my dream car is a ferio. i just found out that a friend of mine has an 84 fiero with only 90k on it. paid $500 for it and only needs another $600 to be in good shape. mght have to try and get it off him in the future if he takes care of it :)
I have an 1988 GT silver and in awsome shape with only 83,000 miles on her Put new tires on her and she is a beast . This is my 4th Fiero and I love her . Would'nt sell her for anything . Would love to talk with you man and see your car . Give me a shout .
@swoop7586 Yes...sure you've seen my other videos, painted it and she's running great. She's stored for the year and she'll be heading cross country next year, will be nice to get her out of the rust belt.
I was right!! I told a person last week that there was at least ONE fiero in America that still ran! Way to go dude, you have the only one. How did you keep from getting rear ended and bursting into flames?
Hey Turbo, Have you broken the deck lid switch by pushing it the wrong way? i had my friend open my deck lid for me and he pushed it down and broke the switch.
@yorgle11 thank you. yes, i can push the switch up and down and there is no response from my decklid. I'll have to pull the switch out and replace it. Thanks again
I usually have my inspections done at VIP. Where do you have yours done? They always cut the sticker when failed...all I ask for is an honest inspection. I failed at TBA once for more BS stuff it was sad but they didn't cut the sticker. So I use VIP as they haven't quite failed me yet for stuff I can't fix...a bad pitman arm was stupid, that's the worst I can think of.
@Turbo231 I bought a Fiero exactly like that new in 88. I kept it 3 years. I hope u have better luck out of yours, Mine was a P.O.S. before the warranty ran out the front control arm bushings went bad 4 times, I could grab the front wheels and move them back and forth by hand, Engine map sensor went bad, driver window motor went out. Every time I got over 100 mph the headlights would get sucked up from wind. I tried to trade it in on a new car but couldn"t give it away.
@1234597114 Indeed. Don't get me wrong, I love GM and their engineering, but as for execution of good ideas, not so much. The breach between management who is gutless and workers who have no incentive to care (some do with no reward), makes for wonderful ideas horribly implemented. Nice thing is those bad quality cars are mostly gone, the survivors are generally good ones and are worth having.
Nice fiero! Someone offered me some cash and a really nice restored 87 fiero for my gtp but I don't know if I'll do the trade. Oh and I live in bangor Maine and when my truck failed inspection they never cut my sticker like that? I'v never seen any shop cut a failed sticker- who did your inspection?
@mikeluscher159 Not really...the cars didn't change much between 85 to 88 in terms of wiring. V6's and 88 suspensions were pretty much the biggest change the Fieros ever had.
@Kruegs8 Same as any other V6 Fiero...they're peppy, but I wouldn't call them fast...think it is like 15.4 in the quarter mile...which for the mid-80s was pretty good. She's really fast 0-45 however thanks to nice gearing.
I am seriously thinking about selling my 1999 Mustang for a Pontiac Fiero. What's your view on that? Would you do it? Also I putting up a video tomorrow(7/14/2010). So please check that out and tell me what you think! :)
@WhatAmIDoingRight I would only do it if you didn't like your mustang, you liked Pontiac Fieros, and you could find a line on a nice 1988 model. Other years are nice, but if you are going all out, might as well start with a good base. 88 Models have better suspension then prior years.
@Turbo231 I love my mustang and I couldn't upload a video sorry. The only reason I would sell my Mustang is I kinda want something faster. The Mustang I have is only a V6, but is still pretty quick just not as fast as I would like it to be...
I'm looking into one of those that looks JUST LIKE THAT ONE!, but here is a stupid question would you happen to know anybody who would know how much it would be to install A/C? the one i'm looking as got 56K on it. loaded just needs A/c to be perfect.
You'd probably have to find a parts car to make it cheap. If you could find a similar car with AC, then you could take all the parts you needed and at least know the ones you'd have to replace. The catch being AC is a big deal...since the compressor is on the engine, but the evap core is in front of the radiator, that's a lot of pipe, plus interior work, changing the heating system, it's no small project by any means, but technically do-able.
I really envy you, the fiero it´s the most beautiful car i´ve ever seen, I would love to put a ferrari engine on it and whit lambo doors it would be the perfect supercar
The Caddy 4.6 (Not the Northstar, too big)is almost a drop in swap and it bolts to the trans I think also. Brother in law has one and it looks factory.
Thanks...one more question if you will. Does the stock motor respond well to boosting, as long as I take the neccesary procedures to harden the engine from the extremes of forced induction?
You can...there are kits that are made for that, but to be honest, if your looking for power, engine swaps are a more popular choice...SC3800's, 3.4L DOHC's and a variety of V8's being common. Kits are available for those as well. The engine bay accommodates them well
She'll be off the road for a while yet. I still need to replace the steering rack bushing and get her ready for paint. I don't want to damage the plastic because it's unprotected from the sun.
I've driven in the same car in 88,same color and motor combo. I've never been more impressed. To this day it is still in my top 5. Fix it and drive it man.
I had a nice gold 1987 Fiero GT 5 speed (just like your type with the light-up Pontiac letters in the back) It used to stall on me when I drove it for approx 30 mins. & the stupid dealer mechanics couldn't figure out why. It turns out an air intake hose had a small slash on it. The guy I sold it too found out what the dealership couldn't (dumbasses). I hated selling it but I accidentally shorted out the complete electrical wiring harnesses throughout the car trying to repair it. I would've cost
me about $3,000 or $4,000 grand to repair it. Talk about a major F/U!. Anyway, that's not bad that you just have 64,000 miles. I miss my Fiero. Although it was tough changing the plugs on the side next to the firewall. That's true, you definitely have to be into it & study the mechanics manuel to own one. I also didn't like how it ran on a 195* thermostat, especially in the summer. Pontiac should bring this car back. This Fiero GT & the Acura Integra Type R were the only designs for a sports car
About to buy one this weekend, hopefully for 300, Guy says the only thing he "thinks" is wrong with it is something to do with the ignition. Do you know about any ignition problems with these cars or not?
hi i am getting 18 in 2 months and wanna buy a fiero to, but i am tall , and it looks like there isnt mutch space in it , or is there ? , srry cant speak english very good
Well, I'm 6 foot 3 inches and fit fine in it, but it is an automatic transmission. I have driven the 5 speed ones and find it difficult to operate the clutch comfortably.
What cheap additions/upgrades do you suggest on doing to a 6 cylinder '87 Pontiac Fiero? It's my first car and I'm looking forward to driving it, its just pretty worn out now.
The easiest is removing the rain baffle on the intake just before the air filter. This is quite a piece of plastic. It is traditionally used to keep rain water out, but by using a K&N filter, water shouldn't be an issue. I have pictures on my website.
Did both rear bearings about a month ago (July). Yeah, having worked on quite a few 4x4 S-10 front bearings, they were a walk in the park. Now just the steering bushing/inner tie-rod, I'll be set for inspection, and later, paint.
IN Maine! Do u happen to live in Brunswick? Because i've seen a black fastback Fiero around. I've got a silver 87 Gt with a black hood myself (thats cause it had lots of faded paint on the hood) I'm gonna put her in BRG with a tan interior.
No, I live up in Bangor area. I did do a couple car shows with it about 5 years ago, but last year just daily drove it. I haven't had it on the road this year.

@PlymouthRacer729 my indoor decklid switch wont open my decklid. any advice? switch? relay? etc.?
Mitchjl22 7 months ago
@Mitchjl22 Very likely somebody pushed the rocker switch the wrong way and broke it.
If you can push it down, it's broken. But if you try that do it gently, or you'll break it. :)
If you remove the switch you can short the contacts where it plugs in to prove if it's a bad switch.
watch?v=LbMK4SnBYQ4 sort of shows it, but he's doing it differently. I don't remember which contacts you need to short.
You don't need the key on, but the switch won't work if car is in gear.
