Yay! a wise statement from a practical woman -- someone who knows how to balance a budget!

America's best defense -- ending world hunger.

Who'd want to attack a nation that ended world hunger?

Instead of sending so many soldiers to fight wars for America, let's live in peace. Then we'll have the resources to send farming troops to starving countries, armed with plowshares instead of swords.

We can send them seeds, irrigation supplies, well equipment, and any training they might need.

We need to help our international neighbors avoid famines in the future.

@eastariel Although I think you have a great idea here, the extremist muslims are not waging a holy war against us because our lack of foreign aid. They simply do not like our way of life and our democracy and will continue to attack us whether we've solved world hunger or not. It's unfortunate but very very true. (USMC Vet)

4500 lost in Afghanistan since the 2001 invasion? Where is Panetta getting his numbers? I thought it was more like 1700? I am in no way downplaying the 1700+ lives lost in Afghanistan to date, but shouldn't the Secretary of Defense have a better idea of the human toll this war is having on our armed forces? That's more like the numbers for Iraqi Freedom casualties. It was probably a mental slip, but it kind of bothers me that something so important could slip so easily.
