  • this episode makes sense to me now. i always thought that the old man in the wheel chair was the one that went into cardiac arrest and i forgot that, earlier in the episode, ben was there to check on his leukemia. i always thought it was weird that after Cox gets back from the police station no one else acknowledges ben but Cox, but it makes sense why Cox beat himself up the way he did. I always tear up watching this episode. well written.

  • There are various reasons why I liked this episode, but one of the more important reasons for me was that this actually showed Kelso's soft side for once. It may have been the first time in the series, since he was really a demon of bureaucracy in the first two seasons. Dr. Cox even laid him out in the season finale when he was riding on Elliot.

  • 20 people dont have feelings and this a sad video but i still love it

  • Wow. I always cry.

  • Greatest scrubs episode everrrrrrr i loved this one. I was sad as hell when i saw that ben died. I loved the metaphors in this episode though

  • "shower shorts" for the man who has nothing to hide.........But still wants to?? :)

  • OH MY GOD HE"S GONNA DIE

  • i thought the saddest moment was Laveren's death...

  • @TheGuyWithBass cox's breakdown for me

  • I'm not an emotional person at all, I haven't cried properly for years and I've seen this episode I don't know how many times, but I still well up when I see this.

  • What's more, the most striking bit about this episode in terms of foreshadowing is the absence of Ben's camera after J.D.'s code. In one of the previous episodes, Ben was asked when he'll stop it with the camera, to which he replies, "I'll have it until the day I die." As I said in my previous comment, simply unparalleled storytelling.

  • Absolutely my favorite episode from Scrubs, The ability of the Scrubs to seamlessly integrate comedy and drama is practically unparalleled. I cry every time I watch this episode, and it never fails to hit home. One of my best friends from high school died of leukemia, and to this day I still have dreams about he and I talking/goofing around. I'm not religious at all, but some mornings I swear he and I actually spoke again.

  • honestly this did not make me cry but it almost did. the part where he turned and ben wasnt there and "where do you think we are" almost got me. and perry crying at the end...

  • can any1 actuly see the guy with the camera i think its ben but idk

  • @milomoo146 no they can't, hes just a figment of cox's imagination after 1:14 i think

  • omg that is so sad

  • =(

  • ''Where do you think we are?'' ( ಥـْـِـِـِـْಥ)

  • Absolutely incredibly powerful episode

  • sorry i mean i didn't unterstand it...

  • @DasKiraleinchen Same

Specially the "where do you think we are?"

  • @ShotDeadInTheHead92 they made us think that the old man in a wheel chair died but in reality, ben had the cardiac arrest...dr cox felt guilty thats why he was acting like that..he didnt want to admit that ben was dead...it was a really good episode, i was shocked when i found out that ben died

  • @Hater8215 Ahhh right I got it now, cheers for clearing that up :D

  • @Hater8215 I know, I felt so trolled. xD

  • @Hater8215

It was indeed. I probably should have known a long while back since he stopped taking pictures which he said he'd do until the day he died. :/

  • hä? i don't unterstood o.O

  • This episode is so amazing...i love it so much. whats so amazing about this episode is that they never say from the start that ben had actually died they only have JD come up to cox and tell him a patient they both had direct contact with had died over night...such an amazing episode....

  • i knew ben was dead when he didnt have his camera :(

  • I thought he drowned

  • gosh i remember this ep way back when :( teared up

  • oh dam

  • Ben died from Leukemia, Dr Cox knew Ben had died but didn' t want to accept it. Ben, I dont think was ever in the hospital for check-up's, the whole episode was in Dr Cox's mind, anyway, I cry every time I see it.

  • @Sukkii25

I think that Ben must have been there at the hospital since JD interacts with him once Dr. Cox leaves.

  • @cannotthinkofaname actually ur right he is at the hospital... the thing is that when cox gets mad when JD lets sumone die... well it was Ben who died during the checkup...

  • I cryed!

  • One of favorite 'Scrubs' episodes. Thanx for posting this! :)

  • One of the best episodes of the series.

  • I still remember the first time I saw this episode, and they started walking through the grave yard and I started to piece it all together. The comedy of scrubs is what made it great, but these kinds of moments were what mate id exceptional.

  • @xXDeamondtriPXx He had Leukemia, which went into remission some time ago but he never had another check up.

It came back and this happened. D:

  • out standing comitment! lol

  • he died from his cancer ='(

  • Sorry, I don't watch Scrubs...Who is Ben??? This IS really sad though...

  • @telephonicinvasion Jordan's sister, and Dr Cox's best friend. For the whole episode he was there, and Dr Cox thought he was there to come to his son's birthday party. At the end, it turns out Ben had died of his leukaemia, and Dr Cox was unable to face it.

  • @Dallas8844 Awesome, thank you. =)

  • @telephonicinvasion Correction: brother

  • 1:50 has to be the lowest JD's voice ever gets on this show xD

  • OMG thumbs up if you cryed T_T one sec hes there and then suddenly.....theyr......gone.

  • Poor Pinkie....

  • I just watched this. Ive only cried at 3 things in Scrubs. This, Lavernes death, and the very end of the series. I LOVE SCRUBS.

  • Comment removed

  • Jesus Christ this made me cry my eyes out. And then I watched it again. I fucking cried even harder.

Wtf is going on with me, I never cry.

  • scrubs, one of the few shows that really touched me, and made the character's express their feelings in a good way.

  • "The kid screwed up! - No he didn't he told you he had to many patience and swapped. - The kid screwed up! - Okaaay... Darn kid!"

  • So i forget when does ben die? I couldnt tell when he was alive and when he was dead when he was following cox.

  • @shimorishiak i think the camera is a symbol. When he has it: he's alive. When he doesn't: he isn't.

  • @aftertheearthquake Yeah. After all, he does say sometime: "I'll wear this camera till the day I die."

  • @shimorishiak

1:03 is the last time you see Ben alive. He was the code in the next scene.

  • man brendan fraser was so incredibly annoying in this show. it was almost surreal. and in the next episode the arrogant blonde nurse was even more annoying. this whole show was nothing but an annoying piece of crap although funny at times. which one is the funny guy?

  • @VCthaGOATdunker stop trolling

  • reminds me too much of my best mates death, I had to fight to get his last wishes but we did and he's now where he wanted to be :)

The 'Where Do You Think We Are?' got me as I was outside the crematorium and did cry a lot. I hadn't slept in days and was talking to Nick .

I really should stop watching this!

  • Press 5 and you'll hear the word Ear.

  • @killerofhope1 lame -.-

  • When doctor Cox says "As a rule of thumb I don't attend parties where the guest of honor has no idea what's going on", It sounds like he's talking about the birthday party, but he could easily mean the funeral.

  • @jmpp678

    I think he does. Subconsciously.

  • This ending give me chills and so does my lunch

  • Can someone please explain how exactly he died?

  • @JoelChavez7 In the beggining when perry goes to the police station he leaves Ben with JD and 20 minutes later he has a cardiac arrest.

  • @JoelChavez7 he had leukemia

  • @JoelChavez7 He was dead all along,He died of Leukemia it was he best friend. When he looks around and realises his mate wasn't really there its so sad :(

  • Who the hell can dislike this?! Must be the people that dried out from crying..

  • oh Ben OUTstanding commitment!! :D

  • nothin says good morning like a drunken human alarm clock

  • 5:06 one of the best parts

  • I cry every time I see this..

    It never fails :( <3

  • Scrubs the best programme to come out of america ever !!!

  • Poor Ted :(

  • HAHA!!! Homless Man, best part! BEEP BEEP BEEP, BEEP BEEP BEEP, BEEP BEEP BEEP!

  • Beautiful but MAN it took alot for me not to cry

  • this ep was on tv lastnight and I had to go toilet break and didn't make it in time to see the end of the ep so I got confused so the old guy didn't die it was ben ? O.O cuz I remember the old guy asking how his ticker was I immediately assumed it was him that died 20 mins after

  • @21TheSavant Same thing here.

  • Comment removed

  • Did anyone else think the "he's not going to die in the next 30 minutes" Had some pretty dark implications?

  • @alsowikk Yeah Ben passed away in the next 20 minutes...

  • @alsowikk It's called foreshadowing

  • @Pwned287 I may be wrong here but I meant for the random patient. I don't recall him being referenced again so I just meant it was a really dark random gag.

  • only time i've ever cried during a tv show/movie

    so touching

  • "Where do you think we are?" are the six saddest words ever uttered on television.

  • @toobnoobify Did you guys noticed that JD was the first person there with Dr. Cox? That is a true friend right there.

  • @toobnoobify thats make's me cry allready :S

  • Anyone else notice the half second of turk after ben says darn kid?

  • i know it's just a show but it feels so real because of al the emotions, that's wath i call quality =)

So fucking beautifull to see J.D., the person who dr.cox yells the most at, is by his side to support him to rough times

  • so ben died from cardiac arrest?

  • "OMG HE"S GONNA DIE!!" XD HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

  • i wonder how ben got so close to dr cox

  • @ettanole he is jordans brother

  • @grant93321 but he dont even likes his own sister. so what is so special about ben

  • @ettanole dr.cox was married to jordan and they were probably friends when they were married what is so hard to understand about that.

  • I dont understand...How did he die?

  • @guingla He had leukemia. It shows that he has it in the show before this.

  • no matter how many times i watchi this at 7:41 i start crying

  • I've never even watched scrubs before, therefore never connecting with the characters, but still brought a tear to my eye.

  • dr. cox is actually holding j.d. responsible for ben's death...

  • It's his look of realisation, that gets me going :'(

  • when ever i watch this episode it makes me cry

  • by far the saddest episode of scrubs

  • "where do you think we are?"

  • This TV episode is better than most movie I've seen.. Amazing.

  • dr. cox' face at 7:42..

    :'(

  • smartest show around...

  • Dr Cox : Shower Shorts?

Jd : For the man that has nothing to hide, but still wants to.

That cracks me up every time

  • OMIGOD HES GONNA DIE

  • Even though I knew it was coming, I still burst into tears at the final scene. TT

  • @AceKimiChan just like me..

  • have you noticed noone has aknowleged en after he died...

  • Comment removed

  • I am comfused, was it the old man who went into cardiac arrest or Ben? 'cause I know when Ben has a camera he is alive and when he doesn't he's dead, so I know he was alive for the first half but can someone explain this to me?

  • @MrDontwannafight I'm pretty sure it was Ben although i think they shoul've cleared that up when they said HE had cardiac arrest but maybe it was one of those things where you were supposed to get that it was Ben who had the heart attack and not the old man by the end of the show to keep you guessing the entire time. what happened to the old man i have no idea

  • Wow now that I know the backstory of the burial it's pretty sad :(

  • burials are pretty much the most cruelest thing everyone of us has to go through in life. of course i get the "last hounor" part of it, but its just dragging on and on that a important person of you died, even so you want to get over it.

  • this was the first episode i saw and i suspected Ben died when J.D. did not acknowledge him when he said add Ben to the list but when i figured out he was really dead at the very end i cried my heart out because i had done the exact same thing as Dr. Cox

  • sad show =-(

  • Would it not have made more sense to have Ben look a little more sick before going into cardiac arrest? he was fine, joking etc, then 20 mins later he's dead?

  • @MartomanLFC It's not uncommon for people with heart problems and such to appear perfectly fine even a few minutes before they go into suddon cardiac arrest. It's even happened on athletic fields, where players are playing the game and doing great one moment and then collapsing in cardiac arrest the next.

  • Awww Ben stayed with his dad throughout his tough time. This was a great episode and it was very sad in the end.

  • @crybabygirl08 dude, ben is dr.cox's best friend not his son

  • @Ninjafz Sorry, my bad. I've never seen all the episodes and just trying to catch up. :p

  • Dr cox had one best freind that he loved and he died , life is a bitch.

  • best show ever\

  • dr. cox: the kid SCREWED up.

    ben: okay....DARN KID! LOL

  • when i first saw this...i thought the old man had cardiac arrest...now i've realized that it was ben...huh...ya learn somethin new every day

  • can anyone tell me the name of this song in this clip and who its by thanks :)

  • @aab01uk Joshua Radin - Winter

    /watch?v=cHlf08yTPiU

  • im probably a retard for asking this, but why does he say "where do you think we are?" :P

  • @zombiespecialist cause he was talking to himself nd what he said abt his sons birthday party

  • @zombiespecialist he was hallucinating ben the whole time, he was dead, cox thought that they were going to a party or something or reception, but they were going to ben's funerals and cox didnt realize it so jd was like where do you think we are? and thats when it hit cox that ben is dead.

  • @balisong209 oh thanks, i knew he was hallucinating but i didnt fully understand it :P thanks

  • omg hes going to die why lord whyyyyyyyy.

where did it all go wrong.

dr. cox can seem like he doesn't give a rats ass about one of his patients but at the ends he really haves a heart for all of them.

  • no matter how emotianal this is for me (and im not really a big fan of scrubs) the "answer him!!!" always makes me laugh!

  • R.I.P Ben,

  • This episode, in my opinion, was one of the most emotional. Dr Cox has always shown to be a very strong person, or at least dodge his feelings well. But now we get a whole look at his sensitive side, and his lowest point with the denial and hallucinations. It was all over my head until JD said "Where do you think we are?" Then it hit me like a truck, and I was nearly sobbing! It pains to see Dr Cox hurting so much, and how did I not notice the missing camera? Poor Ben. :(

  • why does all the good people have to die :(

  • 0:05 "OMG HE'S GONNA DIE!" XD

  • "...no matter how lonely you feel, how painful it may be, with the help of those around you, you'll get trough this too."

  • And OUTSTANDING COMMITMENT!!! LOL. And that reveal was brilliant writing. AMAZING setup and payoff.

  • And OUTSTANDING COMMITMENT!!! LOL.

  • When i lost my sister it hit me so hard and i had no one to be there for me i wish i had what he had i had to go through it all on my i do not wish that apon anyone it just to hard <3

  • I cried.

  • "where do you think we are?"

  • Bloogeyz you're idiot! You cut off the part when Ben said he'll have his camera with him till the day HE DIES

  • At what point did Ben stop being real and became a figment of Cox's imagination? The two day break?

  • @Patriots09ist when he says "20 minutes after you left he went into cardiac arrest* he ment ben thats what the main dude said

  • @halloweenfan92 You sure he wasn't talking about the old man?

  • Ben had said that he would stop taking pictures when he was dead. When it shows Ben after the cardiac arrest announcement, he doesn't have his camera anymore.

  • @behindthymask how did he die?

  • @trackboy17 he went into cardiac arrest

  • oh wait never mind now i get it

  • so...he was dead all this time?

  • @kittycatanime22

yes, when jd says someone died from a cardiac arrest, it was ben he was referring to, but we thought it wad the old man.

  • it is not a soap..its a comedy show..with sad moments....the guy/girl(probably girl) just got touched by the feeling of sadness this scene expresses

  • the chart jd handed cox at the beginning was bens death chart

  • You know a comedy show is good if it can make you laugh.

You know it's a great if it can make you cry.

  • It made me cry for god sake and I'm not an emotional person omg

  • wait the guy who died looks like the guy that was hanging around the hospital? or was dr.cox crazy?

  • @DarkSnP I think maybe Dr Cox still saw him because he didn't want to beleive he was really dead or wasn't ready to cope with his friends death yet but yes it was the same man that was around the hospital.

Suppose ppl just aren't ready to let go sometimes.

  • @RandomTrioOfCH ty i guess i should finish the whole series before stumbling around this stuff

  • @DarkSnP He didn't want to believe that his son was dead.So he just imagined he was still there. :(

  • @CaptMcswaggins ben is cox' daughter?

  • @EldinSjinzo What? When did I say that?

  • @CaptMcswaggins you said that cox didnt want to believe his son was dead XD oh woops i wrote daughter instead of son

  • @EldinSjinzo Lol, well I think he is o.o

  • @CaptMcswaggins Small correction, Ben isnt the son of dr. Cox, he's the brother of Jordan (his wife) and his best friend.

I personally think this is one of the strongest episodes of scrubs. Especialy because it catches you by surprice...

  • @brabbelbeest Thank you for clarifying that for me :p I love this episode as well, brought tears to my eyes, man. :/

  • What's the name of the song playing in the funeral scene?

  • @jugganaut35 Winter by Joshua Radin

  • this episode always brings a tear to my eye!
