She'd need at least 6 months to 1 yr of stable recovery under her belt to regain fertility (in severe case the ovaries/pituitary become permanently damaged) and she definitely wouldn't have been able to carry a child to term in that state. She probably stopped menstruating years prior to her death

Its frustrating she looked so beautiful and happy that day. Yet it was a disastrous marriage. we may never know what went wrong. One thing I can say is someone once asked Elvis's bodygaurd following his death, wasn't it your job to protect him. The former bodygaurd replied. How do you protect someone from themselves? Karen had a mental dis-order that made her believe she was never thin enough. And it weakened her poor heart causing her tragic death on that sad day in 1983.
I always admired Karen as a person and a musician. It is b/c of her I chose to study music with a major in voice. But I didn't have the courage to go out there and "grasp the gold ring". I had a meeting set up with a very well known manager/ composer. Unfortunately, I couldn't walk thru the doors into the office and possibly a career in music. Wish I had her courage.

The wedding was gorgeous but during the whole ceremony and marriage there was always the feeling something was wrong. We will never know what. I do know Carpenter fans everywhere wished the best for Karen and cared very much about her well-being. @Hans021220 Might? I'd say chances are near 100 percent that she was completely infertile at the time she was married. During even mild episodes of anorexia hormone production ceases. She'd need at least 6 months to 1 yr of stable recovery under her belt to regain fertility (in severe case the ovaries/pituitary become permanently damaged) and she definitely wouldn't have been able to carry a child to term in that state. She probably stopped menstruating years prior to her death

I wasn't on a diet binge, I was a lifelong victim of abuse and starvation by my father and once I reached 15 I was no longer able to become hungry no matter how hard I tried. When food got in my mouth I instantly threw it up. Nothing they did helped me and I was dying. At 60# they let me go home for a 2 hour family visit and my brothers smoked a joint with me. I ate for the first time - cont.

If you're a Carpenters fan, read "Little Girl Blue: The Life of Karen Carpenter" - it will explain everything about her marriage and her husband. He pretended to be wealthy (she wanted a wealthy husband so he wouldn't rely on her wealth) and apparently he never actually loved her. She was bamboozled. Would she have lived longer if she'd never met Tom? I think she still would've died young because of her family's wacky behavior, but Tom certainly contributed to her downward spiral.

No, I think she loved him - I think she was happy on that day - it is how she kept looking at Tom, I didn't notice him returning that level of pride and happiness to her though - sad. But, she appeared happy on that day.

Funny- she got married on my birthday and on the day that I buried my dads father. It was a sad day for much more than I knew at the time. It really is sad that the marriage did not work out well for either of them. I know it would have taken a very special man to take care of and nurture Karen as she needed so badly and apparently he was not up to the task.

Its frustrating she looked so beautiful and happy that day. Yet it was a disastrous marriage. we may never know what went wrong. One thing I can say is someone once asked Elvis's bodygaurd following his death, wasn't it your job to protect him. The former bodygaurd replied. How do you protect someone from themselves? Karen had a mental dis-order that made her believe she was never thin enough. And it weakened her poor heart causing her tragic death on that sad day in 1983.

I always admired Karen as a person and a musician. It is b/c of her I chose to study music with a major in voice. But I didn't have the courage to go out there and "grasp the gold ring". I had a meeting set up with a very well known manager/ composer. Unfortunately, I couldn't walk thru the doors into the office and possibly a career in music. Wish I had her courage.
Karen I hate what "the business" did to you. Rest in peace. Maybe one day we will get a chance to meet and sing together.

I'm certainly a lot of people would have loved to do duets with her, I can see her having been an American Idol Mentor if she were indeed alive and still with us. I will always miss her. I first heard her voice in 1972 or so around the time of the "Water Gate" scandal while visting my Aunt as a young girl. The airwaves was filled with her and Richard's music and I loved it.

Karen's attorney was on a documentart stating that he warned Karen about Tom Burris's intentions. He saw a red flag but she was adament about marrying him. If her own attorney stated that 'TB' was a disease, he was.

One of the very first physiological changes that occurs during starvation/eating disorders are drastic hormonal imbalances which lead to cessation of menstruation. In some cases, if the disease is severe enough and has a long history, the sufferer becomes permanently infertile due to changes in pituitary hormones and ovarian damage

It just seems to me the men were more of a fulfillment to avoid her disorder, but sadly it didn't work. It seemed she meant men that were not good for her, and her disorder was something she had been battling for a long time. She was truly a beautiful/talented woman. Her music will live on for a long time(smile)

The wedding was gorgeous but during the whole ceremony and marriage there was always the feeling something was wrong. We will never know what. I do know Carpenter fans everywhere wished the best for Karen and cared very much about her well-being. Few artists earn the love from thousands of people she never knew that Karen did But even those thousands of people couldn't insure her happiness.
