just smile back."

  • Your dad would be so proud of you, I am so sorry for your loss <3

  • My condolences, sir.

  • R.I.P. Desmond Jerome deSouza. My condolences to you and your family. I lost my father at the age of 8. It is hard to lose a father, but their memory has a everlasting effect.

  • My condolences for your loss Lar. I know that my father's health has been very difficult for him for the past couple years. I know that when it is his time, we will all be both happy and sad. Happy that he no longer needs to struggle daily to breathe, but sad that he is no longer there to share in our lives and provide us with his wisdom. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  • "If I am at all a decent man, it is because of my parents." Your video was very touching, thank you for sharing with us, My thoughts are with your family.

  • As much as a death is painful, I am very happy he died peacefully in his bed, surrounded by his loved ones.

  • It sounds like your loss was greater than most who lose their father. Thank you for posting this as I plan on letting my father know how much he means to me. I wish you all the comfort I can offer through a youtube comment. Take care.

  • I am a huge fan of yours and im very sorry to here about your loss

  • I'm not a religious person by nature, but I did attend a catholic school when I was a child, one of the things I will always remember is a childish little rhyme I think no-one remembers the origins of anymore.

The greatest gift I ever had.

Came from God; I call him Dad

its.. a childish rhyme, but my parents are one of the most beloved and important people still in my life today, and thier lessons and morals who made me into the adult I have become,

  • My condolences to you and your family. Your father may not have been a famous man, but your rememberance tells that he was a great one.

  • Very well said. My deepest condolences to you and your family Lar. Your dad sounds like a great man.

  • Sorry Lar. I'm sure he's happy in God's hands. Nice beard.

  • Love :D

  • A father is a great person to have in one's life, and to have lost someone who had such an impact on you is a tragedy. I hope your family warm wishes and am sorry for your loss.

  • Condolences and best wishes to you and your family. Your dad sounds like he lived a full life and touched many lives. That is the best any can wish for and I am glad to have watched this tribute to him.

  • I felt inspired to pat the monitor, since I couldn't give you a hug. I appreciate that you shared that depth of thought and emotion about the passing the of your father. I extend my condolences to you and your family on his passing

  • God be with you and your family. He sounds like an amazing man, and you are so lucky to have a man like that. <3 Life will go on, and you will see him again. My thoughts are with you and your family.

    Be strong man

  • My parents and my family do the same with Saint Anthony. Saint Anthony come around somethings lost and must be found.

    I'm sure he's proud.

  • This is sad that you lost your farther but it was his time my best wishes are with you and your family.

  • You're an inspiration to share this. Thankyou for telling me about a good man.

  • Lar, My condolences for your loss. It happens to all, it's just never supposed to happen to us, you know? I, too, have lost close family members. I would like to think that I have turned out to be the person I am today because of how they raised me but also how their loss affected me. So now I keep in more contact with family and friends, even after many years apart. Time heals all wounds? Not really, but it does lessen the pain. Hang in there, amigo...

  • You have my condolences Lar, You have immortalised your father with your memoriam by sharing your memories of him with the world. Take solace in that you were raised to be an outstanding human being by a man who you can be proud to call Dad

  • First, my condolences to you; second, thank you for sharing this with all of us. It touched me, because a lot of what you say about your father is true of mine; he worked as a civil engineer, he doesn't really get why I draw, but he is supportive and the center of our family. I've also lost someone I loved, and as you say, our sorrow is selfish for being separated from our loved ones; but their suffering is over and they now know a greater life, which we someday will join.

    Take care.

  • My condolences to you Lar, you are awesome, thanks for sharing...

  • My deepest condolences on your lost and may he be remembered for years to come

  • good luck man

  • I lost my dad when I was young.

It sucks loosing someone like that, this is amazing certainly not an easy thing to do.

Thanks for sharing and stay strong.

  • Lar. Thank you so much for sharing this with the world. It touched me deeper than anything has in a long while. I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm happy you have found solace in such sadness. You are truly a strong and good man, and I only wish you the best. Thank you.

  • Your beard is AWESOME. I'm told your video is heavy but I can't really hear it (no speakers / headphones) so awesome beard is all I can say.

  • @manofadventure452

    His dad passed away. o_O

  • Sorry for your loss Lar. Your dad seems like he was a good man and had good innings.

    Good luck.

  • :'( Aw, Lartist... loosing someone is always tough, I lost my mommy when i was only little... I miss her a lot sometimes... but don't worry. Just think that if your daddy was still alive he wouldn't wan't you to mourn over his death forever and never be happy again, he would wan't you to keep on a brave face and live on. It's okay if you want to take some days off of LICD, you need a break bud. :)

  • you are one amazing guy, Lar, you really are. your faith is inspiring, your love for your father heartwarming. i wish your family the best. you can pull through, i'm sure you can.

and your dad was successful. he managed to raise you, didn't he?

  • I´m sorry for your loss, what an awesome father should be to inspire those words and what an awesome son are you to say them. I´ll pray for your dad tonight, he is with God now.

  • Love you lar, you inspire me and i am glad i found about who you are and help you with your burdens. *hugs*

  • My deepest condolences, Lar. *hugs* Your family and you are in my thoughts.

  • Deepest condolences. But my deepest blessings as well. For his passing to have tugged at your heartstrings so profoundly, he must have been a great man.

  • Lar, I'm so sorry for your loss. I can tell by listening to you that this has effected you deeply, and I feel for you. I deeply support you and I hope your days will ease, and the arts and time will aid you.

  • Lar, I am so sorry for your loss. This was a beautiful memoriam for a man that raised a very talented artist, an extraordinary human being, and someone I am proud to call a friend. He must have been one heck of a guy.

  • The Sarrow i hear in you voice when talking of your dad tells me the kind of man he was.

He sounds like and obviously was a great man and an even greater Father. May his soul find eternal peace and let his memories live forever. R.I.P Desmond Jerome deSouza.

  • im sorry for your loss but remember he's in a better place now were no harm can come to him. your father must of been an amazing man because look how u turned out amazing!

  • I beg to differ, your father did live an exceptional life. That is apparent in your love for him and in your anecdotes of your family life as a boy. Being a father is not an easy job, being a good father is harder still. It is clear he was a good father.

You will see things and think to share them with him, only to be stung be his absence. Sometimes the smallest things will sting the most. You will never stop missing him, but it will hurt less. More wistful, less pain.

    Good luck.

  • Dear Lar,

Sorry to hear of your loss. Remember though, everyone dies, not everyone truly lives. Your story shows your father had a great life and did many great things.

Keep up the good work :)

    Isa

  • I'm sorry for your loss Lars.

Rest in peace Mr. Desmond Jerome DeSouza. We'll see you on the other side.

  • that was very heartfelt lar. I'm sorry for your loss. thanks for making me cry.

  • This choked me up big time. I'm so sorry for your loss, Lar. There's not a lot I can say that everyone else hasn't said, but always remember that your fans are thinking of you and loving you.

  • I'm sorry to hear that Lar...I know how much a father means to someone, I have two, but they both are in my heart. I hope that you get better and that you know that he's in a better place.

And to think, the many uncles and aunts you had!

  • Your story brought tears to my eyes Lar...I could feel how wonderful your father was by the way you talked about him.

And like you said...this separation is only temporary. In Heaven, it's just one big family reunion. :)

My prayers will be with you Lar, for you and your family. Take care.

  • Condolences on your loss, Lar. Your family is the greatest thing you have.
