Wow! I had not seen this in a long time (I will be 49 this year). What I did not remember, was the voice over. As a fan and collector of old time radio, I easily recognize the voice as belonging to William Conrad.
I saw this commercial when I was a kid. i'm 40 now. not that i'm happy to be 40 now. anyway, this commercial convicted me to Never litter. It pisses me off to no end when I see people so unabashidly littering all around me. If I was a cop, I'd arrest every single son of a bitch I see littering every single day. I HATE Litterbugs. I keep a garbage bag in my car, so I have no reason to litter. I throw my garbage out in a garbage can, when it's full. I Don't Litter. Please Stop Littering!!!!!!!!!!!
I had the honor of know Iron Eyes the last few years of his life. What a gentleman he was. I loved him and miss him so much. If you ever get a chance to see any of the movies he was in, you would really enjoy seeing him.
I really didn't remember the music or the narration from this commercial. But the image of the crying native has always stuck with me. It really is horrible what we've done to the natural environment. I think if someone who lived here a couple hundred years ago saw it today, they'd do more than cry. Probably run screaming or just die of a heart attack! :'(

I am Hunkpati Dakota Sioux and to see an Italian dressing up as native is a travesty. Just because Italians have big noses does not make a native American.
well i am a hunk of burning love...thats about as close as we can get to an indian in new jersey...or else you can get a jackson white from ramapo...there lots of indians from india who own convenience stores...would you prefer one of them...maybe we can get Tony Soprano to do a remake of this commercial...the guys throwing the garbage...would get a badda bing badda boom...think about it...
Being and Indian isn't a matter of blood, it's a way of life. Mr Cody walked the walk as well as talked the talk. He adopted the Native way, married a Native woman, and supported Native causes. When he died, the American Indians buried him as one of their own.
The "Indian" was Iron Eyes Cody, an Italian-American actor from Louisiana. The narrator was film director Orson Wells. This is considered one of the greatest PSAs of all time. Decades later people remember it.
I shocked Liberals even let that run since thats a stero type of a Native American! And we all know liberals are always like how wrong that is. Funny.
Of course (ifukyouintheass), I am not racist either and I like this commercial too. What a coincidence. Although, I don't agree Indians don't throw liquor bottles on their own reservations... Your generalizing and talking about every reservation. I am sure you have never even been to pinch of them. If you have nothing better to say, stay off this site.
Man! This is going WAAAY back!! This is a Public Service Announcement that ran in America in the 1970's. Its to alert people of the serious problem of littering and pollution of the environment.
Ironically, the actor in this commercial is NOT actually a Native-American (Indian).
