Boy would I ever love to ride on that train again! When I was a kid CP had 2 clases - the Canadian and the Dominion. These cars look exactly like the Dominion cars but the last car was probably one they used for dignitaries. Is there any way of getting on that train!??? IT's too expensive for me to take the Royal Canadian Pacific or whatever they call it.
@Kelscher Me and my familly took this train to lethbride from calgary and back. Funnest thing I have ever done. I hear it goes to banff allot to. When we went on it there was no deisel engine in it at all. And oh my god we went over this bride near lethbridge that was 310 feet high! It was the biggest viaduct in the world at one time. Most memorable experience of my life
That whistle would sound better if it was on a pull chord where it could be regulated instead of being on the air actuator. And if any body is wondering where the whistle came from i found out its off of a selkirk.
As I understand it, they run a diesel on the train because regulations require all trains to have at least two engines, so in case of a breakdown they won't be stuck. There are probably other reasons as well, but likely the diesel is just being towed. You don't hear any noise or see any smoke from the diesel.
why are some people like, racist againsed some deisels? sure there not as cool as steam but still. About the whistle, sorry guys, but the whistle is just like that now. WE NEED TO CONVINCE THEM TO MAKE IT BETTER! IF THIS DISASTER IS NOT CORRECTED I MIGHT JUST KILL SOMEONE!!!
2816 is equiped with 25 types of whistles, a pull cord and a push button(originally a squeeze button). The one you here from her most of the time is the push button, as they do not use the pull cord that much.
Man That whistle sounds terrible. You would think a Loco as good looking as this would Have a Better whistle. The ones on 2317 at steamtown, 2141 at kamloops, 1077 at fort steele, 6060 in alberta and 3716 at kettle valley sound way better then this. And it sounds so electronic since it just snaps on and off like that. Still it is a great loco.
If the water was high enough to effect the whistle, it is high enough to be picked up by the throttle valve, causing what we call a "Spill over" where water enters the cylinder. And since water can't compress it blows the cylinder covers right off. I fire on the 1077 at fort Steele and i have been yelled at many times for filling up too much water, and even then the whistle still sounded normal. But i could be wrong, u could have been in the cab and i dont know the set up on 2816.
I work for CPR and I believe the diesel is there such that it can power the consist through tunnels. The Steamer has more than enough power but because of it's huffing and puffing nature we don't want it to blast the soot off the sides and roof of the tunnels and get soot everywhere throughout the train - so the diesel pushes the steamer up through tunnels

Whistle's maybe a bit wet or boiler pressure down. It sounds fuller on other vids

Anything is better then the 6060!

The reason the whistle was that sick sounding is that she was carrying the water a little high

Also a back up for some of the stepper grades, through the Rogers and Kicking Horse. There are alot of times when the Geep is isolated.

Dang It! I hate when they put diesel power behind the steam locomotive :( Still Very nice video!!!

That diesel would never kick out as must power as the the steamer anyway. she's only pulling a few cars too.

Diesel's only there for the dynamic braking

yeah you do have a point there. but i still think it ruins the classic look of it. espessally if its not in heritage colours
