@DeadManWalking65 I am greek american. i've been many times. one of my cousins over there is an artist and has a fervor for jazz like no other. we often jam when i visit. i was about to say initially that in a cafe there you can often here the coolest examples of this american art form that we've all but forgotten here. what i really want is something as cool and original as this. not mere cover...no matter how good it is. sadly most of what we get even in nyc is mostly cover house bands.

this is the sickest, illest, stratospheric ass-kickin' I ever saw on drums and lead guitar. you can't hit it any sweeter than this. out of control bass drum by Buddy Miles and vicious, slicing razor guitar voicings by Buddy Guy. AAAAHHHHHHHHHH! Sicker than sick. This shit is SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I first saw this on VHS or Beta way back when, it was kind of tough to come by. Actually I think I bought it at a vinyl show and it was a horrid multi gen VHS bootleg of whatever was the original source. Anyway Buddy G blew our teenaged minds.
@ripoffhitman I HAD PRIVILEGE OF SINGING AND PLAYI NG HARMONICA AT BUDDY GUY'S CLUB ONE NIGHT AT OPEN JAM, AND GOT CHANCE TO MEET HIM, WAS AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE
Ohh yeah, super nice. While they all look so young, comparatively speaking ;-] Buddy Guy played at the King Eddie bar in Calgary, 1991 with his band of the time. It was a blessing for me, to see him in such a small venue. My first album in 1963, had him playing in a compilation; I think it was a Chess recording? Anyway, Buddy has legs!
Look at Buddy MIles at 2:01, is that shit funny or what? He's lookin' up to the moon as Guy goes into his 2nd solo. Is this shit exciting or what? Then listen to Buddy Miles' bass drum and flam at 2:24, that shit is SICK! Play on Buddy, both of ya. This tune gets me happy every time I hear it, about once a month for uplifting.
The pairings of Steve Stills with Cream bassist Jack Bruce and drummer Buddy Miles, plus Eric Clapton with bluesman Buddy Guy and jazz saxophonist Roland Kirk, are the attraction of this so-called "last great jam of the '60s," recorded in '69. Results are mixed. Stills is negligible, but sparks fly when Kirk and Guy (who thoroughly outclasses Clapton) are onstage, especially together for "Kansas City"; and the veteran, understated Modern Jazz Quartet
Songs: Those Who Are About to Die Salute You, Love Potions, Under the Jasmin Tree, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Primitive Ohio, Checking on My Baby/Texas Blues, Visitor from Venus, Bad Hat, Hoochie Coochie Man, Debut, Stormy Monday, Kansas City, I Say a Little Prayer, My Time After a While, Black Queen, Slate 27

hendrix and bruce were going to form a band with tony williams. tragically jimi's death meant it never happened. imagine what that would have been like!!! a lifetime cream experience
For the literal...Bruce decides he wants to be hyper-busy, leaving the bass line wanting for an RnB tune. Listen to 1:18 - 1:24, that's Scheisse. 1f:50 to 1:52 he sounds pretty hip even though busy. Bottom line (pun intended): When you're playing with Buddy Guy let him solo. But to your point about playing ahead of the beat (also known as rushing, not good), I notice that at :48 the beat goes to shit for a second, which I wouldn't expect from Buddy Miles; very strange moment there.
Jack is really hyper busy here; agreed. It's one of those things you either like or don't. It tends to piss off guitar players who expect the bass player to just play within the beat. I see what you mean about Jack. That's just him. I love it, but I can see where people don't. It's just one of those things.
Jeez couldn't someone have convinced Jack Bruce to play sax and noodle there and leave the bass playing to someone who wanted to groove? (I know this will get dings but Bruce's playing, while very adept, always seems to kill the beat to me).
he doesnt let the leadman lead......JACK pulls everyone along with HIM !! i dig it , others dont...! But i do disagree....I'M SITTING HERE MOVING MA HEAD BACK AND FORWARD TO THE 'GROOVE' HE'S CREATIN' ON THER....he's frickin' FUNKY
