@JVDnews there are more than 1 version on the androot.. the one u are using probably isn't compatible.. if androot doesn't work there is also Z4 root, and Visionary root that u can try as well

@TheMW2xquickscoper It worked perfectly until I got the update for 2.2. It appears that Universal Androot doesn't work at all with froyo. too bad, because the native wifi tether in 2.2 is much slower than Wifi Tether that requires root access.

@akthm11 oh... Chances of breaking pretty low. This is very simple....and as for it working on archos 5, I have no idea. I know the archos 101, 70, etc can be temp rooted. The 5, I'm not positive on. Sorry

@TauntingDK18 there may not be a 1 click root for the moment.... but u can try using a different version of the app

Universal androot is the only app you need, when you run it, it will say ur rooted.. If you look in your app drawer you'll see it added the super user permissions icon. That's all you need.

I have a mytouch 3.5mm and it worked with no problem at all I tried the one from the market 1st and said i was rooted but nothing worked then this worked great dont no if its both of them together but gave me Hsdpa network which is really fast with custom rom app cyanogen 6.1.0 best root ever and I was wondering where that app went now I know I have to download it again

i went online using my my touch slide runinng 2.1 and downloaded both 1.6.1 version for the androot and the 205 wifi tether when i tried opening the root it said it dosent have any application that can be found to open this file.. i tried downloading it more than once and i get the same result.. is there something that iam doing wrong? please help it would be greatly appreciated tech deeva thanks

1. on the xda.developers site I went to the link that says "official releases here"

2. I went to Universal Androot 1.6.2 beta 5... Select "more"

3. At the bottom, select the APK link

4. Once finished downloaded, select the file to install

5. Select Open, Let the app root your phone.

6. Go back to browser and Google "Wifi Tether"

7. Select the link for Android wifi tether

8. Download Wireless Tether for Root Users 2.0.5-pre8

9. Install and enjoy

Omg thanks. I wonder will this work for my Vibrant. I always wanted to root, but my concerts we're (1: Bricking my phone, 2: voiding the warranty, 3: if I have the option to unroot it back to regular settings if I choose to). Now, rooting is legal, but you still have those concerns. This seems like a perfect solution for me. Thanks for the vid.

I tried it but it doesn't work for the EVO4. Do you know when it will be available. This is the only way i will root my phone. I'm a little to nervous to do it the other ways.

@romiaharmstrong as far as I know in the case of the Evo 4G, Universal Androot doesn't work for it. Only Simple Root and Unevoked one-click roots, which is a full root, works on ur device.
