How does this masterpiece only have 3800 views while crap like lady gaga and justin beiber has 100,000,000+ !?!? I mean it's unexplainable, has society really devolved that much?
@Taurusaud In short, people can't like what they've never heard or can seldom hear so they don't even know the name of the song to find it on YouTube...an entire generation of Americans dwelling in a musical wasteland!
This is the original version. There was an edited version, for 45 single release, which removed the instrumental bridge at the middle of the song. This version was included on both the mono and stereo versions of the LP.
Denny has made a video about the making of this song......Nocaro is absolutely correct......Is that Jill Gibson on 0:31? I remember she was Jan Berrys Girlfriend, until he was in that car accident, then she became Lou Adlers girl. She replaced Michelle briefly, even on the album Cover "If you can believe....." Those covers are worth a small fortune if you can find one...
At 2:44 Denny sings "I saw her" early and then comes in a second later. Bones Howe indicates that was an error in the recording that they liked and kept.
@tomtowle And that is entirely correct. In fact, when Paul McCartney first heard the recording he caught the mistake and thought to himself (correctly) that no one is that clever to do that on purpose. For some strange reason the "mistake" is quite catchy.
@tomtowle thats interesting I had always wonderd about that premature "I saw her". I was thinking that it was pretty innovative. kind of like that dissonant chord in George Harrisons "Tax Man" (a chord that went on to be pretty common.....the "purple haze chord"...cool....i love trivia like this. Here's one for you....what beatles song has two entirely different bass lines running at the same time?
Pop history and a classic to boot ......like they could reach the high falsettos ,as good as anybodyback then and a string section to boost .........thanks Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
John Philips was a weak poser. At a party he was sounding off about Mahler to John Barry who knew alot about Mahler. Barry told him that he knew nothing and it ended in a brawl.
The irony of this group and Fleetwood Mac being installed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the same time is what the groups had in common: their songs were about themselves and their relationships. Amazing. Denny has said that the worst punishment for his affair with Michelle was that this became a hit - which meant he had to sing it constantly.
An absolute favourite band of mine...they are pure magic...this is one of their great songs...of course, I think of all of their songs are great...huge, huge fan.

Great group but the way they lived there lifes was very uneducated also stupid. They had no self control over themselfs. They all ended badly.

@pbrick6301 How exactly did Michelle end badly?
Alikah1 4 months ago
@Alikah1 She appeared on the TV series "Love Boat: The Next Wave" in 1995 or so.

Great song, one of my memory songs from 1967 I think ?

Denny once said of the band, "It was over before it began."
Kind of like the affair with Michelle.
But what an ending.
BTW, when John found out about Denny and Michelle - he made Denny sit down and write this song with him.
