You are partly right North Korea was prevented in invading successfully the South but they were not defeated outright. They never surrendered. Control of the battlefield is essential to claimng victory. Thats why Uk/US must never pull out Afghanistan until Taliban are routed/surrender. We leave, they claim victory.
@bluenose4344 The N Koreans were on the verge of being defeated, but the Chinese intervention of 300,000 troops off the bat changed that, after that is was a push back and forth across the 38th parallel. The Chinese had the numbers and there country right next door, the Allies had the fire power and had to fly/ship there troops in.

in ww1, they pretty much fought in one battle. the army did the bulk of the fighting.
in ww2, they were in the pacific, but more soldiers fought there, and killed more japanese. no marines of note in europe.

Right up until 1973.
But the fact is: The war started in 1964 and ended in 1976. Within those years. The "mighty US Army" couldn't defeat a collection of peasants.

So using chemical weapons and strategic bombing, killing over 2 million Vietnamese civillians isn't a war? Deploying over 500,000 troops is a "police action"? Do you know what war is? Face it, America LOST in Vietnam. Due to its own incompetence politically and militarily.

@crazyhorse1369 I have no wish to get involved in nationalism and i dont know much abouty vietnam war so i won't make any comment there. only one small point, in terms of stats the US/South Korea+Allied coalition surely had fewer losses in terms of casualties and won more battles i think i am correct in saying whoever has control of the battlefield tends to be labelled the victor. Sadly in this case that would go to North Korea.

@crazyhorse1369 my mistake - i wa multi tasking at the time not fully concentrated on task in hand. I had in mind vietnam war. But about the Korean War was ended on an armistice. You are partly right North Korea was prevented in invading successfully the South but they were not defeated outright. They never surrendered. Control of the battlefield is essential to claimng victory. Thats why Uk/US must never pull out Afghanistan until Taliban are routed/surrender. We leave, they claim victory.

@bluenose4344 The N Koreans were on the verge of being defeated, but the Chinese intervention of 300,000 troops off the bat changed that, after that is was a push back and forth across the 38th parallel. The Chinese had the numbers and there country right next door, the Allies had the fire power and had to fly/ship there troops in.

@bluenose4344 N Korea did not have control of the battlefield, they were on the verge of defeat until China came in with there massive human waves. In the end it was a stalemate. Nobody won the korean war. We could of just nuked them and called it a win, but the radiation fallout would of been bad.
