  • this has put my mind at ease i got an emg today in a couple of hours :P

  • Very informative. I will have the exam tomorrow. I am now at ease, after having heard stories to the contrary. Thanks!

  • My 8 yr old son........ just had this Test done... he did both the Nerve Test (shocks) and the Muscular test(needle) without shedding tear! he got this test all over his arms and legs! so if your an adult and your getting this test done.... just know that my 8 yr old son went through this whole procedure.... and if he can push through the pain.... SO CAN YOU! just know- PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY!

  • i have to get this done tomorrow on my back

  • Just came from this and to everyone - don't worry, they really stick the needle very little into the skin, and on one place on my arm there wasn't even blood after he removed the needle...I don't want to curse, but it really is just a small prick XD Also, the electric shock one feels only in the arm or the leg and it just flexes the fingers/toes - doesn't hurt at all. I'm writing a novel here coz I was really bummed out it was gonna be a bad exam- not at all...wish you all the luck! :)

  • @TheWsxedcrfv having it today, thanks for your comment, its made me feel a little better about it!

  • I've had one before (pinched ulnar nerve). I really didn't feel much at all and when I did it was just a few random light vibrations. The nervousness about the test was much worse than the test.

  • I have to get this test done on Tuesday. This video makes it look easy, so I hope that it's not too bad.

  • I have to have this done tomorrow and thursday on my arms/legs...thanks for showing this video..puts my mind at ease ...:)

  • i had this done on both of my hands to test for carpal tunnle. it is a very strange feeling. doesnt really hurt... just strange.

  • Getting one of these done on monday for my shoulder... I'm terrified of needles, and when the surgeon I have been seeing about my shoulder said for this test that they use a small needle, I started to freak out. This video has kind of been helping me relax, now that I know what to expect.

Atleast it really is just a small needle...

  • thanks for this. my friend is having this done today and she's really nervous. this video helps a lot.

  • thanks this puts me at ease cause my mom is having this done today, and it put her at ease too.

  • Thank you for making this video! It really put me at ease about the EMG/NCV test that I will be taking! I'm one of those people who REALLY doesn't like needles, but the visual concept seen here makes it seem like a trivial thing! Hopefully it will actually be that way! :)

  • I have to have this emg test soon. I'm pleased I watched this video as it doesn't seem too bad now :-)

  • this was helpful, thanks.

  • I'm happy to allay some of your concerns; I had an EMG test performed last year. Unless you consider involuntary muscle contractions or spasms to be very uncomfortable, you shouldn't experience much discomfort at all. In my case, the test was completely painless.

  • this was a very helpful video, thanks! I'm not so worried now :)

  • thanks

  • to the ppl checking out this video because you are about to have an EMG/NCS .. piece of cake. ez, no problem. I had one yesterday and it was a breeze. so just chill and forget about it. GL, take care all.

  • I am gonna take this tomorrow

  • I like it a lot, and benefits very[

  • Thanks heaps for this video. I had absolutely no idea what was involved. I need to have an EMG done on my ulnar nerve, so this was very helpful and set my mind at ease for the procedure. Thanks again

  • I had no idea what an emg test is so this video was definitely very helpful. Thanks.

  • Thank you for this video. I feel a little better knowing what is going to happen. My EMG test is today, and I wanted to find info online as to the procedure.

  • I'm in NY and am having this test done this Feb 2010. It is informative, but I am a little worried. I did learn what will happen when I have it. Thanks.

  • my wife went under this test, its a little painful but very useful to asertain nerve conduction or muscle strain etc. its a 30 minutes job, don't worry nothing to worry about.

  • I'm in Ontario CANADA> and I'm having this done this coming Feb 2010, Looks OK. This for the Video.

  • Thanks, I have a test coming Jan. of 2010.

    Was a little worried.

  • Thanks for posting this vid, I'm having an EMG this week (in Canada) for carpal tunnel and wasn't sure what to expect. Doesn't look too bad.

  • thank you very much I need a test pretty soon!

  • this is helpful video thank you so much the person who posted this video

  • thank you for the video...i learn something that i didn't know

  • i liked the video, I have a EMG and NCS test coming up on Thursday, and I was a little scared

  • These tests aren't done in Canada to save money and let the patient suffer and die in agony. This is under Canadian healthcare.

  • I have an EMG scheduled for Dec. 4 and I am in Ontario. Maybe this is new to Canada or they don't offer it in all provinces.

  • thanks for posting the video, I'm getting it done next week and just wanted to familiarize myself with it

  • very very informative, going in tomorrow 9/1/09 had it done before , i wanted to see if there was any changes . i had the emg in '94' thanks for the video.

    ELZINA

  • Oh my goodness, thank you for this video. I read the description that the doctor gave to me about the procedure and got crazy scared for the needle bit. If it's anything like acupuncture, though, which I have had before, I'm not really looking forward to it. D: D: D:

  • I have had this test on 5 different occasions. Please do not be scared as they are not very painful. :-) They sound a lot worse than they really are.

  • Thanks for the video and comments, I was worried about my testing next week.

  • whew! OMG! i am soooo glad i read everyones commentson the emg test! i was terrified! thanks!

  • The EMG doesn't hurt at all - the needle is just a sharp poke, nothing more. And when you get zapped, it really just feels like your arm suddenly twitches by itself. It's sort of a strange feeling, but I've been through worse.

  • I had one today. It wasn't too bad. The acupuncture needle left some bruising but the actual testing of the nerve made me laugh because it was actually a little bit sore (not sure why). Conclusion was; my nerves in the right side are not 100% as they should be but its not too serious, im also having a bone scan on Tuesday.

  • As I replied to meihmy5, thanks for the description of your EMG. I'm to have one on Monday and am terrified. Your comment will probably enable me to sleep for the next few nights!!!

  • To those facing an EMG test, relax.

The electric charge they use is mild. You can certainly feel it, but it's not painful. It's milder than a good static shock.

The "needle" isn't a typical needle. It's solid rather than hollow, so it's thinner than an injection needle. It's like acupuncture. Typically you won't even bleed after the needle's removed.

I personally hated having that needle repositioned, but even that wasn't actually painful. Just unpleasant.

  • Very informative and calming, going in an hour to have an EMG!

  • very informative now I know what to expect

  • its not bad. it does not hurt but ya do get zaped. i was laughing because when he first did it it caught me off gaurde

  • im having one of these on friday and i hate needles lol

hopefully it wont be to bad tho

my bone in my arm broke and hit my nerve and screwed it up.

  • Had it done a year ago, it's not fun, but it's not too painful :) good luck!

  • So this would help diagnose why I shake, twitch, and have frequent tingling sensations and how to treat it?

  • i'm having this test in a few weeks, for carpal and cubital tunnel. i keep hearing that it's very unpleasant, so wasn't sure what to expect. this helps give me a start to understanding though. thanks!

  • Am having this done next week. Thanks for having this info available. It helps to know what to expect:)

  • I had one today and it's not as bad as it sounds.I wouldnt' say it was painful. Has anybody rubbed their foot on a carpet and then touched somebodys skin?? It s like that but only lasts for a second. When he said he was going to stick needles into my muscles i was dreading it but that's not painful either because they are really fine and they only go in a bit.

No one needs to worry about it...it's a doddle!

  • Excellent and informative video, clear and concise, thank you - I am having this test done next week and now know what to expect!

  • This exact doctor gave me an EMG today...he's out of Lawrence, MA

  • very helpful. thank you

  • good information

    thankyou so much.

  • thanks for the information

  • Thanks alot im having one on friday... not to woryed after watching that dosent look too bad lol.

  • hmm, I have to get one at the end of the month. I'm pretty nervous about it, but this definatly helped to explain alot thanks =)

Doesn't seem like it's gonna be anything close to the pain or discomfort of a spinal tap.

  • just had one today. not something i'd like to do everyday, but not really so bad. try not to worry too much if you're going to get one. the nerve conduction part is pretty simple...little shocks..not too bad...the needle part isn't my favorite, but it is a small needle and not bad really. just relax.

  • That was very interesting. I'm having one done next week and it helped. Thanks!!

  • very good

  • It's very cool!!!!: i'm a Neurophysiology student in Portugal!!!!!!
