actually, it wasn't a private server (we were on the realm bronzebeard at the time). i've seen this happen a few times - basically, when someone flies in using the flight point, occasionally the game forgets to have them get off of the griffin before it lets them start running around. it was just a simple graphical glitch - prolly been fixed in a recent patch.
