  • i haven't even seen the entire movie, but man, it's amazing how Gene Kelly performs his characters! He's a reeeealy good ator. You don't see so much of that in his musicals.

  • It's amazing this movie could ever be made.

It couldn't be made these days...

  • @leeroynaggins why not...

  • The character E.K. Hornbeck, of course, was patterned after the Sage of Baltimore (and great curmudgeon), H.L. Mencken, who spent most of his career with the Baltimore Sun. Gene Kelly fits his part like a hand to a glove.

The Scopes trial was the first to be covered by live broadcast dispatches; twenty-two telegraphers sent dispatches across the country and to Europe - more words were wired to Britain about the Scopes trial than for any American event up to that time.

  • "I maybe rancid butter, but I'm on your side of the bread."

Damn this movie has great dialogue. And it's great to see Gene Kelly play against type.

  • @TomMSTie I agree about that line. This film had some sharp writing.

  • @Bfdidc This movie is nothing but great dialogue.
