  • If you havin undead problems I feel bad for you son

    I've fought 99 monsters but a Lich ain't one

  • you play as an argonian... BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • They should remake this into a nintendo DS game

    Thumbs up if you agree!

  • One of the fun/weird things about this game was that the starter dungeon could house any number of nasties, including Ancient Liches or Vampire Ancients, which would generally one or two shot you. Reminded me a little of classic RPGs like Ultima where you could walk into a dungeon and end up fighting Balrogs. Fun times.

  • @MrTouchShriek You are actually incorrect. The Privateer's Hold has the same enemies in the same locations every time you play it.

  • @BebopMagnum7 Not true.

I rewent that dungeon about 28 times at one character. I had the same enemies the first 27 times, then the 28th and up was different for about 27 times, then it went back to normal.

I think it depends on a month/week/day cycle or something.

  • @Elrohof That's... really strange. I've never seen it happen. And I've played through way more than 27 times. Could be because of patches, I don't know. I'll have to look into it. For me it's always the usual rat-bat-imp-thief-bat etc etc.

  • I love how everything is already planned out, even when this game was first released. it's better than the games that make up stuff as they go along. The Elder Scrolls is a true gem.

  • I killed an Ancient Lich on my level 5 battlemage yesterday, felt manly.

  • @AnObeseAardvark thats cool.. ancient lich are serious business.

  • Can someone tell me how to setup the graphics for this game? I'm using dosbox, but this games graphics on my end look much worse. The pixels are messed up and look weird when walking around. I ran with 640* whatever, not sure if I am supossed to run in a higher resolution? I have Windows Vista and an 8600m gs graphics card. Thanks.

  • This and Morrowind are the two best Elder Scrolls games.

  • Sooo, that's where they took the Second Life teleport sound from o.o XD

  • I just tried this for the first time last night, and while I enjoyed up until then, the first time I got turned down by a racist shopkeeper because I was an Argonian I realized how great of a game it was.

  • Lol Dies-In-Mud

  • These games were pure pwnage. Other games that were also frigging nice were Might and Magic 6 and Might and magic 7!

Oh gosh, what happened to those ol' RPG's! :(

  • what does it mean when it says:

    "Huge Footprints cross your path?"

  • @0FaceMan0

haha, that was a BEAUTIFUL reference.

  • great game to play high as fuck

  • this game is why I love Darkfall so much lol

  • That was fast.

  • You got super lucky with the Lich being right by the entrance. Those things HURT if they hit you with spells; up close without Spell Reflect/Absorb you're almost guaranteed to die, and their physical attack does 70 to 100 points of damage a hit to boot. I love when these guys and their Ancient brothers KO themselves though.

  • lol this scorpion looks like facehugger XD

  • Ah! EAR-RAPE!

  • this game is seriously one of the best TES games of all

  • @ThePaul1011

It's also the most buggy TES

  • @lordzilu1584 lol its soo old. who cares about bugs in this game?

    its almost brilliant

  • lol dies-in-mud

  • dies-in-mud needs his own movie.

  • Wow... I want Daggerfall with a new next-gen engine.

  • @Ramizello youtube "DaggerXL"

  • Mrgrazzt and stiffeg mustve been bored because they commented so much, its so funny! I'm kinda the guy who gets really creeped out by anything with worse-than-n64 graphics. Hav NE of you ever seen how the ppl walk in TES3? its such a fail! I like Oblivion because it is the most realistic and pre-created TES game so far. I hate randomly generated areas, but randomly generated items are my fav bcuz u can get somthing really good in the beggining. But in oblivion you look fat when wearing armor...

  • well, the quests were quite repetitive. Go to this cave, kill this rat....go and kill this mummy, kill this lich, etc, etc..........Granted being a warebore was awesome,

  • I played this on my mac years ago. Great game altho not as good as Moblivion or Red Guard

  • @kronicred

    Redguard? Seriously? Okay.

  • wow, that was quick. Sometimes i need a whole hour to find my questtarget.

  • Man looks like they have more houses in this city then they do in all Oblivion or Morrowind lol

  • They should re master this and release this to xbox live arcade or something

  • @stiffeg

    No. For PC.

PC gamers made The Elder Scrolls famous. Give it to them first.

    Cunt.

  • If anyone is a cunt, you are. Old games are usually released on xbox live arcade, and usually never re-released on the pc. Get yourself educated. The pc already got the game, and there are graphics mods for it.

Besides real elder scrolls fans like me buy all the games, on both xbox and pc. And don't you go on with your Morrowind and Oblivion bullcrap like any other 12 year old does. A real fan plays the whole series without whining. So grow up!

  • @stiffeg

    ROFL!

I wasn't aware I needed to 'grow up' just because I think Daggerfall is superior.

May I ask, what is the question of buying two copies of every game? As you say, you own them on both xbox and PC. Pick one, fat cunt.

And fyi, Arena and Daggerfall were released for free on the Bethesda website. So your 'usually never re-released on PC' is blown out of the water, merely due to the fact that two of the four ES games have been.

    (CONTINUED)

  • I guess you don't like the elder scrolls at all, the xbox version differs from the pc version in terms of experience. I afford buying two separate copies of each game in which you don't.

I don't know how old you are but you are definitely too your to understand the glory of the elder scrolls series, go play your nintendo shit as all your other fellow 12 year old friends. (continued)

  • @stiffeg

I am an Elder Scrolls fan, but your logic is fucking idiotic. I'm meant to buy another game which is pretty much the same to be considered a true fan?

Take your elitist bullshit and spew it at someone who cares. Perhaps another nerd. Because the average video game player isn't going to give a FUCK whether you own both.

I'm not the son of lawyer. I don't have a two-million-dollar trust fund. So unlike you, I don't buy everything under the sun.

  • @stiffeg

Yeah, I don't 'understand' it just because I don't agree with you. Once again, you're the biggest dumb fuck I've ever had the displeasure of meeting.

    Die in a fire.

  • Why not, loads of peole burn their bodies when they die, unlike necrophiliacs like you. Once again, you're the most saddest piece of shit I've ever had the displeasure of meeting.

  • @stiffeg

Most saddest piece of shit you've ever had the displeasure of meeting?

I believe you could drop the 'most' to make that sentence correct, grammatically speaking.

Who is uneducated? It's YOU, euro cunt. LOL!

Learn some English, you forest dwelling Druid.

  • at least druids are smart, and knows his whereabouts, you could become one too, it's not that different what you already are right now, the difference is just that you switch your cardboard box for a bush or something

  • @stiffeg

Says the cunt from China. LOL

Go suck on a dim sim, third world samurai.

  • NEVER!!! Diss Druids again.... understand? My band's name is Druids' Circle.. so you show respect!!!! lol, jk. but don't bag the Druids

  • @KheftiuAsarButchiu

hahahaa got it pal. Yeah, the Druids were cool and all...except they got owned by the Roman Empire. :P

  • Haha... funny you to say that.. that's what my band's lyrics is about actually haha.. Aww but the Roman's got owned by the Germans in Teutoberg Forest haha.

  • @KheftiuAsarButchiu

    hahahaha this is true :D

  • @stiffeg

Oh, wait. The term re-release is broader than your feeble mind thinks, is it not?

Morrowind has been released on multiple platinum packages. Collector's edition, BigByte, The Essential Collection. As will Oblivion be when it's older.

So much for 'usually never re-released on the pc'. Get yourself educated.

    Cunt. Cunt. Cunt.

  • Wait! I checked your profile, you are not 12 year old?? OMG I have been arguing with a 30 year old virgin over a 13 year old game. You might wanna get a life, and learn some manners, only uneducated pricks like you that never even taken a college or university degree end up like you. (continue)

  • @stiffeg

Yep, because you're in such a moral state to judge my psyche and how I've 'ended up'.

Uneducated? You're a fucking swede, go eat some chocolate, you eurotrash cunt, LOL.

  • Re-mastering and releasing on the xbox 360, ps3. IS what developers have done, MANY have done. And if shitheads like you are going to ruin that, I suggest you go and fuck yourself with your other homo friends. I think bethesda is more into making money and wouldn't mind releasing it for the FIRST time on console and spreading the franchise

  • @stiffeg

Yep, once again you prove you're too simple to play a computer game. What's the matter? Can't install it without breaking something? Shit yourself at the sight of a keyboard and mouse?

    I think so!

Rage on, you Swede. NEWS FLASH: You're a Swede, you're white. You will never be an asian. Stop fantasizing over Chinese symbols in your avatar, LOL!

    Fucking deadbeat chocolate inventing cunt.

  • I am asian, I am a chinese immigrant, so who is the dumb fuck now?

And besides just because I afford BOTH the PC and XBOX, and do at least try the console version, and AFFORD it. It doesn't mean that I don't use computers, actually I am using a computer right now. Maybe if you got a job you would enjoy these luxuries as I do.

  • @stiffeg

I have a job, but once again, I don't need to buy a game which is virtually the same. I'm not a die hard geek like you are.

And yeah, I'm totally a dumb fuck for not knowing who you are behind your computer. Like...TOTAALLLYYY! Get a grip, would ya?

I work. I save my money. I don't blow it on shit that I already have. You're just a rich cunt who's parents paid for him to go to Europe. :)

  • 336 gold for a Lich?!

  • jeez i just love how you swing your weapon by moving the mouse. i love this game, almost (and didnt) Gave it up for morrowind and finnaly oblivion.

  • i fuciing gave up trying to run this piece of shit, followed that dosbox guide, everything was going well untill it said that i had wrongt disc inserted...

  • Hey genius, search 'Daggerfall XP'. It's a cracked version that runs on modern OS.

Fucking dumb crackajak piece of SHIT, KILL YOURSELF!

  • i guess someone didnt get their medication today

  • That'd be right. -Deepthroats your cock. Eyes water as he gags on your smelly, gangrenous rod. Coughs and gags, covering your balls in hot sick. Proceeds to lick the vomit off your hairy nuts with love and enthusiasm-

    YOOAAHHH YOOOAAAAHHH!

  • holy shit dude, u really did forget to take your medicine

  • Hahahaha yeah man. I thought that one would scream 'CRAZY'. :D

  • u mad

  • Go to the Bethsoft forum and check out the help there. You have to put a little work into getting Daggerfall working, but it's worth it!

Try it again and this time just mount c c:\ instead of c c:\Dagger

  • How come the Lich didn't do anything?

Usually when I get close to them, they just cause some sort of invisible explosion (the sound of an explosion, but no visible fire) and I either die instantly or have almost no health left. Same with Vampire Ancients.

Most normal monsters are barely even able to damage me.

  • I now finished Daggerfall a while ago, and this is my experience:

Apparently this problem of instant-death-by-lich goes away as you level up, and spell protection helps a lot earlier - it apparently doesn't merely protect you _when_ you get hit, but also makes the Liches and Vampire Ancients not bother to use their magic attacks as often.

I've also noticed that the effect seems to be AOE, because they somtimes suicide on their own explosion if I was very close, even without protection.

  • I'm having alot of trouble getting into this game. I really want to try playing it more thoroughly, as I grealy enjoyed Morrowind, but the game seems almost unplayable with all the bugs I've encountered, namely with the quests. Ugh.

  • Yeah, the game was conceived, programmed and released less than a year after the original Elder Scrolls came out. It's gonna have a few bugs if you hurry development to that extent =P

  • uh, no...

    Arena was released in 94.

    Daggerfall was release in 96.

  • My mistake. But Daggerfall was still rushed to meet it's deadline and was released in a semi-unfinished state.

  • Fair enough.

  • And what provinces do you start in for Arena and Daggerfall?

  • In Arena you can go to any province in the whole of Tamriel, though most of the cities are randomly generated, so not much detail. In Daggerfall you start in the Illiac Bay region(The area around the sea between high rock and hammerfell). In Daggerfall you can go to almost all the parts of high rock, including the wrothgarian mountains and the orsinium area, and the northern and upper middle parts of hammerfell.

  • yeah i soon figured out where Daggerfall was but thanks! it seems that you can go in a lot more places on the first two TES.

  • Hey! I tried downloading Arena and im stuck on the DOSBox part with the C: command...any help please?

  • Try getting a GUI front end like D.O.G.or |D-Fend Reloaded (just google them. They allow for quick and easy tweaking without all those DOS commands that are so easy to get wrong! PM me if you want with more details of your problem

  • 2:22 ...I can see you just considering whether or not to teleport. :)

  • Personally I love every and each one of the Elder scrolls games, and have played them all. Daggerfall improved on arena a great deal, it deserves more recognition than it has gotten.

  • Wait, I saw when you create a character, you can choose where he comes from.

So are you travelling in DaggerFall?

    Skyrim? Elsweyr?

  • What you saw was the race selection screen.

  • I know but I am talking about the damn place you are to in.

  • love the fact you took the time to show your stats at the end! That will entice people to try this game more than the rest of the video, I think! :) 5/5!!

  • "This lock has nothing to fear from you.."!!

    Thanks for the memories!

  • Real time strategy role playing game.

In other words, not a lot. Essentially Dawn of War 2.

  • Which made Dawn of War 2 suck - and why it has only sold just over half of what the original Dawn of War sold! What I hate about the media is the fact that in an earlier game they love a feature, and then in a new game, when that feature is dropped, they point out how terrible that old feature was! Talk about butt licking the industry! I blame the media for the dumbing down of games, because they have the power, but have never stood up to the publishers!

  • Is this true (from Lora's reviews):

"...each new town has shops and houses randomly arranged in a different order around its random streets, but no events, denizens, or items of interest. Every dungeon has a randomly generated 3D maze..."

  • Sadly, this is true. However, it is actually possible to walk from one town to another unlike in Arena. That sucked so much.

    However, it takes forever!

  • after oblivion and morrowind i want try it on my old laptop. Yes i heard some of that reviews, i have a magasine from 1997.01, which only give 65% to Daggerfall, but still i want try it :)

  • Hmmm, maybe don't try Oblivion on a laptop!

  • I alredy played oblivion on my pc, i writed i try Daggerfall on my old laptop, it is only an old pentium 1 compaq armada :).

  • Ah, OK. Sorry! I thought you meant you wanted to try it on your laptop once you'd tried MW and OB on that laptop.

    :-)

  • I love old RTSRPG games. Does anyone know if this will play on newer computers?

  • Yes, it certainly will if you download the WIndows XP installer of of fileplanet. Or use DOSbox, a popular DOS emulator.

BTW, Daggerfall is just an RPG, not an RTSRPG.

  • Hey is there XP installer for Arena? Because DOS box int working with my vista wery well.

  • No. Are you using a DOSbox beta? Make sure you aren't. It works fine on my vista when I up the cycles (look it up yourself, I forgot how to do it. It's something like ALT+F11.)

  • what do u mean? i just got it today, arena isnt really that great of a game, may as well save up for a card for oblivion, i already have it. but arena works fine on DOS box with vista home premium for me. i mean LOOK AT THOSE GRAPHICS!!!!! :P

  • graphics don't make a game...

  • very true you can actually make oblivion look like these games and i found it actually to be funner but the lighting effects did make dark areas better

  • @holymarkie Exactly, despite the monsters looking ridiculous. That Lich managed to scare the livin' shit out of me everytime I saw it.

  • @holymarkie exactly, but if done well, graphics can add to a game.

  • @holymarkie eccept games that are made just for graphics such as crysis

  • @holymarkie i agree good gameplay and a good storyline make it

  • @MetallicPower45 true, but you gotta admit, graphics may not make a game, but they are a big part, and the gameplay can actually be affected if you can't see shit of what's going on

the problem is, graphics are given too much spotlight nowadays

  • @Minority119 alot of younger gamers dont play games like this only cause the graphics and its retarded

  • @MetallicPower45 yeah well, that's not the developers fault

    that's straight up retardation

  • @Minority119 i know its not the deveolpers fault im just saying kids today dont know what makes a game

  • @MetallicPower45 Seeing as those kids are in the majority whatever they say goes. And it's a sad fact, but what makes a game for them isn't what we know and enjoy, I myself am part of the "COD" generation (Teens) but I for one enjoy classic games much more than the games put out today, each generation comes with various changes, games evolve just like music does, but to me the atmosphere of a game is important, and games today lack the exciting atmosphere games like Arena & Daggerfall give.

  • It will but it is VERY (and i mean very) difficult to get it working.

I HIGHLY recommend getting Dosbox (A dos emulator) to use it. Since if you play it on Xp or Vista it will be IMMENSELY buggy (crash all the time, freeze constantly. Enemies will sometimes not die etc). However getting it to work on Dosbox requires a lot of commitment to read tutorials and online instructions.

It takes a lot of patience to get Daggerfall to finally work on xp or vista. I highly recommend reading a tutorial

  • Yes, it will run perfectly fine in DOSBox. Set cycles to MAX for optimal performance.

    The same goes for Arena.

Without it? Don't even try. Running just about any DOS game directly in Windows NT/2000/XP/newer is just idiocy. It might run with VDMSound but will be flaky at best. If you have a 64-bit Windows (and you SHOULD), then you won't be able to make it run directly at all.

So _never_ run a DOS game in Windows without DOSBox.

  • I run Tetripz just fine using XP's DOS emulation and VDMsound. Runs fucking perfect compared to DOSBox.

  • What has Tetripz got to do with this video?

  • I used to hate the monsters' screams. It fooled me into thinking there were dozens of ennemies until I realized that it was just poor coding that made one little fucker make the damn same noise continuously.

  • hey ummm i know most of you wont respond to this but how do you use the map in arena whenever i use it its some small map that only shows the area around me so could anyone please help me

  • Left click the map to see the local area around you. Right click it to see the entire country so you can choose a location to fast travel to.

  • All of Tamriel is in this game !

  • no, illiac bay only

  • I laughted at ya name, Dies-In-Mud

  • i think the graphics are rather good maybe not comparable by todays standards but still bretty good and the plot, design and gameplay still kicks oblivions arse

  • lol I dunno, personally I love df's soundtrack, and I still find a lot of the monster shouts rather effective (the vampire shout still gives me the chills). Also, because the graphics are so simplistic, imagination kicks in and fills out a lot of the details(at least for me). For me DF fully demonstrates the main principles of the uncanny valley in action.

  • Idk what the elder scrolls makers were thinking lol. Because in Arena, they look like snake lizerds, In two they look like lizerds, then in 3 they look like friggen dinosaurs at times... then in 4 it's back to lizerds :/ Lol. MAN I WISH I COULD FIND THIS GAME FOR A LEGAL DOWNLOAD!!!!!

  • It's basically abandonware now, I wouldn't have any qualms about downloading it if need be.

Actually, Bethesda cannot legally resell Daggerfall since it used unlicensed Middleware in its code. By pirating it, you evade being an accessory in copyright infringement committed by Bethsoft. (?)

Anyway, if you can't find it on eBay, just download it.

  • Magic Immunity, Spell Absorption, Rapid Healing. Omg, someone is used to be a powergamer here. :P

  • Argonian ?! I want this game.

  • Best idea ever.

Have the whole Elder Scroll World, fully detailed. Make it huge like this is. Make it singleplayer mostly, but have an "arena" like Oblivion where you can battle other people in your level group.

Man that would be over 1000 hours easily.

  • Daggerfall seems to be a nice, ol'game! and i really like the Elder scrolls!

  • Loved That Quest!

  • Great vid... it brings back some memories :)

Did they ever patch this game? It was amazing and I spent a lot of time messing with it, but all the bugs made me want to stab someone.

  • Nice video!

  • argonians look really differnt from oblivion

  • and morrowind!

  • yeah in morrowind they had giant wide spread feet

  • Well met I Salute you! That lich went down like nothing and your only lvl 6?? The game is in the mail right now for me. I hope it isnt as easy as Dies in Mud Makes it to be hehe

  • Bah, Lich does magic damage and he got himself an imunity to magic advantage. Then to help him level faster he put on critical weakness to paralysis and poison disadvantages - both of those attacks are magic based - which can't hurt him since he's immune to magic. It's a character from a cookbook, no real roleplaying here...

  • Woo! Power-gaming for the win!

  • Does anybody know where i can get this game, its amazing that this game was made in the 90's, i wish oblivion was like this, but with good graphics of course

if anyone can give me a clue how to get the game, like a torrent, plz tell me

  • Just go to mininova[DOT]org and sreach for Daggerfall. Or you could buy it for really with Ebay.

  • so if you wanted to, could you cross the entire continent on foot?

  • Yes, but it takes two weeks (real time) to cross it.

  • Wow that game is HUGE!

  • I've just started DF recently, and tbh haven't a clue what I should be doing. I have joined the fighters guild and thats about it. Still, I'm sure I'll learn.

  • Its just fun going around and leveling up and finding cool items I guess. I never did a single quest and I had lots of fun. Oh I bought houses and stashed my loot and bought a ship and stuff =]

  • never been able to find creatures that quickly myself, there always in the deepest dungeon or in the tallest room and a pain in the a** to find

  • Woops, I meant to rate your comment up, did so down instead :(

  • does this game work on vista??plz tell me

  • Yes, I have played it on Vista and it run smoothly.

  • "plz tell me" Just ask your question, if someone knows the answer they'll tell you.

  • "wats tht armer an shword plz tell me wher to get it!! reply on my page plz!!!"

I swear it's like one retarded kid with a shitload of accounts that goes around asking that same question on every role-playing game video.

  • No, it's a retarded kid with a shitload of accounts that goes around asking questions on every fucking video.

  • If you ask me I think they should put the lead designer of Daggerfall on the next in Elderscrolls series, ever since Daggerfall was released they've been dumbing down everything. Morrowind was detailed and well balanced, it was a good game, but in my opinion not as good as Daggerfall. Oblivion was just beautifull, but the gameplay and replay value is zero to none, if you dont mod it heavily of course, then it becomes quite enjoyable, for some time.

  • Exactly.

I hated Oblivion when I first got it, because I loved Morrowind so much.

Then I modded the hell out of Oblivion, like seventy mods, and now I like it considerably more.

  • they need to make oblivion with this many places

  • Daggerfall was , undeniably a great game, and a leap forward for RPGs and 3D games alike, but the graphics are repulsive and the music makes one homocidal. If you stand against a wall the pixels are half the size of your screen. Huge gameworld, but full of bugs and stutters. which is why its stupid for people to be like "Daggerfall sux!!1! morrowing and oblivon is way bettur!" , or "Daggerfall is ownz the other elderscrolls!!".. because it doesn't do either.

  • ... ok?

  • Daggerfall gave me nightmares because of all the technical problems I ran into which literally got to the point where the game became unplayable.

  • The graphics are rupulsive because of the time period in which the game was written, and as for the bugs, there are ways of fixing them yourself. There are so few intelligent people on Youtube today, and I am pleased to have met one who can post a relevant comment without "bashing" on the game and keeping a neutral standpoint in perspective.

  • wow, the stats and stuff are better in this game...

Its funny how it went from 4 skill categories to three to two.

That many skills makes for lot's of customization...

I think I like Morowind's the best though. Just enough to make a unique character, not so many that it's confusing.

  • yeah, they've been dumbing it down every game. Morrowind has a nice balance i think, but tbh i'd rather play Oblivion. Much nicer to look at.

  • HE BAReley tried to kill u..

  • Wow. I never played or seen DaggerFall before. For the time, it looks fantastic!

  • The Lich isn't so hard... Ancient Lich is worse.

  • Oh and it was cool when you showed your stats. I hate when ppl dont cuz i like to see how good they are.

  • Looks really fun for some reason...So will it not play on XP? Cuz could probably get it off ebay.

  • on XP you can play it with DOSbox emulator

  • plz bethesda remake this damn game

  • Damn... that was TES:II graphics? The music reminds of Runescape... Nah... nah.

Well it was old I guess, wouldnt expect CoV/CoH/WoW graphics at that time...

  • i tried to load this game up again the other day, is there a patch for it cause i couldnt even get it to install on XP

  • i got mine to install on xp but the screen is cut in half!!

  • This really makes me mad.

You're likely wondering why. (or you don't care)

Lets put it this way: duke nukem, quake, hexen, heretic, and doom don't do anything good for small, impressionable children.

I dearly love TES, but unless someone makes some sort of unpixelated mod, I could never play it.

  • are you saying you need to play oblivion graphics because you're a small impressionable child? that makes sense. if you were actually mature and knew about role playing games you would find this one to be the best game in the series, along with morrowind

  • Exactly.

  • amen to that
