This was a live radio recording from 1944 from a show called 'The Bakers of America Salute to the Armed Forces" So for being a live recording, one take only, it's pretty marvelous. I had this on an album as a teen called 'The Wit and Wonder of Judy Garland" and I loved it then-I hear it now and it's even more hauntingly beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Judy. Such a deep person. Her life was packed with heartache, yet (or rather "because of which") she connected with her audience like no one else has, or ever will. A lady of true talent; she had a fantastic voice and perfect pitch, wit, charm, humor, and a way of reaching people that made them feel loved. As Lucille Ball said "I'm not funny; my script writer's funny. You want a funny woman and I'll show you Judy Garland."
Thanks very much. Never heard this version before. I quite like it, though I must confess my favorite, for what's it's worth, remains that of Dick Haymes and Helen Forrest. I think this song benefits from a male-female combination. But thanks again.
....Jo Stafford owns this song, but the bombastic giant voice of Judy goes on forever.......in the view of MGM, Billboard and other Hollywood critics, Judy was the greatest performer in the history of show business.......
Long ago and far away, I dreamed a dream one day And now that dream is here beside me Long the skies were overcast but now the clouds have passed You're here at last Chills run up and down my spine, Aladdin's lamp is mine The dream I dreamed was not denied me Just one look and then I knew That all I longed for long ago was you Chills run up and down my spine, Aladdin's lamp is mine The dream I dreamed was not denied me Just one look and then I knew That all I longed for long ago was you
I've heard Judy sing this before, but never this version - completely new to me!!! It's a lot more subtle, very warm and moody. In short, quite lovely. :)
I got chills at 1:47 when she puts that little crack in her voice .. LOVE it.
Thank you for sharing this... what a beautiful soul and profound talent. This is so passionate & personal. No one else but Judy!
I also love Jo Stafford's version; hers is like the music of the spheres - almost detached, but still moving. But it is possible to love more than one artist thank god!
thankyou so much for uploading, i never knew she covered this song. i love rita hayworth and gene kelly dancing to it in cover girl. such a magical and haunting song!

Incredible! And, she holds that last note, in full voice & full vibrato & on key, for 11 seconds!! Easy? TRY IT!!

Not as good as Jo Stafford's rendition~ this is just too slow. Judy sang other songs much better.

I prefer the Jo Stafford version a bit more, but this is good. Judy,Jo,Peggy Lee were great. I can't forget Jaye P Mogan who still lives

let's say a word of appreciation for the orchestration, so characteristic of the era.

Who has these qualities now ? LIZA, but as her own self different from Mama Judy. It's easy to love both.

Wow, i've never heard this before. Just wonderful, of course. Thankyou.
We love you Judy and we do not want your name dragged through the dirt with this film they are planning.
Judy was and is a huge natural talent and we want to remeber ONLY this.
