This was a great week for me. I went to my first Detroit Red Wings game in which they won vs St. Louis the night before. Then watched Michigan win this game
The interception by Woodson with the Cougars ahead 7-0 was the critical play for Michigan in this game. If the Cougs had scored to go ahead 14-0, it is unlikely that MIchigan could have come back. It was a fantastic game between two outstanding teams.
Not sure what the theme at 1:55 is called, but it was also used during the Rocky-Drago fight in Rocky IV. Absolutely the perfect song for the Rose Bowl between the Wolverines and my Cougs. I was disappointed when we lost, but I still consider this to be the greatest moment in Wazzu football history.
wo wo wo hold on do you mean to tell that washington state actually made it to the rose bowl are you tellin me they were actually ranked and are you telling me they had more than 2 wins in a season
Man this Michigan team was loaded!!! Woodson, Backus, Hutchinson, A-Train, Streets, Brian Griese, Dhani Jones, Tommie Hendricks, Jerame Tuman, Marcus Ray, etc etc. But the best part of this game that i remember is when Bob Griese went down to the tunnel to congratulate his son and Keith Jackson got choked up on the air. What a moment. If you know the Griese's story then You knew what this meant to them, it was touching.
EVERYTHING for Ryan Leaf went downhill after January 1, 1998. As much a screw up as he turned out to be,..you have to give him credit for having a great college career. But thats all we'll give him. : P
That opening segment is kind interesting when you think about it today 2 guys Woodson and Leaf who's careers took off in 2 completely different directions.
Leaf- out in 5 years with a career total of 3,666 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 33 picks
Woodson- arguably the best player to ever come out of Michigan, and one of the best players in football to this day.
@Theaterman527 agreed. I mean c'mon, Woodson is the ONLY defensive player to ever win the Heisman. Christ, it seems so obvious now that he was the best player in that draft after Manning
Thank you for posting this. As a Wazzu alum, I appreciate that the editing of this one is very balanced for both teams.
I tune into this game whenever I need to remind myself of why I have hope. Even though my Cougs lost, I can't complain about the outcome because both teams left everything on the field and Wazzu proved they belonged.
A national championship game played in the afternoon.... I miss the days of waking up on January 1st and watching the Outback Bowl and the Citrus Bowl in the morning and then watching the Rose, Fiesta, Orange, and Sugar Bowls.... god College Football was the shit in the 90s.
I was in 6th grade and this was the first year I started watching the Wolverines. What great timing! I've been a die hard Michigan fan ever since. GO BLUE!
Remember when I was watching this when I was only 11 years old. I was so nervous Michigan was gonna lose it, but they held on. I was so happy when they won National Champions 1997 loved this team!
Funny even though this clinched the national championship for Michigan, it was not one of their better played games that year. Little bit of an ugly win.
Leaf talks about being one play away from changing the game, yet it was two big plays that turned around the game in our favor. It was really good that we didn't have to throw deep at any point during last season, that way when we did it in this game it caught them off guard.
Fuck yeah, WH! I had a feeling this was coming. One of the best days of my life. Also easily the most worthwhile fake ticket I ever accidentally purchased, used, and subsequently avoided all the geezer security guards they employ at the Rose Bowl Game. Thanks!!!
ready to see brady hoke get michigan to its next rose bowl

I like all the black visors that were used, I had never really seen a Michigan player wear one until I saw highlights of this game.
