Also, when someone zig zags like that, if they maintain the same pattern and distance, it makes the point they change directions predictable and them leadable... :/ Straight line, unless you're being engaged close range, is the shortest distance (exposure to fire), and best...

I played paintball a lot (in the woods, not on ranges), and when friends of mine would run serpentine, they seemed easier to hit, or at least lead (paintballs are slower than 50 cal sniper rounds so leading plays a bigger part). It's just like if someone threw something in the air, it moves slowest at the top before accelerating back down.
