  • I see why the scream of the one girl would startle an audience but why would they think it was part of the show? As for my opinion, being grown in the eastern seaboard, I think Carousel of Progress is better

  • I learned about the 1975 girl's accident today. However I saw the show in 1982 and I thought it was the best attraction on Disneyland. And I thought then and I still think today that the building design was a great idea for moving big crowds into larger shows. Too bad that nothing as compelling as this show has appeared before of after it.

  • @BadIdeaBearCub actually Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress in Disney World is as compelling as this show and has appeared after it.

  • @jedi725 Yes except that Carousel of progress is a bit too serious and also feels dated. (It's even older than America Sings, eventhought the animatronics were replaced with new ones). America Sings was amazing. There is a magic in seeing talking and singing cartoon animals. Its a bit like comparing a documentary to an animated movie or a Broadway musical. The only other similar show I remember is the one with vegetables in Epcot.

  • You think this is the video were all probably looking for. No, definitely, definitely not. I'm looking for footage I saw in another video of a woman who died July 8th in 1984 named Deborah Gail Stone who was basically cut in half down the middle

  • @chesterbesterfeild Its was 2 weeks after the attraction opened, 1974

But everytime i see this show or even thinking of DISNEYLAND i have to remember that day

  • that would have scary the heck out of me. Especially after I read about the incident, that poor girl

  • I''m going to cry. Thanks for putting this up. I had such wonderful memories of disneyland in the 80s when I was performing ragtime at Coke Corner, and top 40 in Tomorrowland. This was when Disneyland was charming, and not the Disneyland of today.

  • splash mountain sucks this is the best ever

  • i want this back who cares about someone getting squished we need this not innoventions

  • Having country blood in my veins I absolutely love the second act with the geese, Saddlesore Swanson, the fox and the rabbit on the pushcar, the dog sitting on the mule with the hole through his sombrero. if I had the money...

  • this is awsome

  • Wow! This used to be my favorite thing to see at Disneyland when I was a kid. I was so bummed when it closed down. I always wished they would bring this attraction back. Great video, thanks for posting!

  • when they made splash mountain they took most of the charecters from america sings and put them in splash mountain

  • almost all those charaters are in splash mountain!!

  • it's funny that the vultures at 7:52 how much there voices and there script change on splash mountain. "time to be turning around if only you could,if you finally found your laughing place then how come you are'nt laughing? everybody's gotta laughing place mabye this one is yours and when you see that ol brer rabbit he wont be laughing no more, laughing place we got your laughing place right up here,oh that brer rabbit learned his lesson but im a fraid he learned it to late

  • well they sing better and catchyer songs in splash mountain my favorite ride in disney! but not disneyland

  • Thank You so much for these videos. My greatest memories from going to Disneyland as a child came from this attraction. I never knew of Deborah's death as a child, but now that I have read about her, and her life, I'm sure she would have never wanted such a family friendly ride to be closed or removed due to her death. It would be great if this ride would return, and be dedicated to her memory, but sadly Disneyland just isn't as magical as it once was. They only care about dollars and cents.

  • I always think someone died in this room. I wouldn't be happy watching this in the same room. It's very weird hearing this happy music and thinking of someone was crushed to death. RIP Deborah!

  • @Weasleygirl01 True I would just feel so disturbed on it...

  • god bless deborah

  • Sam the eagle is voiced by Burl Ives who also starred in Walt Disney's "So Dear to my Heart" with Bobby Driscoll and "Summer Magic" with Haley Mills, but he's also known for narrating and singing Rankin/Bass's "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"

  • It's so sad, she was only 18.

  • Hey could one of u guys tell me wat part was the screaming

  • @carmineA1 1 : 39

  • @Toaster12000 whats at 1:39

  • @seb76834 where the girl screamed

  • it would be soooooo creepy sitting next to where the 2 people died with this music to it..... what if there were or is there blood stains?

  • @ThePopcorn12 one of them died by getting crushed between the two walls that were on the stage. but there wouldn't still be blood stains the walls had to be replaced by ones that you could get out of if another accident like that happened. sad how that girl died though :( but who else died there?

  • it would be soooooo creepy sitting next to where the 2 people died with this music to it.....

  • @ThePopcorn12 I reckon only one person died on this attraction - 18 year old Debbi Stone, back in 1974, only two weeks after it opened! She was a hostess who would welcome guests in the first room. She was too close to where the wall of the moving building passed by the stationary wall of the stage and she was crushed...very sad.

  • i thought the lyrics were ,,stuck a finger up his butt and called it macaroni"?

disneyland is deceiving the young generation of this great natino.

  • best song at 2:00

  • Perhaps due to encroaching aging-related insanities, "Billy was a bad guy, and carried a big gun" has been poking my brain crevices for months and I really needed to hear it again. Thank you for posting this.

  • ii need this ride back!!!

was the deborah stone thing real

  • @themssoccerchick Yup. That really did happen. It's on Wikipedia.

  • You mean most of the modern audience I love original Disney and the newer parts

  • Its sad that modern audiences are no longer entertained by this

  • this is horrible

  • oh , the disneyland.. , the real one with robot animals and stuff oh i miss that .. thanks for posting this

  • "I don't know why but this ride pop in my head and I started looking for it on here and found your and love it. thank you so much for posting this. I miss this ride so much.

  • Reason the ride was built originally: to celebrate America's bicentennial

Reason they closed it: The bicentennial ended, and the ride became dated

Reason to bring back the ride: As tribute to the creative genius of Imagineer Marc Davis

  • @frankydman Don't forget that Marc Davis was also one of Walt's original animators! He created some of the company's most memorable characters: Cruella Deville, Cinderella, Flower the Skunk, and Tinkerbell. I wish some of the modern animators imagineered some rides though, the closest thign we have to that is the awesome animation of Donald Duck and the 3 Caballeros done by Eric Goldberg in Epcot's Grand Fiesta Tour.

  • @frankydman Reason not to bring it back: Splash Mountain is better and it would be the same AAs as Splash.

On another note, last time I rode Splash I noticed the vulture's mouth wasn't moving. Have they seriously not fixed it in the entire time between this and now or did it just break down?

  • @PhineasTheGhost

So then you think they should not pay tribute to the creative genius of Marc Davis?

  • @frankydman It's not like this was the only attraction Marc ever worked on. He did Pirates, Country Bears (still running in Florida), Mansion, and more. If they were to pay tribute they would just have a small attraction on Main Street U.S.A. like they did for Mary Blair.

  • is the vulture on the left at 7:57 broken?

  • @aMAXproduction Yep, his mouth. Compare it with another AS video

  • @DjekStudiosMovies probably needed a bit of TLC

  • Did you know it was it's last day when you were recording this?

  • @DjekStudiosMovies read the description.

  • @aMAXproduction It only says it's recorded on the last day, not if that was on purpose.

  • they need to bring this back it was great fun, my dad would take me every summer and this is one of the rides we would all was go on. Now I have a kid and want to take him to see this.

    Thanks for the vid.

  • @wolf9walker hey. pssst a little secret..... alot of america sings animals and some sets can be seen on Splash Mountain at Disney Land. just a little FYI for ya.

  • @zac613 Well thank you I did know that already, but are they still doing the same thing that they were doing?

  • @wolf9walker from what i've seen in vids on youtube. some of the gators r still playing the banjo's.

  • @dwarflover63 have you not heard of main street usa? that's the most patriotic place/thing/thought that ive ever witnessed. Not to mention frontierland and new orleans square which both are centered around american places and eras and what about all of california adventure? Rides come and go, dont see what that had to do with patriotism...Not quite sure what youre trying to say...

  • <3 <3 <3 <3

  • Where was this attraction located? I've never heard of it.

  • @CutesyBubblez its located where innoventions is today in tomorrowland, all the animatronics were later moved to splash mountain

  • this wuz on my birthday april 10th :)

  • ever since i found out how the girl got crushed by the rotating walls,, everytime i see this i cant think of anything else accept somone got smashed in their, i wouldnt wanna ride it

  • @JOKAWILD26 same here but that one thing in tomorrow land i forget what its called but it has rotating walls i wonder if this was wat was there before it but yea i found out about debrah (the crushed girl) about five minutes ago

  • @JOKAWILD26

Yeah. I know. I almost start crying just thinking about it....what a horrible way to die!

  • They should put this in the golden horseshoe where the woody's round up was. plus when the geese r singing all the doo da day, there is a random voice(it was from the goose they put on star tours

  • @dwarflover63 They closed it because the budget for Splash Mountain went too high. The only thing they need was characters. Disney noticed how America Sings was getting bad attendance so they decided to close it down and use the chracters from that show and put them on Splash Mountain. They had a good reason to close it down. It just depends when you went to see it. I can imagine attendance dropping off in later years since the 200th anniversary of America passed.

  • watching this I recognize so many of the characters in Splash Mountain...it's cool that these characters will live forever in Splash Mountain

  • I heard a employee or a rider got crush to death on this ride... Wikipedia says that she must have misstep or something.

  • WOW! Thank you so much for posting this! When I was little this was my favorite attraction. To this day when I see these robots at Splash Mountain, I feel that old nostalgia.

  • this was cool ty

  • This was such a great attraction.

  • the way the foxes head wobbles on the railroad as he uses the hand powered train thing is...disturbing...

  • I hated this show when I was a kid. I always thought it was so boring, now I wish I had payed more attention. Sad it's gone.

  • @chimera15 well at last you appreciate it now and can watch the video. its funnny how you may not see some things right away until you mature or they grow on you. Then those things can become your favorites.

  • I get the chills...just found this, and never thought I'd see it again. Many thanks!

Greg - born 1970, lived in SoCal until a few years ago. :-)

  • @MidwestGreg I grew up in the LA area so I know how you feel. I felt the same way when I discovered these dead rides on video recently or even those still operating too far away for me to go see again. I've been away for years, still missing it.

  • dang disneyland has changed so much. i wish i coulda seen this with my own eyes but 1988 was when i was born :)

  • @DoomedFennec It's sad this one is gone, but at least there are videos available now thanks to home movies and youtube bringing everyone together like this to share. I wish they'd bring it back so my niece and nephew could see it for real too. But I heard there was another show in the carosel theater before America Sings. I think it was something about america's inventions, something with a man and his dog. But that is so old and cameras were more trouble back then, so I doubt you'll find video.

  • @DoomedFennec ....it sounded boring when described but who knows, since I never got to see it??? Just be glad that you can see this and know it wasn't just some boring old ride they got rid of to make something better.

  • Thanks so much for making this available; this is truly an exceptionally filmed amateur video! I used to listen to this soundtrack as a kid and it really brings back memories. It's such a shame the ride is gone; Innoventions is horrible.

Also, regrading the employee death that occurred on this ride, it is chronicled in the "Mouse Tales" book (can't remember if it was Part 1 or 2).

  • @svinteractive I love this ride and wish they would bring it back, but it's hard not to think of that death now that I heard about it. Do you know what happened? Did someone get out of their seat, not thinking? Or did an employee goof?

  • WOW! Your dad did an awesome job of filming this. Thanks so much to both of you for bringing back the memories! Now I can show my niece and nephew what I'm talking about. I miss this show horribly!

  • i think the feeling was that it was getting too old fashioned and staid, and that hipper, cooler, newer stuff had to come in - personally, i don't agree - i think it's totally classic and captivating...

  • I was traumatized after I heard the incident of Deborah Stone. She was crushed and literally "smushed" by one of the rotating doors in the enterance... "If you've ever seen the rotating entrance in Tomorrowland, then you know what I'm talking about.

  • @TheWowzersTV - that was really early in the life of the attraction, in the early 70s - they fixed the mechanics to make a repeat of that impossible, at least on America Sings...

  • America Sings closed in 1988 and

then Mission to mars closed in 1992

    skyway in 1994

    peoplemover closed in 1995

none of those rides were replaced untill the 1998 new new tomarroland

and they were all next to each other in the park to episize there failler

  • the animals look like the ones in song of the south lol

  • @TheAltoQueen

what video are you talking about?

  • Caurosel of Progess has been one of my favorites at magic kingdom. Why did they move it and change the song? Was it popular at Disneyland. Can I see a video of the Disneyland Carousel Of Progress?

  • I've seen the gators and frogs on splash mountain! A few of the others too!

  • I wish I could have seen this show. And can everyone stop talking about the death, it's very depressing. (poor girl :'( ) Anyway, this attraction looks really good

  • I've always wanted to ride this ride but it was Closed in 1988, now another ride took over and that ride Sucked!

    THIS IS WAY BETTER!

  • I can't find that video, but wouldn't surprise me that it exsists.

Funny, I was very young when that happened, but have never forgotten her. It wasn't until looking all that up last night, that I discovered her name and saw her photo.

I really can't believe that happened.

If you find that video, can you forward it to me?

From one Queen to another Queen!

    Cheers!

  • @GoldwingQueen1 About Debra's death? It's number one in the "Top 7 Most Gruesome Disneyland deaths" video. It's the 3rd thing in the suggestions list next to this video.

  • @TheAltoQueen are you serious?

  • RIP Deborah Stone, who was the poor girl that worked at Disneyland in the 1970's. She was crushed to death on this ride.

  • @GoldwingQueen1 Yeah, this ride was always creepy, the animals are murderers who sing and dance while the poor girl's ghost lingers in limbo circling forever on the ride, while being perpetually mocked.

Ding dong the witch is dead

  • @AJollyGoodFelon is that true? in what year did that happen?

  • @GoldwingQueen1 What happened to her??

  • @GoldwingQueen1 it was a tradgedy. She is in a better place though.

  • @GoldwingQueen1 @Superstarskd made a reference to your comment.

  • The one vulture's mouth doesn't move when it's talking about Billy the Kid

  • Yes, this attraction was at Disneyland. An employee was killed in this attraction and I always wondered if that was why they closed this attraction.

  • was this attraction in disneyworld?

  • Wow, how wonderful. Really brought back memories. I used to take my children to Disneyland and this was one of my favorite attractions. Thank you so much posting. I was so sad to see it go and appear in Splash Mountain. Since I don't like roller coasters, I have never gone on Splash Mountain and have sadly missed these characters.

  • Wow, this was excellently shot! You can tell your dad knew this attraction like the back of his hand by the way the camera anticipates what's coming next and how he places it on upcoming actions. Very well done! I think I saw this when I was 15, but don't remember much of it at all now. It's great to experience it here. Thanks for sharing.

  • one of the G-droids is named G2-9T and it sings 'I've been workin' on the Same Droid'. If you ever go to Star Tours, see if you can spot them in the crowd.

  • i rember when this show opend up back in 1974. i will miss my all time #1 show.

  • The ride was replacing The Carosel of Progress, But after America Sings CLOSED it has been empty for over 20 years!I love Disney so CLASSIC DISNEYLAND WILL BE COMING BACK TO ITS FAMOUS 1955! or 1960's!

  • that's soo cool! I recognized all of them on Splash Mountain now! Except for Sam...

  • Didn't the theater fill up with stars when the lights went out during the rotations? I know you can't really see them, but I seem to remember that happening.

  • If anyone owns the America Sings album with the booklet. or knows anyone who would be willing to sell it, please tell me. I can't find one!

  • I hate Ebay. I came within 14 minutes of winning the 1974 America Sings LP with 11-Page Booklet in MINT CONDITION, when some other bidder got in at the very last second and won it for $30.00! I was the first bidder after 7 days and he came out of NOWHERE. AAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

  • I hate splash mountain, I want Disney to bring this back.

  • Disney should bring back america sings.

  • @stinkyvictor I think it would be too wierd to bring it back now. It's a good show but it was only made to celebrate the 200th anniversary of America in the 1970s. Since that has passed and we we haven't gotten to the 300th anniversary or anything it just wouln't feel right.

  • @stinkyvictor well if they do bring it back they should put it somewhere other than tomorrowland because even when it was in dinseyland it wasn't the future it was the past if they even where to bring it back they should put it somewhere like frontierland cuz like it talks about the past really and to put it in frontierland they would have to take out big thunder ranch or pirates lair (once tom sawyer island) but i see where your getting at i would like to see the show back again.

  • @stinkyvictor NO someone died on it!!!

  • @stinkyvictor I agree, Deborah Stone was a terrible incident, yet it was caused by accient. Not a attraction malfunction

  • @TREEVVV5000 i agree. but this could have been prevented if they used glow tape on the walls or not have it all the way blacked out when the seats rotated. but the accident did happen and such a shame and tragedy. R.I.P Ms. Deborah Gail Stone

  • @stinkyvictor Wanna get swiushed?!?!

  • @Superstarskd Oh now I get what your saying. But, after the incident safety lights were installed and the walls would break away if a similar accident occurred.

  • Thank you SO much for this! OMG, America Sings and Country Bear Jamboree were the gems of Disneyland...and they replaced both with junk. I wish my daughter could have been part of this, as I was.

  • @deucedoll Country Bear Jamboree is still at DisneyWORLD I believe, though. They are very similar.

  • yes its still there, i was there a few days ago

  • Is it like "America Sings" I am going to Disneyworld in March. Is it for little kids? I am an adult, so I was just wondering if I'd like it.

  • Sorry to Dissapoint you but the Ride Closed 1988!

Its been empty for 22 years!

It might reopen in the future of Disneyland with the People Mover reopening as well!

  • If you're talking about the theater itself, it's still operating. It's been home to Innoventions since 1998. From the time America Sings closed until Innoventions began, the theater was empty.

  • the country bear jamboree is still at disney world in florida, i was there a week ago

  • was this like carosel of progress ???

  • Yes! After the New Yourk Worlds fair in 1964-65 it came to disneyland for a while then It moved to Disney World! Then when this opened it wasn't popular so they Closed it! Now some of them are in Splash Mountain and some are in STAR tours as G-Droids!

Is that enough info for you???

  • It was built to replace Carousel of Progress.

So yeah, the stage did move like in that show.

  • 4:00 Lol IS THAT A STILL?

  • like your mom.

  • I know the Boot Hill Boy on the left can't open his beak.

Did Disney really not care enough about this ride at the end of its run that they said "screw maintenance. We're gonna tear it down anyways?"

  • i never got to see this show as i was born a few years after it closed, but i really wish i could have. the fox at 3:58 became brer fox, right?

  • All of the actual Song of The South characters (Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, Brer Bear) were custom made for Splash Mountain.

  • u no that some one died on this because of the rotating stage?

  • lmao what kind of weirdo dies from a rotating stage bet he did something stupid :/

  • @thatnylesguy No really though, it was sad.... :(

The person who died was Debra, an employee at the time. She probably couldn't see at the time the seats were moving(since the room darkens after one scene is over). She was crushed in the ride.

  • I remember feeling cheated that Disneyland replaced the Carousel of Progress with this in 1974. I can see why they took it out; all the grandparents and older people that might remember these old songs have long since passed on. Interesting use of recycling these characters for a ride (Splash Mountain) based on a movie Disney refuses to release (Song of the South). The implied stereotypes don't translate on a log plume ride I guess. Hey by the way, good job by your Dad on the camera work!

  • i dont remember seeing this but it looks interesting

  • I cant believe someone died on a ride like this.

  • how did they die

  • apparently the woman worked for disney and there are two revolving doors or something and I think she caught either her hair or vest or shirt or whatever it was and she was pulled and crushed between them. thats why they didnt have them on the ride the next year disneyland opened.

  • she was crushing between the stationary wall and the rotating wall. the people in the audience heard her screams and they stopped the attraction.

It was a very messy scene.

  • OMG!

  • Hey..it is the Splash Mountain Frogs..!!

  • Call me slow, but I don't understand how Debbie was crushed. Did the rotating wall close in on her while the solid one trapped her, or what? Could someone explain?

    Sorry. I'm quite a morbid person! :l

  • @Leatherlyy When the rotating wall was moving, she got caught in between the stationary wall and the rotating wall, and was unable to get out from between them. After that incident, they installed breakaway walls so that if someone got caught, the walls would break so that escape was possible. it was such a tragedy.

  • @gleefan111111 yes it was a tragedy. But now they don't have to worry about break-a-way walls due to the gutting out of the building and turning it into what it is today. i would still feel weird walking on the same floor that poor Deborah Stone was dragged on for hours before they found her smushed and smeared body. R.I.P Deborah Stone.

  • 4:09 he looks like Robin Hood !

  • is this at cedar point?

  • No, it WAS at Disneyland (1976-1988) You might wanna remove that comment, some people don't like it when others ask questions about the obvious/what is already known/what has already been said

  • sorry that i don't know every ride at every park in the the world and their proper location. I just thought i saw something like this at cedar point! sorry if i deeply offended you by that. my goodness

  • Don't worry, I am not offended, but others might be. And we are human, we do make mistakes

  • what park was it in, like magic kingdom or epcot

  • this was in the original Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

  • Very cool. Thanks for the great memories.

  • These poor stars, downgrades to background characters in Splash Mountain XD

  • PURE MAGIC !!!! This and The Enchanted Tiki room are so very well done, I really enjoy them ,i imagine all the detailed work that went into them and i'm in awe ...Thank you for posting this memory that i remember and treasured .

By the way ,in the Carousel of Progress ,wasn't the house of the future supposed to be set in 1977 ?? and did it have a microwave oven in the kitchen?? curious .....

  • Where was this? and where was it located

  • At Disneyland, it is at that rotating carousel where Innoventions is currently at.

  • Thanks for this! It's so great to remember how the Splash Mountain characters were originally employed!

  • one of they mouths arent movin!

the bird on da left is speakin through its beak! all through the billy kid bit

  • whats the song at 3:30?

  • I think it's titled "I Wish I Was a Single Girl" if I remember it right.

  • Actually I think the ride close becuase of Lack of Money.

And the worker didnt get her head cut off, she was crushed between the rotating wall an stationary wall. :\

  • well, it's sad huh?
