IR laser paper cut

Lasers in cd players are pretty weak. It has to be a burner.

I wouldn't recommend using IR lasers though, use a visible red laser from a DVD burner.

IR lasers are dangerous because your eyes can't see IR, so you can't tell you're looking into a laser beam until your retina is burnt right off and you go blind.

If you understand what CCD or CMOS can pick up you'd know why it looks like a red laser.

BTW DVD burners has 2 lasers, IR for burning and reading CD and the very bright red laser for burning and reading DVDs.

Booth are good, don't be fooled with the dim one. It's just as powerful and more dangerous as the bright one to cause damage to your eyes.

@crazyshirtdude The dim red one is IR you can't see 99% of the light emitted. It still has enough power to do quite alot though if you use it correctly.

its realy hard to cut paper but that ir laser cut it preaty fast without a black line, how many mw is it or how many nms is it.

I removed most parts of a 20x spedd DVD burning drive drive, but remains the metal small case with the ens, since I couldn't remov the small screws. I added 3 volts suply but the red laser got weak and the IF laser (invisible to human eyes) didn't get any hot on finger. Have the device some resistor than should I remove?

if the laser started out bright but then got dim you overvolted the diode, and its ruined forever.

I started testing with 1,5 volts. After 1,5 showed nothing I used 3 exactly volts, and it got mediun just. The laser diode was still on the small metalic conjunct with heatsink and optics. Strange...

don't remove the screws. Pry off and rip apart the sled with pliers and a wedge. the use pliers to break off th metal part connected to the diode from the case. put in vice grip. break metal holding onto diode in half, popping diode out. you gotta be tough, fuck that sled!!!
