I would definately go with t-case. They 4:1 has a great low range and the high range is corrected for i believe 31's. I also suggest this because down the road if you keep building you'll possibly end up switching out axle parts anyway. If you are handy though the older trackers/sidekicks front diff's are swapable with the samurais front and rear and are 5.12's instead of the 3:73. Check out the samurai forum on off road DOT com they are super friendly
@daniel57517 I went with geared tcase. DEFINATELY the better option. I went with 4 to 1, not bad but 6.5 to one is the best. Just do it you wont regret it.

Not to mention you can actually work on them easily. 12mm wrench and socket, philips screwdriver will fix about 90 percent of the truck. Throw in a set of channel locks and you can do the axles as well.

The problem on the east coast is back when scrap metal went so high they all got scrapped because people thought all of their rusty old vehicles were worth more to junk than selll (and most were) Most people scrap samuras not knowing they have a huge demand for them.
The worst thing about the east cost is the rust. I'm originally from New York but came down to Phoenix for school. Everybody and their brother off-roads here so it's hard to not want to join in the fun. I just picked up an 86' sammy for $560. While not in the greatest condition as you can imagine for a 23 year old vehicle it has no rust! A real treat for those of use from in humid climates.
If they wouldn't spread salt the second it gets below 60 here in NY we would be alright. My blazer is a PA truck, not a ounce of rust on it. Same goes for when i was in Idaho, most of the area uses sand/cinders not salt. So even though they get way more snow than NY you should see how many solid axle yotas are on the road there looking like new.

Just know these are not showroom condition sammi's Most of them cost less than 300 dollars,would never pass inspection again and had to go through alot of work just to be drivable.
inspection? where do you live? they don't inspect cars here in Kentucky which is good since you can drive anything as long as it runs and has lights and street legal tey don't care. i wouldn't mind having one of those.
If you ever get north you will understand why vehicles need inspections. The salt rots them out. Trust me these samis dont belong on the road. To even come close you would have to rebuid the lights,replace the entire break lines,exhaust system,build fenders,floor panels, replace the window frames so the wipers work. Thats a start

oh and not to mention the get somewhere around 40 Mpg and will go preactically anywhere... you like cant go wrong with something like that..oh and especialyl when you put a jetta tdi motor in it, itll get something like 60Mpg and like almost 100HP lol:P
your mpg numbers are greatly exagerated. a good running samurai on a good day, and if it is a later model with fuel injection might get, and i repeat, might get 27mpg, which is damn good for a 4x4, esp one that is 30 or so years old. i have heard claims of 40mpg with the jetta tdi, and they are credible. in reality i would expect 20mpg from a stock one, and lower that number as you modify it with bigger tires, motors, etc
If you are going to drive on the street than a jeep is good. A lot of off road and a samurai is a better choise. There are tons of after market items for them and are way cheaper to build than a jeep. And can keep up with them easy. I would look at what you want to do with it and go from there. Just my opinion.

stock they are a blast and great vehicles. Best thing to do is goto web forums and read what works and what fails. Mine had YJ springs,yota axles and a 4:1 t-case thats about it and it was a blast.
What sucks is the only reason the footage stops is my camera battery died. We had some awseom climbing there hat day and eventualy all made the cliff.

oh and not to mention the get somewhere around 40 Mpg and will go preactically anywhere... you like cant go wrong with something like that..oh and especialyl when you put a jetta tdi motor in it, itll get something like 60Mpg and like almost 100HP lol:P

your mpg numbers are greatly exagerated. a good running samurai on a good day, and if it is a later model with fuel injection might get, and i repeat, might get 27mpg, which is damn good for a 4x4, esp one that is 30 or so years old. i have heard claims of 40mpg with the jetta tdi, and they are credible. in reality i would expect 20mpg from a stock one, and lower that number as you modify it with bigger tires, motors, etc

If you are going to drive on the street than a jeep is good. A lot of off road and a samurai is a better choise. There are tons of after market items for them and are way cheaper to build than a jeep. And can keep up with them easy. I would look at what you want to do with it and go from there. Just my opinion.

it was comon land, on an island off the west coast of scotland (isle of uist)UK.all we did was follow a track that was already wrecked by peat diggers, i think that because there ment to maintain that track, and they havnt, there passing the blame onto us, so that they get a new track out of it.
never mind though, im saveing fuel in the sj anyway lol
its got a years mot and 6months tax and i havnt driven it since i got the letter threatening court action, what a waste!!

stock they are a blast and great vehicles. Best thing to do is goto web forums and read what works and what fails. Mine had YJ springs,yota axles and a 4:1 t-case thats about it and it was a blast.
