  • Ok, followed your instructions made an image and restored it to a new drive. Stuck the new drive in my laptop but it won't boot. Any idea if I've done something wrong like missed the boot section out?

  • HI thanks for great video ..... I have one question ,, If i BAckup my c Drive in a dvd then how can i recover....

  • My MAin Point is that for recover whem my com. is not working then i have to insert my recover , and then when i have to insert my backup dvd

Does It Works In Win 7

  • Alright, lets say you create a full drive clone and you put it onto a USB HD, then the computer becomes useless, you then use the restore CD to boot from then restore it. Will it format the drive you're restoring?

  • Thank you very much sir.

  • OMG I cannot catch any BREAK. I successfully resized the partition to below the SSD's size (59 GB). Made the macrium system image of that new partition size. Successfully restored the image to the SSD drive BUT NOW I FOUND OUT HP Pavilion a706n DOES NOT BOOT FROM SSD sata Drives BUT THEY CAN BOOT FROM non SSD sata Drives. I'm so fed up with this. Plus I find out that Crucial SSD does not take refunds so I may have to eat this non functioning purchase. Going to bios update and then Give up.

  • I have now wasted 2 days trying to get the macrium backup to work. I am trying to restore the macrium image to a smaller SSD. Here's what I had to do. Re-size the partition using Gparted live CD. For a 29 Gig partition resize it only took about 40 Minutes. After the partition is resized Run macrium on the new smaller paritition and now you can restore the macrium image back without a problem.

  • I have wasted several hours by making the mistake of using macrium. IT WILL NOT RESTORE TO A SMALLER DRIVE EVEN IF MOST OF THE DRIVE IMAGE IS EMPTY. Not only that but it will screw up restored partitions so that other disk imaging software will use the total disk size (not the usual used disk size). In other words if you had a 100 GB drive but only 29 Gig used you cannot restore to anything less than 100 GB. AND if you restore to the 29 gig to 100+ GB drive if you try to image it will be 100GB

  • wtf man

but thanks but me well i dont under......

    lol

  • Excellent tutorial. In my case, works fine with my Dells and all USB/eSata ports. You're tutorials simplify and streamline it all for others and your efforts are appreciated. Thanks!

  • wonderful program, it just bloody hangs in the license screen. how useful!

  • @bally28 as if it hasn't done enough to piss me off, it won't even uninstall...frozen at remove screen!! haha just done a clean install before i put this program on..use at your own peril... thumbs DOWN.

  • cotojo1253, thank you for building this wonderful tutorial. It cannot get better than this.

  • can you tell me how i can make a boot cd? i tried making one but it only gave me the linux & the other bartpe option doesn't even work for vista. I didn't create the lixux cd because i am running windows..would a linux rescue cd work on windows vista?

  • Thank you for the useful vedio sir, I just have one questins, if I to recover an image from a CD that I just created using this software, then any software that is recently downloaded will be deleted ?

  • Would you suggest the upgrade?

  • Just so I understand, you absolutely must install the program to the computer of drive you want to image?

I'd like to use this program without having it my registry and drive, since I want to use the image and clone out several identical laptops. Is this possible?

  • very best program EVER...u don't need the paid version. its wonderful and super fast. it was a life saver in vista. for windows 7 haven't needed to restore yet.

  • so much help thank you sir!

  • Well Done Sir,

Very Detailed And In A Logical In Layout.

  • Those must be some very old hard drives, my backups take under 10 minutes, and my first backup image was 25GB file and my monthly backups are usually about 35-40 GB. I guess if I were backing up a huge disk size like 200GB that would take an hour or so. I didn't know you could restore the image within Windows, I always boot from the Recovery CD and follow the on screen instructions to restore to a backup image. Anyhow good tutorial and EXCELLENT PRODUCT!

  • This program is 100%%% the best backup program I've ever used, I only wish I knew about it years earlier, would have saved me many times from re-installing windows. Now if theres a problem like a virus or computer seems like its running slower, I just restore to my first image I created after installing widnows and the windows updates.

  • Thank you sir! This is an excellent software package.

  • @fodz0 - You're welcome. like this one for its simple operating methods and excellent backups :-)

  • hello sir, it might be a stupid question but will this work on windows 2000 pro, or will we need some software installations prior to Macrium Reflect?

  • @noumman - Macrium does not support Windows 2000, however, Paragon Drive Backup Express does :-)

  • Thanks!

  • @BigGhommie - You're welcome, good little program :-)

  • Great video.Easy to comprehend.Nice job.

  • @Nevigo - Thank you. I try to make them easy to follow so that more users can benefit - I was a beginner once too and know how frustrating it can be at times when learning something new. Simple and straightforward works :-)

  • @cotojo1253

I have a question for you, I have a 500GB drive with a 250GB partition so it's about 50/50 could I reinstall Windows on the first partition then clone it to second then if Windows if windows ever messes up I could wipe the first partition and use the back up restore windows but to the day I installed it?

  • @MrQarsim - Absolutely, it would work perfectly in that scenario and is one that I use as well as having a backup copy on external drive in case of drive failure :-)

  • @cotojo1253

Great, but you do realize that when I say partition I mean a partition of the drive the OS is on not a physically different partition/drive

  • @MrQarsim - I have a single main drive in 2 partitions, one partition has the OS, installed programs, updates etc, the second partition has a cloned image made using Macrium Reflect as backup and this is also stored externally on a usb drive in the event of drive failure. So yes this scenario works, the OS can be copied to the partition as backup and it's a good idea to create a new image monthly when everything has been updated again and then delete the old image :-

  • @cotojo1253

So if the OS partition fails I could use a Macrium boot CD to restore it?

I didn't see anything about the recovery

  • @MrQarsim - Yes you an. Simply ensure that your computer is set to boot from CD/DVD, insert the disk in the tray and reboot, it will then allow you to browse to the backup location :-)

  • Does this let you clone your HDD to a new internal HDD with OS and all, so that I can use my OS on the new HDD instead of the old one?

  • @GodLikeSkillz89 - yes it does, it creates a complete clone (ghost image) of your drive which can then be installed onto a new drive :-)

  • @The4buster - It will work on any machine so only one copy of the bootable disc needed :-)

  • I'm just curious, does this backup every registry tweak, service settings, drivers, group policy settings, startup program settings and any other optimisation tweaks on xp?

The programs dont really matter since I would likely need to update them anyway, like firefox, antivirus programs, media players etc. It would be very convenient if I didn't need to spend a couple of days optimising the OS for my system on every fresh install.

  • @ shodanbot - Yes it does - it creates an image of your OS with all tweaks, applications, files, folders, and everything that you have stored on the drive that you create an image of - at the end of each month I create a new image with all apps updated, system cleaned, defragged etc, so it is always a clean up-to-date image :-)

  • Well now, that is very convenient! Thanks, it will probably save me a few hours of work anytime I wanted to give it a clean & optimised install if something goes wrong. :)

Do you turn off the system restore service when using this program, since with this, it wouldn't really be needed? Sorry for all the questions.

  • @shodanbot - I don't use system restore at all as malware can reside in the restore points. Ss I rely on macrium and clean images as I import malware regularly and should I get a problem I simply restore the last image created :-)

  • I've rarely had any use for it myself, I'm 'usually' very careful when I install or uninstall any drivers or fiddle with regedit, exporting the list is the best safety measure anyway and there is safe mode incase I really bollocks things up. Always seen it as a (resource gobbling) safety net though.

I'll turn it off on your advice though and use reflect as suggested, I've seen some of your other vids and you use an alot of the good software that I use myself so, I've subbed you. :)

  • @shodanbot - Turning off Sys Restore saves space and if you have images created then the system can be restored intact prior to any problems :-)

  • Oh it's alright, I've already used reflect a few days ago to create an image, it actually created it in less than 3 mins which is nice and verified it just to be sure, no problems, haven't gotten around to a making the rescue cd yet, too bloody lazy.

  • @ shodanbot - make sure that you create the rescue cd, you never know when you will need it and it only takes a few moments :-)

  • hi i want an answer quick. do u know if this works like xxclone? i want to upgrade my hdd but have windows 7 which is appraently not compatible. so does it create an exact clone?

  • @biplav91 - It creates an identical clone of the system so it can all be transferred from one drive to another :-)

  • i bought a new 10,000 300 gig raptor drive. i want to clone my current c drive. EVERYTHING onto the new drive, pull the old c drive out and use the new one for my c drive. the new c drive is just a few mb smaller than the original c drive. how do i do this?

  • @dinodude64 - Use Macrium to create an image, preferably on an installed partition or external drive, install the new drive and restore the image to the new drive, everything will be copied over as it was :-)

  • verify i mean... sorry

  • what's validating of the image for???

  • @john240881111 - validating the image simply verifies that it is a clean and good copy :-)

  • what is the use of verify?

  • To recheck image if it's written properly. It's just extra security.

  • @ babyfaceassassin21 - To ensure that it is a clean copy that can be reloaded if necessary - a corrupt copy won't :-)

  • will it backup everything including OS?? is this like norton disk imaging?? whats the difference?

  • @ babyfaceassassin21 - The difference is it's free - it creates a complete ghost image of your OS and installed programs, files, folders etc :-)

  • I cleaned my system before i made an image...

    but forgot to defrag..

    is it really important?

  • @ kezzielegs - Only if the system is badly defragmented, but if you verified the image and it came back as good then you will be fine :-)

  • I am going to verify he image today..

i also have Acronis TI9 although i haven't used it for a while...

and have plenty of external space 1tb for backing up all important stuff using Karen's Replicator...

and two 500gb drives permanently connected to my pc for storage (also back these up to the 1tb)

Is it worth using ATI & MR to image my C drive?

just in case one or the other fails if i have to restore?

    Thx

  • @ kezzielegs - Yes it would be worth using both ATI and MR, so if one should fail for whatever reason you then have the other to fall back on :-)

  • Thx..

    despite forgetting to defrag

    the image was verified good.

  • @ kezzielegs - good to hear it :-)

  • I have a Vista PC with 100GB Hard Drive. I have recently purchased a 320GB External Hard Drive. I am clear on taking apart and replacing the hard drives.

So if I create a backup/ clone of my 100GB hard drive onto my 320GB everything would be working as normal straight away after a place the 320GB in my PC?

  • @elliot438bcfc - Yes it will, it's a straight transfer of a ghost image from one drive to another :-)

  • @cotojo1253 do you have a video post that shows how to perform a ghost image from one drive to the other including the operating system (EVERYTHING), so that when you turn the computer on, everything is in the new drive?

  • @ banwaitebutuoy - currently nio, but I will have in the future. Also check out my site for easus partition manager PRO - FREE until the end of January - copy, clone, resize rename...just about everything you need in app :-)

  • Hi I want to transfer my os from my 60 gig hardrive to my new hardrive will this help me do that.

  • boogynights - yes it will do. Create the image from your old drive and simply select your new drive as the destination when restoring the image :-)

  • does this program format (delete the previsious files from the partition like a new laptop without recovery dvd whos restoring from the hard drive)

    or just rewrites them?

  • hspencer100 - It does not format the partitions unless you specifically request it. If you have a partitioned drive you can create an image of the main partition to the secondary partition, it will be compressed and should you create a new image then delete the old image :-)

  • ok thx for answering.

i have only one partition (i saved the recovery image to an external hard drive), how can you set the program to format the partition before instaling?

  • hspencer100 - As you only have one partition you need to wipe the drive with active killdisk ensure that your BIOS are set to boot from CD and USB is enabled, then insert the boot CD for macrium and browse to your external drive to reload the image. You can also completely overwrite the partition with the image by booting from the Macrium Rescue Disk :-)

  • ok,

so you mean that when i chose to recover the image it formats the partition during the proces or its just over writes it?

    and

my usb is not working when i boot from linux cd (only with windows PE) but linux boots faster can you tell how to sett zhe usb to work (i tried bios but didnt foun anything about usb with linux cd)?

    thx

  • becouse the termen of "backup" it means to me that it only overwrites, but it will be better if i could set it to format and than restore (backup).

i restored once and it was so fast that i dont think it formated first and in recycle bin still had 2 songs wich i deleted 10 min before (i also formated with a windows cd before and the songs didnt exist in the recycle bin when i made the image)

  • hspencer100 - 'Backup' creates an image of your drive as it is at that specific moment in time, so if you have files in the recycle bin they will be copied too. Also verify the backup to ensure that it is a good image, then it is ready to restore which will overwrite ALL existing data :o)

  • Just did a 128GB disk image in 38:50 to a SATA External HD.

  • BigGeekDaddy - Good time and great program to do it with :-)

  • wow, this looks very useful

  • deadly1010P - It is useful, I use this to create images of 3 machines and 12 partitions, works like dream :-)

  • Cotojo1253 - This program may come in handy, just incase I do get infected. Thanks for the video and information.

    ^_^

  • kingorgg - You're welcome.

It's a nice and easy to use program, plus its free :-)
