i seen him in talas back 30 yrs ago playing the lead guitarists neck while playing bass and vice versa with the guitarist and blew the crowd away back then.billy has been an always will inspire my playing
Your all jealous!!! I know I am!!! Who can blow their wod with all kinds of super fast different licks and changes on the bass for 7:00 minutes?? Not you wankers posting!! Outstanding Mr. Sheehan!!! You have been the one to watch for 30 years!! Thank you!
Although I am a big Sheehan fan, I do admit that after seeing pretty much ALL of his solo videos, at some point he basically winds up playing things I've seen before..and it does/can become boring..But hardcore slap players face the same thing..At some point you're just playing the same patterns over and over..I bet comin up with something different after 40 some odd years of playing must be difficult
You telling me guitarists could pull off a move similar to that at 3:33 with their picking hand? I doubt that, they lack a thing called strength. People clearly don't seem to realize the differences between playing the bass and a guitar. Its a sad thing to see.

I wish he would leave his distortion off. It's always been my biggest gripe with big Mr. Sheehan; his distorted bass tone sounds awful. I mean, hell, with his distortion off, there's note clarity!
Billy always manages to sound great at first listen, although listening back (and I'm sure he's improvising) a lot of it seems luck over judgement that he's got those notes in that order. Which scares me. Even more so when I can listen to it 4 or 5 times and still see different things he's doing to get the sounds. And then I try and translate what he does to a gutiar and it boggles my mind that those sorts of things can be done on a bass!
@MannyBlue65 oh wow, i hadn't even thought about that lol. oh well, free advertising for Sam Ash, which just happens to be directly across the street from the Guitar Center i shop at...ironic huh?
@avafreak252 He has a stereo bass one input is for the neck pickup ( DiMarzio Will Power - formerly the Model One pick up ) the other is for the p pickups. He seperates his tone with the neck pickup sending the lower growl tone to one speaker cabinet and the mid to high range of the bass goes thru the p pick ups and into a different cabinet. If you take notice he has two heads and two cabinets to acheiev his stereo effect.
@SJ9495 He played with Vai, with Satriani and many others. With Paul Gilbert he played in Mr Big and he was also the bassist of the legendary G3 tours around Satriani/Vai... most inspiring fellow.
incredible the sound and melodies he gets with that 4 string yamaha and some people including me have the need to have duble the amount of string for what? Bravo Sheehan, amazing like always
I love Billy's playing, be it solo or with Vai, Mr. Big, or anywhere else, but the man seriously needs a bridge pickup. When he's playing at full throttle, there's not enough note definition. A good Jazz Bass pickup by the bridge would do wonders.
No offense to Mr. Sheehan or anybody here, but he plays with the same style as Steve Vai and he should go back to Vai's band. But again thats just me!!!!! UBERLY AWESOME STUFF!!!!!!!!!!
