This was a gas explosion apparently anyway I would suggest the explosion is cause by the wind which close the door. Either because this causes a spark (metal door latch slammed into it's socket) or perhaps it changes the mixture of gas to oxygen making it explosive or shifting gas to an area
@mitchshepherd2306 Calm down. Tragedy was avoided and the firemen did a stellar job. It was a post-situation youtube remark! Perhaps you should direct your anger at the cnuts who caused the whole thing...
Fantastic work by the Firefighters especially not to go in the houses such as this, its a good job no firefighter was in there but i dont think they would be that stupid
that is not a backdraft, its probably a gas explosion, a backdraft happens when all the available oxygen has been consumed, then more oxygen is made available, eg when you open a door or a window breaks, the doors and windows were already open. its not a flashover either.
@tompenno: A backdraft and subsequent explosion occurred; that's also why the curtains on the upstairs window were sucked in immediately prior to the explosion.
@tompenno physics. Air pressure inside the house built up as the explosion occurred - door open inwards, acts like a sail and catches the expanding air and slams shit. Followed immediately by the visual flame which you wouldn't have seen initially as it's deep inside the house.
@tompenno because of the oxygen suck the atmosphere back into the heat wave the was being created by expanding pressure from the gas the was about to be ignited, pretty simple science stuff really.
@tompenno Because of the shockwave from the explosion. The door slamed just before the explosion because the explosion was "deeper" in the house. So Explosion-->Shockwave slam the door-->Explosion gets out of the house
P.S. Sorry for my bad english, but i try my best !
@tompenno the explosive gas that was leaking combusted. The pressure forced the door closed since it was where the gas was rushing through. When the door closed there was nowhere to alleviate the combustion and so as you can see, when the door closed, the gas ignited and exploded.
@tompenno The explosion was already happening and the pressure forced the door shut. Just because the explosion wasn't outside the house yet, doesn't mean there wasn't anything going on inside.
@tompenno Not a physicist, but there would've been a vast increase in pressure inside the house, causing the door to shut. Also, flames aren't the only part of an explosion. Watch mining explosions in slowmo and you'll see what I mean.
@LaurelVentura Permission was given to all media outlets to use the footage as we want to publicise this video as much as possible to warn about the dangers.
Firefighters had a very close call and am sure they had worse to come... they had to tell there wives what happend!! that's one explosion I wouldn't want to see lol

come on, the door slammed because of the massive change in air pressure an explosion causes.
It's not the ghost of a terrorist lol

Do you know why firemen were on the scene before the explosion occurred? I'm simply curious.

@singedrac They had been called to deal with a string of fires at the row of houses.

Obviously a ghost shut the door, causing the explosion. I saw that in a movie once.

@tompenno Maybe because of the air wave of the explosion

@tompenno looks to me like it was blown closed, a gust of wind will do that.
Maybe the door closing caused a spark which ignited the gas?
I assume there was gas.
