I think the dynamic here is that Holly's parents are very unsupportive. Her mother tells her daughter that she's smart, but not attractive. Marina's parent is "loose" and teaches her daughter that her duty is to get laid.

I've seen people in toxic, co-dependent relationships. This is a textbook case.

I saw this on t.v once (the first part is the only part I remember,I had one friend at that time and I could relate to it(saw this in 2003)and a year later my shallow ''friend'' didn't want to be friends anymore because she wanted to be with the popular stuck up girls. I made other more trusting friends after.

You could be right, but Marina acts experienced, and I think that's the problem. It seems that part of her distress is that Holly lost her virginity first, so what choice does she have? Now she has to lose hers too, even if it is with the guy she turned down a minute ago. Marina can't bear for Holly to have something more than she does, or to somehow trump her. That was how I read her.

I assume it's having sex, he's already decided he's going to sleep with her and he knows that shes a virgin. It could also be the effects of the heroin that he's telling her not to be scared of but I think it's more likely to be that he's going to sleep with her.
