@brassas I think you mean the Kven language, which is a recognized minority language in Norway. (Actually it is a dialect of Finnish but the Norwegian officials haven't wanted to admit it). Kvens have lived in Norway for centuries, long before there was any oil money. There are 6700 Finns (checked statistics Norway) living in Norway, so they don't make it into the top 15 of immigrant groups. That doesn't look a wave of poor Finns coming to Norway.

An unfair union between the countries were created and Norway wasn't allowed to have a foreign policy and would have no king of their own. In 1905 Sweden allowed the union to be dissolved and Norway declared its independence. Also, the reason for swedes working in Norway has to do mostly with the strength of the norwegian currency, even though the unemployment rate in Norway is roughly half of that in Sweden.

Norway had it's own constitution (17th of May 1814) before the union was a reality, own military,own laws,own parlament. @brassas I think you mean the Kven language, which is a recognized minority language in Norway. (Actually it is a dialect of Finnish but the Norwegian officials haven't wanted to admit it). Kvens have lived in Norway for centuries, long before there was any oil money. There are 6700 Finns (checked statistics Norway) living in Norway, so they don't make it into the top 15 of immigrant groups. That doesn't look a wave of poor Finns coming to Norway.

@brassas You need to learn your history. Sweden won Norway from Denmark in 1814. An unfair union between the countries were created and Norway wasn't allowed to have a foreign policy and would have no king of their own. In 1905 Sweden allowed the union to be dissolved and Norway declared its independence. Also, the reason for swedes working in Norway has to do mostly with the strength of the norwegian currency, even though the unemployment rate in Norway is roughly half of that in Sweden.

@rourin You need to learn your history. The union King Oscar was dethroned by the Norwegian parlament, and Norway demanded to leave the short and unsuccessful union even if militarily. Norway had it's own constitution (17th of May 1814) before the union was a reality, own military,own laws,own parlament. Norway was growing strong economically those days as now, and needed embassys around in the world, and Sweden was a hinder for this. Today Norway is far above Sweden economically.

I've never heard that side of the history. Norway tried to force themselves out, tensions arose and negotiations began in Karlstad to decide the future of the union. Those negotiations led to Sweden letting Norway go. National pride is stupid and makes you change history to your own liking. Get over it.

Finland was all alone fighting against the biggest army - the Red Army - and the biggest industrial power - USA.
