why did you not put on your cover on your primary clutch ? Also what about the wet clutch springs , Just wondering because I just ordered a clutch from epi . Thanks
@jralberth Cover isn't needed when converting over to grease-less. The cover is a grease retaining cover. Didn't do wet clutch springs since they are stall springs and I wasn't looking for that. Stall springs are more for mud guys.
Wish I would have watched these videos before I worked on my 550 yesterday...I did not see splines when I put the nut back on the primary, going to pull it apart right now and check it (1.5mm shim).
For general water crossings a 700 would do good and offer plenty of power and a comfortable ride. For serious mudding or waterholes snorkels would be best for any quad. The grizzly 450 will flood if the seat goes under water since the air box is there. On the 700 everything is higher.
@GRIZZLYRIDERS2010 My honda going to be traded in for something with more power ( I like honda but I like to upgrade to something with better 4x4 system plus go more then 45mph lol) Dosn a grizzly go good in water crossing or will I need mods for that? I cross a creek sometimes and it like knee deep and a lot of mud holes around here are like knee deep.
You lose top end normally when you add a shim. EPI makes different kits and they are stiffer stall springs. Every quad is different, I didn't change out the wet clutch springs, but on your honda it is your only option.
@cumminsdiesel100 They go in the wet clutch itself. Drain oil, and then pull the primary sheave. You'll then have to remove the cover behind it to access the wet clutch.
@sepiashvili1993 nothing except changing the engine out to a v twin 800 will make it go that fast lol. Stock my 450 was hitting mid to upper 50s without problems. It isn't hitting 62 fast. Takes a lot of trail to get from 55 to 62. 0 to 45 is real quick, 45 to 55 is a little slower. The 450 chassis isn't meant to handle those speeds for long stretches. Gets kind of crazy if you hit the slightest bumps. I have everything except a BBK done.
@OneExtremeDude Yes it is the same. I have the UTV INC. Machined sheave, 1mm shim, blue secondary spring, and grease-less rollers and sliders. There are a few other options it all depends on what you are looking to get out of it. Check the clutch forum on our website for more info.
@GRIZZLYRIDERS2010 alright thats sweet, your quad looks sick without the front rack and the lights and hand guards. but ill deff look into a clutch kit, thanks!
first of all i wanna say awesome video!! great detail and great camera action! i have a question, i have a grizzly 660, is this install the same? and what kit are you using? i have 28'' silverbacks and i want more torque!! thanks
@chomps2006 Yes the install is the same except for the 660 bearing retainer cage bolts in a different place and the grease retaining cover has a few more screws. It's not a kit, EPI blue secondary spring (660 guys are using orange) UTV Inc. machined sheave, greaseless rollers and sliders and a 1mm shim. Go to UTV Inc. Website and search grizzly 660 and everything should be listed although it will say Rhino instead of Grizzly (Same)
Very good job demonstrating this, other videos I have watched made it seem much more difficult. Thanks again and looking forward to installing a clutch kit in my Grizz
hey guys i got a question... i have a stock clutch in my 600 griz no other mods but a k&n filter and 27" tires and i wanna know if i can remove the outter cover to the primary like u did to this 450. seems like extra wieght that doesn't need to be there...
i find theres no top end in it and it has to rev alot to pull them big tires.
@Richard5873 Wet clutch springs require draining oil. Gasket should be changed but if it's okay you could probrably reuse it but I would replace. Most guys use grizzly grease for the rollers so not sure about the harley grease. Check it's properties and check with your dealers service dept. if okay to use.
@Richard5873 As far as I know any one will work. Most guys make their own out of threaded rod and use a vice. You posted about that kit on the site and Jack (TM) replied in it. It is his compressor so ask in your post where he got it from.

@VJMazalin The cover is needed to retain grease. If you went to greaseless rollers you can do away with the cover

On My Grizzly 700 do You need to put grease back in?
Can Harley Havidson special purpose grease # 99857-97 work for this?
Have all parts and tools except internal clutch housing gasket, unless I do not have to replace it,and not sure if I need to drain & change oil.
THANKS SO MUCH !
