I was fortunate enough to see Arthur perform live many, many times between 1970 and 2004 and every time I listen to his music I am reminded how badly the world misses his talent. When I shook his hand and thanked him for his music after an open-air gig in England, he hugged me and said "Well thank you, sir". A true genius. Everyone who appreciates that fact has a responsibility to ensure that future generations have the opportunity to experience the joy his music brings.
@billk754 google the song, and click on the wikipedia. it will tell you about the song, band and how arthur lee wrote it and the drummer was pissed with the constant drum roll. What a lazy drummer. My bro, is my drummer and he is a machine, relentless assault with double bass and speed. never gets tired. We call him Joe the Butcher. 1 for that, 2 he was named after our uncle who.... did things
@evilmike76 Yeah, evil, I know.......was agreeing with you cause I'm a drummer and use to cover that song a long time ago........your uncle scares me lol
@billk754 Did you ever listen to the Ramones version? it's pretty cool. It's kinda close to the original, but with that typical Ramones all downstroke guitar playing. I think it was when Richie Ramone was the drummer.
Hi Simonsbuddy, I can't be certain but you are probably right in saying about late 1966 at the Whisky a gogo in LA..a good night..am told that I enjoyed it as well!
When was this recorded? Would you amend the comments...or do you have to go through all the comments in the hopes of finding out the date? It sounds like it might be circa 1966. True?
This song is the ONLY song that's impossible to find in it's origional studio recording on Youtube. I wish I had kept the single I had from those days, I can never hear it again...there's an explosion at the end.....on the origional recording.
@SuperUncleDenny: Just discovered The SoulBenders on YouTube a few days ago. Their version of "7 & 7 Is" has got to be one of the best '60s Psycho-Punk singles ever recorded. What a Ball-Buster!
@SuperUncleDenny I just listened to The Soulbender's version......are you fucking kidding me? WAY better? WAY more of a lameazz imitation copy is more like it.
This is a great song by LOVE... I will be setting up an radio interview shortly with Johnny Echols, lead guitarist from LOVE. This will be a one hour interview and Johnny will be discussing his career.
This will be broadcasted on ErrorFm.com, The Larry Woodside show.

Oddly enough, the original version of this is the only song I've never been able to find on youtube. What a bummer. This music is so old it can't hurt anyone to listen to it. I used to have the single of this song.
@paisleyization I have the original 45 on Elektra. I'm a little confused on this copyright thing though. Ican't put it up? Are we talking about the music as well as the video or just the video?
It's Arthur. I first saw him in '93 , and three times after that . He was singing "7 and 7 Is" , not surprisingly , in a different , higher , register than on the record. A real singer will have better pitch , with time , and Arthur was such a singer.
Great version of this song - thanks! It really highlights the thread between Lee and Hendrix and Lee's influence on him and his singing style (and vice versa musically, for sure). Dylan's singing/talking style too in the 60's. I'd bet Lee's music encouraged Hendrix a lot. "Love" it! This tune was really way ahead of it's time. And it's barely 2 and a 1/2 minutes!!! and we're still listening to it. Far out, man. Ha! Thanks!
This most definitely does sound like Arthur Lee singing cause it is him! What is it with folk that don't have a scoob but think they do, class........There is about a hundred live recordings of this song and everyone sounds different. This isn't Arthur Lee ha ha, I'll crack the jokes.
@anarchore According to the sleeve notes on Love Masters compilation it took 60 takes to get the drumming right on the first half of this track. Their management must have had faith in them!
If you look to the side of related videos and check out the video posted by arthurleelove, you can see that this is Arthur singing, but yeah it doesn't sound like him.
Ok, i can see that this recording is indeed of Arthur Lee singing. If it's from '91 that's like 26 years later, so I can see why his voice is different; peoples' voices change, especially over that long a period. I was under the impression it was some kind of recording c.65-66 -- i stand corrected. I may not have a "scoob", rickyt226 (whatever that is) -- I'll try to get one. My comment wasn't meant to be The Gospel According To...It was just my initial impression. Big whip.
Your mother and mine. 'And my dog lies hypnotized' Complete and unconditional love for you and your children if you are brave enough to have them someday, and even if you don't mom and i are infinitely joyous with you
It is surely clear that the copyrights must be limited in time. Just imagine that some motherfucker company has bought the copyrights for the works of Socrates or Plato couple of centuries ago! What's the nonsense is this you probably think?
This company would be richer than the entire world today!

i tried to upload the studio version of "alone again or" by love but youtube disabled the audio (well, WMG did.) anyway, anyone know where i can that sonf it here on youtube...the album version --- not live?
I though this was an Alice Cooper compositon on his Special Forces album. Obviously not, from the other posts. Still, every support band at an Alice concert I've been to has played this song, I thought it was a traditional nod to Alice.
Oh, nice!! I heard this one on Golden Nuggets Pyschedelic rock of 1965-1967, I think that's the years covered. I'll borrow the cd again from the library. So many groups....
The original, studio version, "7 And 7 Is..." was recorded in 1966 on Elektra #45605 - sure wish all of the original hits were still allowed here on You Tube. Lately, there seems to be more of them removed. Kind of a rip off, isn't it?
Better get a flash video downloader and player and get started since GREED is steadily taking down all the studio stuff, and in particular dead stars stuff. So don't flame me about "giving the artist's their due", and read copyright and entertainment law before commenting on "fair usage" or "inherited rights". To answer your question on licensing rights, the Warner Music Group (WMG) owns the rights to all the studio recordings by Arthur Lee and Love.
Since late 2008, WMG has continuously taken down various other YouTube videos featuring music belonging to various bands and music labels, regardless of disclaimers. Many of these claims have included videos belonging to groups who are not signed with WMG.
INteresting, do you mean WMG have no right to take certain music videos down, but they do anyway? if it doesn't belong to them why do they take these videos down?
Well, I think that WMG may be buying certain limited licensing rights or distribution rights from companies even if those acts are not signed with them directly. Initially WMG was removing the entire video; now they block the audio and state that it is not authorized by them.
@mgb11271950 WMG is doing what Israel's doing, when Israel attacked the Flotilla in International waters remember Warner Brothers(Founders) are Jewish.
From what I understand, the labels negotiated a cash settlement with Youtube allowing their music to be broadcast. When WMG attempted to hike their fees up, Youtube rejected them. In turn WMG pulled the rights to their music.
ahhhh! i say, give people the music, that's what it's there for...to listen to...to enjoy... i'm so sick and tired of this beautiful world we could be living in being ruined by money, money, money, red tape, more money, money... the lyrics for the song "money-go-round" by the kinks defines the shittiness that is the music indistry best.
The photograph looks very Doors-like. I wonder if they used the same photographer. Both bands were on Elektra.
