  • love for all my brothers and sisters no longer with us-we are the stars that shine twice as bright.

  • every junkie's like a setting sun...

  • powerful stuff

  • the highs are like a blink of an eye, then the shit lasts a long time.....

  • "Milk blood to keep from running out"

    Phwah!

  • I thought opiates would help me become a better writer... until I started forgetting basic words...

  • I find it weird that i never done coke or heroine or ever want to, but i have crazy dreams about doing them. They are the only nightmares i ever have because something fucked up or scary always happens to me in those dreams. I never have nightmares that don't include me doing drugs. I have them about 2 or 3 times a week. I have no idea why i have these dreams, they scare the fuck out of me. Maybe i just need to keep listening to Neil Young and they might go away.

  • @dustin741

Lol, I have drug-taking dreams as well.

  • hugs are better then drugs when your on them.

  • fucking tune....the mans a legend!

  • @fuzzyLOMAX1 he is

  • did 26 years ia'm alive

  • It's crazy that he wouldn't even be deeply affected by the needle and the damage done until the next year with Daniel Whitten's death. This song, to me, foreshadows the pain he'd feel on albums like Tonight's The Night and On The Beach.

  • I was supposed to go see my best friend at his halfway house the day before he od'd and died. i blew him off. i just made a mistake. that was almost 2 years ago but i think about it everyday. not that i would have necessarily changed his path, but just the fact that i blew him off makes me wonder everyday if i could have had an effect on his decision to relapse that day.

  • @jmills1215 I know what that is like, my mom called the night before she od'd, and I often times wonder what would have happend if I did, that was like four mounts ago.

  • But every junkies like a setting sun. Amazing. Nearly nine years clean, trust me recovery is possible.

  • I never understood why people would let drugs hook them so much that it controls their everyday life. I tried heroin a couple times, never with a needle though. Then I understood.

  • been clean 9 days struggling struggling struggling. but have been implanted with aan opiate blocker so fingers crossed. love neil young and this song is so true xx

  • Chills...

Love music like this!! Really, what feeling you get listening drum&bass/dance/dubstep?? The beat... Nothing more.

  • True talent

  • The greatest song writer today.

  • You know, I hate hearing people bitch about artist they don't like more then hearing good things about the artist I don't like.. All you can do is choose to not listen to music.. I've found that bitching about them only makes they're name get around more and makes you look like an ass. In case you haven't notices comments about how much justin bieber or lady gaga suck haven't stoped them from creating music.. So shut the hell up about it please!!! I came here for neil young. spread the message.

  • Heroin has gotten big in my small town, my uncle was a smack junkie.

Thank God he's off it now, he wasn't the same.

  • To my brother Jeff. I wish I could of helped.

  • I struggled with hard drugs all my life. Im off "those" for now. Thank God for weed.

  • I've been clean for a few months now, but it is far from easy. It really is an everyday struggle. seriously though, if any teens are reading this just say no to drugs. no questions asked they will ruin you, and hurt everyone who cares about you. I went from living with my beautiful girlfriend of 5 years to sleeping on the 6 train. fleeting fun is just that, it's fleeting. also to all of you still strugglig, keep up the good fight. trust me it does get better, and people will forgive.

  • @rocknroll19842 Well said man. I lost a friend during the whole 90's heroin scene. He'd never tried anything up til our freshman year in high school. He suddenly started hanging out with the wrong people and smoking a little weed. By our senior year, he'd tried about every drug under the sun, and was well into the grips of heroin. He said nothing had ever grabbed a hold of him like H did. A few years later, I got a call from his mom saying that he'd overdosed. Such a shame. He was a great kid.

  • @rocknroll19842 Im hurting but I will be ok..

  • @Samjeno keep pushing through buddy. the first couple weeks are hell, but no hell matches addicton. Hot yoga+brazilin jiu-jitsu is what helped push me through. it's amazing what a good workout can do for you when you're craving. even a light stroll + your ipod can do wonders. keep up the good fight, the grass is greener on the other side.

  • @rocknroll19842 Thats why you say no to them in the first place...unless some one holds a gun to you and makes you do them...then theres no excuse to take them in the first place.

  • @TheGrizzlyBear69 well some people have tougher lives than others, and choose a wrong path. I am sure in your entire life that you have never made a bad decision that lead you down a wrong path. People are not perfect, especially when they are young kids. I think I made a specific point that said kids should never touch them. so why don't you take a step down off your high horse. Trying walking a mile in another man's shoes before you start handing out judgments.

  • @rocknroll19842 i'm almost18 i dont live no easy life but the way i see what i said to me is true...we all have tough times...some people are tougher than others and can handle it others cant, and i'm pretty sure 17 is still classed as a kid.

  • @TheGrizzlyBear69 Hahahahaha I am 27 son. live 10 more years 5 of which have been lived in NYC and then come talk to me. By time I was your age my mother was dead, and since my father has never been in my life, and my step father had no intrest in taking care of me anymore i was living in my car. That's right son, by time I was your age I was living on the streets and had no family, zero. I have pulled myself out of the gutter a few times. live life a little then you can talk.

  • @rocknroll19842 So because i'm 17 means i havnt had a tough life? My dad died when i was 2..then my step dad used to beat my mother for several years when growing up from abou when i was 4 to 7 she commited suicide and i ended up in care, i then got foster parents and lived with them since i was 10, i to have been tempted with drugs but refused..you judged me thinking i lived a easy life, when yet i dont...theres still tough times.

  • @TheGrizzlyBear69 I never said that you haven't I am just saying you have a lot more living to do before you can call adults who have fucked up weak.

  • @TheGrizzlyBear69 I am not trying be an arrogant prick, but shit man you have a lot of growing up to do before you can criticize adults who have messed up. I hope your journey goes better than mine has little buddy. I really do hope you never touch drugs, and I mean that with all my heart.

  • @rocknroll19842 I wasnt critizing i was just giving my opinion on what i thought i understand peoples opinions can upset others and shouldnt always be said but i just felt like i had to say it, apologies if i upset you and stay strong and dont go back to drugs you still have a long time left like my self, or atleast lets hope we do.

  • @rocknroll19842 Can't agree more what drugs to do you man. I'm 4 months sober, had a horrible alcohol addiction and pill addiction. Nothing can compare to waking up and realizing you stole off your mother :/ But you make amends and you push every day to stay sober and it will get better. Good luck to you (:

  • @rocknroll19842

Please keep up the good work and stay sober. I lost my son nine months ago due to heroin. Remember to find help if you feel weak.

  • @slimnfld507 sorry to hier that

  • @slimnfld507 I am truely and deeply sorry to hear that. I finally reached the point one night where I just had enough. I threw my pills, and my bag of coke down the toilet, and I haven't looked back. I have fought so much that the thought of even doing drugs again makes me sick. I am so sorry about your loss, hearing stories like yours gives me the fire in my soul that I use everyday to fight my demons. I extend deepest and most heatfelt condolences to you and your family.

  • @rocknroll19842 If you made it this far, my friend... You are strong and you just can't ever look back and even think you can have 'just a little taste' cus you will have phucked yourself all over again. The Monkey is off, don't ever let him climb back up.

    Peace,

    SpeakTruer

  • @rocknroll19842 yes just say NO it will be the worst life you will live.... nothing is more important to you no one can say or do anything to help until your willing to help yourself.... so plz don't even start..... Ive been clean for 10 yrs now.... So those of you that are trying keep up the good work.... I know i have faith in you..... Now you have to too.......

  • @rocknroll19842 I've also got a few months this time. I am 59,HEP C, Cirrhosis, but God keeps me alive for something. I want a shot of dope real bad right now. God will restore what you have lost. Just not on your timetable. GOD BLESS YOU!

  • @rocknroll19842 dose weed count lol

  • @SuperChris2k10 hahaha, personally I don't consider weed a drug, and I never had problems with it. It was the coke and pills that got me... I don't smoke anymore, because I have been fucked up for the last 6 years. So, for myself I needed to see the world from sober eyes. But I am sure down the road I will smoke again. Some people will disagree with me, but weed doesn't hurt anyone. It is not a gateway drug, now alcohol in my opinion is the true gate way drug.

  • I've seen this video a thousand times. Why do I keep coming back to it?

  • @sawfish111 Because it's real music with a real story to tell. Something we sorely miss in music anymore.

  • damnit Lyn

  • thank god for sobriety and for Neil Young...

  • Every junkies like a setting sun

  • I'm 32 had friends at 25 to now take different paths to destruction...niel sings true winnipeg songs...little part in me but i controled it

  • @ccapplesprinkles sorry about your friend. Been there.

  • @ccapplesprinkles :((( Sorry to hear that, bro.

  • @ccapplesprinkles Condolences, man, like others have said... been there... lost a lot of friends to drugs... it sucketh bigly.

  • cant seem 2 get the pickin individual strings out of the strumin on my guitar very well. vary hard to play this song ,to look so easy. this man got so much talent, that he straps on a mouth organ and plays along with him self. manoman happy new years 2 all

  • This song as I have gotten older mean more than I ever thought. Seen life taken and destroyed. It's a hard way of life and many will never get it.

  • Tomorrow, 20 years of recovery under my tires. A spirit guide to the spirit less. He told me I am so happy when my heart starts beating again. one time to many. His heart stops 250 beats a day. He has 30 days now. Not quite right, definitly not wrong. I think of him and smile.

  • who the hell would not like this song. those 78 people will burn in hell.

  • the past, he is the best of grunge

  • what does 'milk blood to keep from running out', mean?

  • @leonakita -It means using the syringe to draw your own blood, then heating it up and trying to sift the heroin out of it in order to hopefully get high again. It's a sad, desperate, dangerous thing to do, usually done when all attempts to score more dope have failed.

  • @PieceofMindmusic ty for that explanation

  • @leonakita No problem.

  • @39120c's:

YOU ARE THE DUMBASS, I AGREE HE IS TALKING ABOUT HEROIN. SOME GUY ON HERE THOUGHT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT WEED. DUMBASS....THIS IS PRICELSSS.... AND A BAH HUMBUG TO YOU TOO!!

  • Comment removed

  • @saintangelfire I have no idea who you are talking about.

  • Every junkie`s like a setting sun. Timeless and brilliant.

  • My shop teacher looked exactly like neil young now that i think about it

  • RAW

  • 77 poeple were to f^&#ed up to hit the like button

  • absolutely brilliant artsit.

  • weed algood needle bad feel good but really really bad its a life stealer a but you never ever stop wanting it ...it sucks

but weed algood no worse than alcohol

  • You can't argue with truth. Is what it is. People who really know and have lived through it, regardless if it was thier own demon or that of somone they loved REALLY get this this song. Bless you if your biggest arguement is about weed & may that be all you ever have to deal with.

  • He is talking about heron, of course. Milking blood to keep from running out.

  • tryna get thru my damage done!

im 22, fingers crossed i make it!! my junkee life is killing me very quickly,i hope i pull the strength from somewhere! this song always hits a cord for obvious reasons!!!

    FANTASTIC!!!:-) xxx

  • @coastal52 try asking the AMA, they seem to think it worthy of being used for various and sundry reasons. Or you could try to stop judging people. Either would work.

  • every time I hear this song it brings memories of a friend who was heavy into heroin, and believe me, the damage done can be horrifying and sad. Thank God with my help she got through it, but it cost her several dear friends along the way.

  • I love ya baby, can I have some more?

  • As a side note. you DONT need god to help you do it. All these addicts in recovery thanking god ect, well if that works for them then whatever but dont ever let some asshole talk you into religion to get you out of it. Im 11 years clean and i did it myself with support from friends and whats left of my family. NOT GOD. I am an Atheist.

  • I have been there ! And Thank GOD I am CLEAN !!! GOD BLESS the addicts that are clean and be with the ones still using ! I pray for all addicts still caught in the grip of their addiction That they find their way out before death or jail finds them ! Amen <3

  • @gentletumbleweed i feel for anyone who has been an addict or knows one... 2 close friends died of an OD. i do have to say...if you really do care i would do a little more than pray (cause praying never helped anyone). Go to your local shelter and volunteer. Find some anti drug programs in your area and show how much you truly care. sorry to say but speaking some words to someone who may or may not be real seems like the easy way out and not to mention is will most likely have 0 effect.

  • @gentletumbleweed Amen and Amen

  • Danny W.will be missed...

  • Aah 1979 me and 7 of my mates piled into the Riley Elf heading down to Camber Sands every weekend to play the video games and run wild on the dunes. We used to play Neil Young on the cassette player with one speaker. Life was stretched out in front of us like an endless summer holiday. Before you know it summer is winding down. Kind of feels like that for me with the economy etc... So I visit you tube to sip the last of the summer wine. Cheers everyone.

  • dumbasses marijuana has caused no deaths, marijuana has not one single case of causing lung cancer alone. no not everything you smoke will give you lung cancer educate yourselves

  • king

  • 76 dislikes???????... must be junkies!

  • Pittsburgh Loves Neil Young

  • the marjuana plant was used to relieve pain in the old days, they would drink it like tea, if they had lots of pain of in surgery aka cutting off legs or wounded body parts, but smoking it is wrong cuz it's addicting and causes lots of illness suck as lung cancer, lung diseases and/or heart, arteries diseases. come on i haven't smoked up in over a year u guys can 2!

  • @fmishaan1 you are a retard

  • Though I'm more into heavy stuff, I really enjoy music like this!

  • Milf blood?

  • @freakinstein69 Milk-Blood ;) The blood with the white heroin

  • i shot heroin and made it though-what a visious drug

  • Lost so many friends to the needle very few made it out and those who have stay strong

  • but every Junkies like a setting sun, I mean they all go down, one way or another. funny (maybe not) the things we can use to justify or and identify the life of just that, and meanwhile every so often another goes down, I mean like C ya, so cold - who ahhhh

  • Always a great listen...Thanks Neil

  • Comment removed

  • I miss that song... Thanks Neil Young

  • You can quit dope (w/ help) only when you are sick and tired of being sick and tired. I know how disgusted I had become w/ myself. If you are smart enough to score dope, you know where to look. It's up to you. Only you can change you.

  • @GDS4VR Seems like you are on the verge of kicking the monkey with your post. Get rid of it brother...

  • @IronJustice08 Thank you for the encouragement. I'm 59 and can't go back out again. I've learned many times in the past clean, serene, + sober are the best way to live. Glad you are their!

  • @GDS4VR Your welcome bro. I am always encouraged by people with the strength and courage to face their addictions and take that difficult step to change their life after years of the same habit. Recovery is a long and hard road. I used to wake up saying "Good God it's Morning". Now I say "Good Morning God". Stay strong and believe in yourself. Life is good! Wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  • @IronJustice08 I'VE TIED TO WHIPPIN' POST. Hey if you don't want to be an addict, down freakin' GO there, duh....

  • @GDS4VR i cod change you!!! 1 kutt +2nidels vhit ass jus

  • @stormgordon well every kind of smoke cause lung cancer but you dont have to smoke marijuana through a joint you can smoke it from a bong where the smoke is colder and you can eat it as a muffin but anyway i smoke weed rarely because it makes me unmotivated and very lazy also im dumber but that happens when i was smoking every day now im smoking it rarely and i dont give a fuck but i know people that smoke weed and are positive and motivated so its a relative thing im talking about my self.

  • @GDS4VR AMEN !!! Been there too ! Life is so much better CLEAN !!! God Bless

  • Who are the idiots on here saying weed is bad and gives you lung cancer? There is not ONE thing wrong with weed, AT ALL except that it is illegal and it should not be.

  • @39120c smoking anything will give you lung cancer. weed is fan-fuckin-tastic in moderation.

  • @pinhead739 Well i guess weed's the only thing that doesnt then

  • @39120c Compelling argument.

  • @39120c Burning ANYTHING and letting it go into your lungs will potentially lead to lung cancer, whether it's marijuana, tobacco or sugar cane!

If you want to smoke dope, then smoke it ... but don't delude yourself that your increasing your long term cancer risk. That's stupid!

  • @ustabe sorry ... don't delude yourself that your NOT increasing your long term cancer risk.

  • @ustabe Ok, and that's why not ONE person who has ever had lung cancer has had it linked to weed.

  • @ustabe Actually it doesn't increase the risk of lung cancer. It's not good for your lungs, but doesn't increase the chances of cancer.

  • @39120c "There is not ONE thing wrong with weed, AT ALL except that it is illegal and it should not be."

You're probably right... it shouldn't be illegal.... but what exactly does it DO for you?? (I always like to hear stoners try to explain this. Funny stuff!)

  • @coastal52 Um it gets me high? Wtf else, it's relaxing and makes you feel good, it's just being high. Wtf did you expect me to say?

  • @39120c A walk in the country is relaxing and makes you feel good... and you don't have to break the law to do it. What is it about weed that makes you risk fucking up your entire life and possibly going to jail just to use it? Some might call that an irrational act.

  • @coastal52 some people like to call that choice.people go overdose on alcohol yet weed is frowned upon......go look up what you can make from hemp dumbass an you'll see why weed is illegal not for the fact you get high off it but for the amazing amount of renewable resoursces it makes in less than quater the time off pine trees that wat sort of people own?rich......politicians?......the word canvas derives from what word????canvas

  • @benjanova16 "some people like to call that choice.people go overdose on alcohol yet weed is frowned upon"

I don't frown on weed and don't think it should be illegal. As far a drugs go, it's a weak sister. All the more reason why it's so irrational to risk jail to use it.

  • @coastal52 sails on all the old ships where made of ?the british ordered the americans to grow what before independence? the declaraitoin of independence was made out of what paper???think about it weeds been used for centuries until now cause some texan saw what the mexicans where making an growing in a season in what takes him 20 years????look it up. not all stoners are idiots some just dont know how to spell....lol dont hate weed cause its illegal.hate it cause you tried it an didnt like it

  • @coastal52 What do alcohol and cigarettes do for people? Your answer lies there, smartass.

  • @39120c I smoke weed, but saying that there isn't anything wrong is a bit naive. If like me, you smoke it in a spliff form then you're smoking on average more than a whole cigarette's worth of unfiltered tabacco. Now that isn't technically the weed doing damage, it's still cause & effect. Same as if you smoke it in bong format, it's more likely to cause slowing of memory intake.

  • @39120c Young here is refering to the damage of the drug lifestyle and when you have lost enough people to drugs either death or prison or whatever damage, you will see for yourself if you have eyes. Anyway don't think I have ever seen anyone try to inject weed, now who is the idiot?

  • @saintangelfire .....um apparently you are, wtf are you talking about? The song is about heroin dumbass.I'm arguing about weed from people who a while ago commented saying it was bad for you, wtf are you talking about?

  • @39120c exactly, the only reason its illegal in the U.S. is the government can't find a way to tax it, to easy to grow, just about anywhere, field, garden , basement, hydro, if they could control it and tax it, it would be legal, be glad they haven't found a way to tax oxygen, lol

  • @39120c sucking smoke into your priceless lungs is VERY BAD. period. Losing your reasoning ability when u r high is VERY BAD.

  • @PInk77W1 Yea, you don't lose your reasoning ability when you are high. There have been no harmful effects of weed going into your lungs throughout the years at all.

  • @39120c i dont smoke it so i dont know... can u drive high? my guess would b that u do lose your reasoning ability. But like i said i dont smoke and i dont know.

  • @39120c i love weed, but dont pretend its something that its not. i'm fully aware how harmful it is.

  • @bassgroove21 IT.IS.NOT.HARMFUL.AT.ALL!!! What about it is harmful and show me proof it is.

  • @39120c I believe every word you say, and know that taking weed is a personal choice that affects only that person. In that manner, i believe people should be free to make their own choices, (since any negative outcome can only hurt themselves). However i would not take weed to deal with Chemo-Therapy (check my spelling). As i said before, it gives you a false joy. Reminds me of the traitor in The Matrix who wants only to not remember a thing and live in his false paradise.

  • me and my girl were horrible junkies, we had been smashing since 16 now 19, she 6 months prego and was still useing, so i fucking put her in jail and sobered up, its sad knowing she cant even do it for our own child...breaks my heart

  • A lot of great artists get affected by that, a lot of great art goes down the drain..

    Sooo true Mr. Young..

I sing the song because I love the man I know that some

    of you don't understand...

Milk blood to keep from runnin out

    Speaks volumes...

And no its not the first time aahahah I heard this..

  • im very proud to say ive seen neil young in concert 3 times, and ill deffinatley be seeing alot more of him

  • And to all of the junkies who came home from Vietnam....we DO appreciate your service to the United States of America. YES, WE DO

  • that is the voice of god!

  • @Ausiegingerkid, God damn.......

  • one of my Father's favorite bands. I used to help him tie the rubber hose around his arm. I was too young to know. You just do what Dad says. It took many years before I could understand. By then he was gone.

  • @Ausiegingerkid wow... i feel for you...

  • 73 people are FAGGOTS!!

  • Such a magnificent song. Regardless of what it's about.

  • i remember when the taliban was in power & they made a law mandatory for all men,`you grow a beard'.the penalty was death if you didn't have a beard.thou ,if i were president instead of bush,i would of dealt with it ina whole other way.no war.it cost money to war, jobs was lost, calling up the reserves was not a smart thing to do.all these people had high paying jobs & was ordered to war.there families lost that income to sustain there way of living.thats why i did not join the reserves.war cost

  • I confess im a pot head and im addicted, im not a bad person I just have my crutches....

  • Comment removed

  • @tekNiqueAU Dude you cant be addicted to pot...

If you think its harming your live just quit there are not any phisical withdrawal symptoms,i gurantee you that :)

  • @dimsadms Lol, ignoring the lung cancer, short term memory loss right?

  • @WHYCANTIFINDONE Lung cancer? bronchitis yeah , lung cancer doubtfull. Never heard of anyone getting lung cancer from smoking pot. I think you made that up .....didnt you.

  • @WHYCANTIFINDONE oh come on evry kind of smoke you inhale cus lung cancer and besides that there are ways to inhale marijuana without a smoke like a vaporiser or eat muffins also smoking from a bong it makes the smoke colder so it wont burn your lungs that much.

Bad things about weed is that it makes you unmotivated if you smoke a lot but that doesnt have to be right cus i know a lot of people that are motivated and smoke weed all the time so its a relative thing it depends on the person.

  • @tekNiqueAU Your not addicted (not physically) your phsycologically addicted. If you stop smoking you wont get sick like a heroin addict will if he stops (thats addiction) I smoke pot everyday but ive had to stop periodically for 6 months at a time for work. its easier than you think. If you have a real reason to stop, you would.

  • @perf5paul Ive given given up for like a week before numerous times, I end up getting night sweats after 2 days and get pretty cranky. I only smoke after work, in moderation its fine. Sometimes you have those nights where every 10 mins your pulling one. Thats what gets me.

  • @tekNiqueAU Yeah , na im the same man. sleepless nights and night sweats aswell. Maybe because i have to abstain for work now and then i have good quitting techniques.

  • @perf5paul needles suck. weed is Great, its a gift from god so please try to understand the Difference. thank you.

  • @SonofTheSIXthSun

    fuck you

  • @SonofTheSIXthSun why dont u just not take drugs

  • @SonofTheSIXthSun Weed gives you a false reality, it plays a trick on your mind. There is nothing spiritual or good about it. I prefer true happiness over artificial pleasure.

  • Comment removed

  • @SonofTheSIXthSun What are you on about idiot. Im completely pro weed,

  • So true, knew some myself.

  • my comments below represented the musicians who were putting there feelings, beliefs in there songs.it is real today.this music does not get old.`eve of destruction' by barry Mcguire.hey we went to the moon,it is in this song>WHY?it cost billions upon billions.well that market is over, everybody raised there kids to be blind, accept previlege, now they are all unemployeed.none of those @ nasa will ever work again, you know why!they expect special treatment.pay & privilege.a lame vet gets so little.?

  • More like the Pipe and the damage done these days, but Neil's point is well taken. We've just gotten better at messing our lives up with drugs. And oddly, music artists are some of the biggest users of drugs. Marijauna was a fad among jazz musicians in the 1940's and 1950's. Why do I know this. Simple. I'm a musician too!

  • RIP John Dynes Jersey City, my Friend, my Buddy. But he was known to others as "JunkieJohn". not to me. I love him.
