  • Thanks to Jerny13512 for the kind words about Deen's drum sounds!! I tuned that kit (and his others) for 7 years!

  • @drumplanet You are a god then! Deen's kit has been my favourite drum sounds since he started with Journey. Do you know anything about the micing used? If so, PM me

  • He has the best all around drum tone I have ever heard. Thunderous kick drums, deep resonating racks and floor toms and a loud cracking snare. I hope I get the chance to see them in concert some day!

  • Who's playing drums on this song?

  • @bamatommy Never mind. :)

  • @bamatommy

    Of course, DEEN CASTRONOVO himself.

  • Where in Boca was this, I'm from there.

  • Deen's good, but he's a Perry wanna be. His voice couldn't handle night in and night out of touring. Soon Arnel's vocals will not be what they are, it happened to Perry and Augeri. There's no way a vocalist can sing falsetto night after night year after year without doing some damage to their vocal cords believe me I know. If it weren't for Perry, what songs would the band be performing? Nuff said.

  • @14779steve ....Shut up already, Perry isn't coming back.

  • deen is probably the best singer journey ever had after Augeri.

unfortunately i never liked Steve Perry's voice and Pineda is quite annoying sings without a soul.

  • I saw them in Switzerland in 2007 and he sang's many song's of the Journey included this song and Still they ride and Faithfully....great voice. In February i'll finaly see the show of the singer Steve Augeri in Sao Paulo l....i love Journey band..

  • They ought to rehire Augeri and have him, Arnel, and Deen trade off on vocals. That way no one blows out their pipes. Seriously, no one can sing Journey all night all the time, not even Steve Perry (anymore). Male countertenor singing is so physically demanding that a man in his twenties can expect to do it for maybe ten-twelve years. If you've heard Arnel lately, his pipes are starting to go south a bit.

  • @tdelamont Arnel has been singing his ass off without respite. Make hay while the sun shines....

  • I seen Journey with Arnie and Deen BOTH singing They was Awesome feel like I am betraying Steve Perry by saying this but Deen is AWESOME I had Goose bumps closed my eyes and it was like Steve was there!! Arnie sounded like younger Steve Perry... Just saying....

  • I will say that as far as the drumming goes, Steve Smith's interpretation is a bit more techincal, but Deen does manage to keep his own here.

  • I don´t care who sang what way back and when :) This sounds great!!! Fuck!! This is so awesome!!!

  • I don´t care who sang what way back and when :) This sounds great!!!

  • WOW!!!!

  • Arnel can sing but I can't accept him as the lead for Journey. I'll take Deen over him but it's just not the same w/o SP. I don't care how many times Neal talks about being impressed with Arnel on YouTube, or Mr. Keyboard (sorry-forgot his name)tells how Arnel caused him goosebumps. JUST NOT THE SAME, JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.... the journey in music leads to Steve Perry!

  • @D7J7W7 You're forgetting a few things there sport. First of all, Perry was issued an ultimatum: get the hip fixed or he's gone. Second, with Perry's age, his range and quality of his vocals suffered. Third, Pineda gave Journey a new and fresh spark. And as a musician of 29 years' experience myself, I am impressed by his stage presence. I am also an Earth, Wind & Fire fan and was at first baffled by Maurice White's absence from that group, but like EWF, Journey manages to maintain its legacy

  • @BassmanII - your points are valid but they don't invalidate what I said. Pineda's stage presence would be fine with someone other than Journey. Just my opinion.

    Thanks for commenting :)

  • good job on this song my canadian buddy!

  • Deens sense of melody, phrasing, and quality of his vocal tone is just simply a much closer to Perry's than Arnels is. If you are going to even step into the ring to sing a Steve Perry tune you had better have an excellent sense of melody and phrasing as well as a good, smooth focussed tone on the high notes or else you are not going to make the grade.

Put Deen with a top rung vocal coach for a year and he would completely eclipse Arnel on every Journy song that he was allowed to sing.

  • scary good. that's simply amazing, ha I love how some people think their great at drums, and then they watch Deen Castronovo play and the competition is brought to a whole new level. I'm only 14, but journeys amazing and I love Mr. Castronovo:) he's the reason and I play, and he's who I watch to learn to play. God bless journey:)

  • Dean has problems with songs like Patiently and more challenging songs though he tends to go flat a lot but again better than the other atrocious replacements Lol

  • Why doesnt Dean come out from behind the damn drums and front Journey

Hes much better than any other replacement

why is Dean hiding behind the drums LoL

He has a good range and tone Hes not Perry by a long shot but better than that filipino

They appear to be hiding Dean because he has short hair possibly and he looks nerdy but at least he can sing the songs

Deans voice is nowhere near as strong as Perrys or as clean ad distinct but a decent repacement

  • augeri was the worst steve perry replacement! deen rules! journey rules! end of story.

  • Add this one to the list of Journey songs that Deen totally outshines Arnel on. Deen is having fun with this song, and it shows. Singing this song as well as Deen does is something few people can do. Playing drums like Deen does is also somethign few people can do. Singing and playing at the same time at the level Deen does puts him in a very elite league with few peers.

  • @neechee5150 ..... arnel will not sing this song because this song is for deen during live performance.... but if he is given a chance to sing this song .... definitely he will not say no.... your are saying that deen totally outshines arnel with this song.. this sounds like a competition between this two guy... try to picture this one... how about deen singing all the songs that arnel covers... think that many times... let deen sing amazing from aerosmith.. hahaha.. think that many times. haha

  • @neechee5150 .. search for this one Ahole... ARNEL PINEDA OF JOURNEY AS STEVEN TYLER OF AEROSMITH - AMAZING WITH ZOO BAND

  • @ddsurfer When I want to hear Aerosmith, I will put on their CD or see them in concert as will thousands of others. Deen only needs to do a great job of singing journey songs to shine when he gets on stage with Journey, and he simply raises the bar for Arnel everytime he takes over lead vocals. I am sure all the youtubers accross the world are impressed with your use of profanity, slurs, and bigotry.

  • @neechee5150 .... and where are your videos now?....... arnel and deen are diffirent... deen is also my idol actually.. but man .. show some respect also for arnel...the most difficult part of a vocalist.. is to cover songs from different artists.. there are things that deen cant do what arnels can.. and vice versa... salute to Journey.... end of arguments... peace!

  • @ddsurfer Think about this for a minute. Why woud Deen even sing those other artists material when he is a member of a bonifide professional band for over a decade that aside from a few exceptions does not do cover tunes. Whether there are videos of Deen singing those songs is of no relevance here. The issue here is does Deen sing Journey songs better than Arnel, and the simple answer is that Deen raises the bar everytime he takes over lead vocals

  • @neechee5150

I agree. There's no comparing Deen and Arnel. Deen wins hands down every time. What a huge talent!

  • Deen is blessed with talent that places him in a very elite group with Phil Collins. Both Deen and Phil are extremely talented drummers and both are strong enough singers to be lead singers. Singing a song such as this while playing the drum parts Deen is playing is simply amazing.

  • @neechee5150 ............... show me also a video of deen .... singing alone from heart?.... you do the research faggot.... how they found Arnel... they look for arnel actually...they've contacted arnel thru youtube... ENVY... DO THE RESEARCH.... ADMIT IT.. you can not accept that the lead singer now of Journey is a pure FILIPINO.... hahaha... loosers....

  • @ddsurfer Why would Deen even attempt to cover Ann Wilson's Alone? What would be the point? If you want to hear that song performed live you would go to see Heart live or some cover band. Your lack of any cogent argument and use of adhomenim labels and attacks is proof positive that you cant support your assertion with a solid fact based argument. I could not care less where Arnel is from. He simply gets blown away by Deen on every Journey song Deen sings

  • @neechee5150 .... and another one faggot.... Survivor - Search Is Over (ZOO).... probe to me that deen can sing this one.... .... close to this one... prove it to me....

  • @ddsurfer When you cant refute the message/argument, you have to attack the messenger. Deen is not in a cover band. Why on earth would he sing a survivor song when he works with big name artists in creating original material. Deen surpased the bar band/cover band stage of his career while he was a young teen, and he has earned the right to play and record with some big names -Ozzy, Paul Rogers, Tony McAlpine, Journey and Steve Via to name a few.

  • @neechee5150 ... and heres another one... aerosmith amazing cover by the zoo

  • How har it should have been the days os JOHN WAITE at Bad English...

  • If you dont like the decision of Neal as he chose Arnel Pineda, then you should be the coordinator of Journey.. Bro, youre just a little too loud to say it but you think you can do find someone who can replace Perry?

  • he should've got a gospel tenor to replace peerry. alot of those guys studied music and are amazing tenors. like the tenor from gold city. the kingsmen

  • anyone who criticized Arnel... there is only word i can say.. ENVY...

  • Dean is Journey's strong point as well as Arnel too

    Much respect for this band

  • arnel doesnt even sound like Perry at all. everyone who thinks arnel does is deaf or something there is such a big difference

  • @ddsurfer Arnel does not even aproach 99.9% of sounding like Steve Perry. Arnel simply lacks the range, dynamics, scale and tone along with that unique blend of power and finese that Perry had. Arnel also struggles to keep his accent from over coloring his vowels. Arnel sings like he is working. On the other hand, Deen sings like he is having fun and he is singing from his heart and he is himself while still emulating Steve Perry.

  • @neechee5150 ................... envy................ then why they pick Arnel of all the auditioners out there... he was able to make all the songs of journey don't say he lacks the range ... he can sing also Alone from heart... Listen to your heart from roxette... don't say he lacks the range.. did hear what neil schon's comment about arnel.. he was able to hit the all the notes of the search is over... he can be a survivor member too.

  • @ddsurfer Not sure where you are getting the envy thing from, but you have nothing to base that upon onther than your own biased uninformed opinion which is flavored with an adhomenin approach and a defense of Arnel. Let me put it in a bit more simple terms, had Deen wanted the job and felt comfortable being outfront of Journey, Arnel would have never even had the chance to sing for any sort of an audition.

  • @ddsurfer Cont. If Arnel is so vastly superior to Deen and can blow him away on singning Mother Father, Still they Ride, Where were you and Patiently, Arnel would be singing lead vocals on those songs which happen to be some of the most challenging vocal performance songs in the journey catalog.

  • @ddsurfer Arnel has to work to emulate Steve Perry's style of vowell production, enunciation and diction. Arnel also strains to reach some of Perry's high notes. Deen on the other hand does these things rather easily and much more naturally becase he is singing closer to has natural voice than does Arnel when they both try to cover Perry's material. When Arnel sings free form or improvises, you can really tell how dissimilar his vocal style is to Perry's.

  • @ddsurfer When Arnel unseats Deen from performing such demanding songs and mother father, still they ride, and pateintly, you can then make your case that he has equal range to Deen or Steve Perry. Hitting a high note is one thing. Doing it on a regular basis while maintianing a clean, clear focused, unstrained tone is quite another. Arnel knows that Deen often steals the show vocal wise, and if he were to deny this, he would be a liar.

  • @ddsurfer To top it all of Deen does this while he is playing drums which puts him at a disadvantage as he has to focus on all the aspects of drumming and have the staminia to keep good breath control and a focussed tone. Deen is the one to be envied, not Arnel. Deen is playing drums and singing lead vocals at a level of talent that very few musicans can do.

  • @ddsurfer You need to do some research. Neal offered Deen the chance to do lead vocals before Arnel was even considered for an audition. I have no envy for Arnel. If I were to envy anyone it would be Deen. Your ad homenim approach is simply a diversion from the issue. Show me a performance of Still they Ride, Mother Father & Patiently where Arnel clear outshines Deen.

  • SOB what the hell was neil thinking when he chose AP. They should have kept Deen C insted of arnel. He has an absolute strong voice with no strain. Great job deen!!!

  • this sint right, i mean wasnt fair, i saw ageri live, and deen never sang any songs, only when jss was singin did deen sing a few

  • and when augeri was on bvox, deen sang a few, not because augeri couldnt, but just to let steve go backstage and have a drink of water, and to cool down. there are plenty of other reasons that i dont know

  • @laddieola101 You are getting closer. I know someone who ran sound for them. Deen would help Ageri with some of the high notes.. The new guy can hit them all.. quite surprising to me! Deen has also mastered the style of S. Perry very well. : )

  • @laddieola101 fuck any reasons. he is great, that's undeniable.

  • Journey`s on the road again! I`m boycotting the White River Amphitheater in favor of the gorge in George, WA. Traffic in and out of Auburn sucks! 90 minutes last year just to get out of the parking lot the last 2 tours. The gorge in George is rated the best outdoor venue in North America and the traffic to and from is much better! I don`t care if it`s a farther drive to go to a better venue!!!

  • Then why would he have a wife and kids? What makes you think he's gay?

  • hell theres was the replacement lead singer right there.the man sounds like perry and right under thier noses.sounds great nice video

  • He's got a fantastic voice

  • can u send me the link or something I'm having a hell of a time finding this

  • alright! you have to download the whole concert tho! just go to my channel, and in the description there is a link to the website!

  • i could just watch this video for the moment that augeri's shirt flies open at :12 . lol

  • aha, obsessed much? well i shouldnt be talking, i love augeri too!

  • obsessed is putting it mildly.

  • lol

  • Where did you get this
