  • @sonicfan110065 California

  • @CameramanLink thaaats why lol. very nice review. you got me outta buying this. I Thought i was much better thx

  • does it have auto focus? is their a button or an adjustor or something?

  • This camcorder is better than Canon 550D ? i mean in image quality?

  • @carboNORTH No

  • Thanks very informative.

  • I need a Sony camera for sports recording? Anybody can help?

  • Hru, well I have this same camera for my church we had it about a year and a half now. So about two weeks ago I opened the the dv tape tray and for somehow it won't close back. What do u think is the problem?

  • How mych did u pay for this?

  • @Jackanory97 I don't remember.

  • Have you tried filming the inside of your anus?? Don't worry, you will when I shove the piece of crap up your bleeding arse!!!

  • Does it come with a tripod plate??

  • @mickeyscv67 No, but it does have a tripod screw hole.

  • how can I record with this camera, with the stick memory? what are the menu options? when I put in it does not detect it by itsel...Help please.

  • @gmr1606 You can't record on the Memory Stick, just the tape. Memory stick is for photos only.

  • That's rather strange that Sony would make such a big camcorder with so few manual controls. It really is just a Handycam in non-"Handy" form.

  • @vwestlife LOL! "non-'handy' form"!! So true indeed :D This cam is one of my biggest disappointments

  • will a firewire to usb cable work for this camera? or hub work? because my computer doesn't have a firewire port or slot for a firewire card so im not sure what to do, I need help!!

  • @NoDesireSk8 As far as I know, there is no such thing as a FireWire to USB cable. You need to use a computer with a FireWire port and DV/HDV capture software. Sony has a newer model of this camcorder that uses SD cards and AVCHD recording format, which might be a better option for you.

  • hey can you just import footage straight from this camera? or would i have to but another little mini dv camera to import the footage cause i heard some cameras get messed up importing straight from them.

  • @NoDesireSk8 Yes, you can import from this camera. You need a firewire.

  • Ahh a nice looking large camcorder as they should look! hehe

HAve you tried the external mic from this camera with the FX1 and HC7? On the latter it would illiminate the tape noise wouldn't it?

Might keep an eye on these as they are slowly coming down in price, over here anyway and I could use my MRC1K with it.

  • @GanEdenAustralia This camera does have the looks, and now that I think about it, I'm still glad to have it if not just for the looks ;)

I have tried the mic on both of those cameras, but I have no way of mounting it. Quick fix: I have some velcro tape that I could use to strap this mic on top of the HC7. The squeaky tape noise came back again! It was gone and now I've noticed it with these videos lately.

  • @CameramanLink You can get the Rode SM3 mic mount which sits on the shoe. They are around $40 and remove any vibrations.

  • @CameramanLink U think the Samsung HMX-H200 is a good starter cam? U know, for short films, action sequences? I like it, it has the option to shoot 720p HD in 60fps, which works for me, AWESOMELY. Great review, btw. not such a good cam, Sony PMW-EX1 is a lot better. Hey, it's Cine Alta.

  • @AgentJuly19903 That Samsung model sounds like it would be good. It has 20x optical zoom and 60p, which is great for lots of action! But if you want the film motion look, this won't do it. It's a very similar cam to my CX150, but it uses the MP4 wrapper, which makes editing MUCH easier. Go for it!

I agree, the HD1000U is not such a good cam, but it has its benefits at times, mostly for the looks :)

  • I have had a look at this camcorder before. It's kind of a weird idea Sony had, but appearantly there are enough people who want a camcorder that just looks professional but has none of the pro features.

Recently Sony brought out the HXR-MC2000 wich is basically this camcorder except is has even less manual control and records to internal flash memory. They used the electronics of the little HDR-CX130.

  • @DrCassette I read the sensor on the MC2000 is actually slightly smaller than this. Crazy.

  • @GanEdenAustralia

Yes, the sensor is smaller. It is Exmor R wich means better light sensitivity, but I guess that can just compensate the overall loss of sensitivity you get from the sensor.

  • @DrCassette I checked out this one and it looks like they did the same thing with the HD1000U but used an AVCHD consumer camcorder inside. It seems like a better idea would be to put prosumer features on a camera like this, but I guess that's too much to ask.

  • @CameramanLink

The frustrating thing is that Sony could put many many more features into the camcorder if they would want to. A different firmware would be enough :P

  • @DrCassette Sony are very clueless sometimes. I don't know what is going on in their heads lol
