I dont even like country, never have, but Gerry Douglas is the FIRST guy Id have in any type of band because he has so so much soul, taste, class and humility. If anyone could get me into country, bluegrass folk ..he could. He kicks the shredders and jazzers into touch, there s no sound on Earth quite like him and you spot him a mile off when he guests and sprinkles his magic on peoples songs. Right, Im off to build a shrine in his honour.
'Amazing' is a word that doesn't encompass Jerry Douglas, because he goes so far beyond that. Who's playing acoustic guitar? He's also very impressive.
This is one of my favorite bluegrass clips of all time. I am honored to have seen him play multiple times at the TBF!! Thank you Jerry for sharing your love of dobro and music! We have all been blessed watching the dobro make its glorious journey to the front of the stage!! God bless you!
Little follow up... Saw Jerry, Sam Bush, and Edgar Meyer Friday nite. If you get the chance, YOU MUST SEE THIS SHOW!!! SUPERB! Afterwords met MR. Douglas, such a gentleman, He started to give me a thumb pick but didnt have one... As I started to walk off he said to me... "Good Luck on your recording session next weekend!" How slick is that??? To have Jerry Douglas wish you good luck on a recording session!!! Go see this gentleman and buy his records!!!
You got that right. He can play all the traditional stuff as fast as anyone wants it to be, and then he has an added muscial sense that nobody else has. He can take dobro and fit it in anyhing - and tastefully. His live show is the best show that I've ever seen from ANY musician.
