This was a "love on first sight"...This song sounds so undescribably beautyful. It is like "pure sunshine made out of music"...Hard to exsplain. But I'll love this song to the end of my life. For sure.
I understand your sentiments.. that's why i chose the song. If you haven't yet, you should check out her other music. . .. thanks for stopping by.. and sharing.
My daughter came for a visit from England and brought me Beth Orton's CD - and I've been in love ever since, what beautiful music, she hits every nerve, every emotion and sings what I feel inside my heart. Thanks for sharing.
Secrets in her hair.. whispers are not hers to share & Sweetest Decline may also be.....? there hv alwys bn rumrs..she is bi..gay.....& so what..... we often reaact to great losses in differnt ways...in our anger..confusion & grief....later we may regret.....but only she knows how hard her losses were for her......Love You Beth..
Snowflake on tounge & butterflies are childhood memories & life's small blessings. Butterflies also represent change, Sun equals great love , great hope and longing. Her Sweetest decline are her great losses, Sun represent hope and love. She's deep as a well represent her growing up to soon with great adn early losses in her life. "Can't pin this butterfly down", sometimes children with great losses do not bond & trust as easily.
Her mum washed her hair when she was a child and would sing to her. Father left her mum when she ws 11 died shortly after. Her mum died when she ws 18. She travelled to Thailand lived with Buhddists Nuns. Life can change & be fleetingly gone like a snow flake on your tounge. Often refrences sun in her songs. Longs for her Mum & Dad & their love & nurturance
Have you ever heard such beauty in modern music? This is my all time favorite song of the nineties! Why more people don't know about her is beyond me. She is truly an artist above the rest.
I agree... yet another mystery, there are so many. But, what can we really expect from the "plastic", sheeple society that has been on the UPSOAR for so many years.. 'cuse my bit of cynicism. Seems like the thought of real individuality is lost in what people are told is "GREAT"... OH WELL.... thanks for the comment, and glad you enjoyed the video. Beth is a beauty in her musical expression...SO REFFRESHING... ahhhhh!
Youre right about society and the plastic nature of what is touted as GREAT or BEAUTIFUL. I laugh at them and their idea of what talent is. To this day, I still have not heard this song or any song of hers on the radio. If I had not been in Zia Records while it was playing, I doubt I would have ever had the joy of knowing her music. I remember it vividly, while looking for an album I was like, WHO THE HELL IS THAT!!! Simply the best female artist to come along since Enya (IMHO).
Her album Central Reservation(the one this song is on) got a lot of promotion on MTV2 when it first came out. Stolen Car was a buzz single for a month(or two, can't remember). She didn't get main-station billing, but bubblegum was still pretty popular at the time, and you can't really blame anyone for that. But people -did- recognize her. This song was HEAVILY played on many teen drama soundtracks at the time.
The world needs people like her..gives us hope. Almost makes us want to believe in something grand. Maybe even in ourselves? Maybe? If I did meet her I'd say, "Beth, there I was, standing head long in your stare, there I was, holding back your sweet and simple time. Like a short and simple rhyme, like a sparrow with a tired sigh. So.. anyway, there you were, dancing in my mind and falling to the ground, never been but always there, soft as the sweetest wine, well anyway... there you were...
this is great visual to this video. I had never heard of her before. Glad you put this up, I now have a new artist to discover. I will have to go buy one or two of her CD's.
When will you put up another one of you?
thanks again for posting this. your beautiful soul shines through again.

This reminds me of a song you would take your first date on to a restaurant somewhere in New York City some nice evening.

Good song, but it's pretty much influenced by "A vision of two saints" (Kathy Smith).
The piano, the strings and the melody sounds pretty much the same.

Another beautifully almost 'sculptured' video to go along with this beautiful song. I love these lyrics in particular:
'Another day draws away,
And my heart sinks with the sun.
Its like catching snow on my tongue.
Its like catching snow on my tongue.'
Thank you for introducing me to Beth Orton!!
