The music itself is meditation. When I play this... I'm not alive... nor dead... I just am... just being... And that feels so lonely, but also so good... I hope the next life is like that... really worth to die for.
@Mystep---I can tell you that Arvo Part's understanding extends far beyond the Materialist belief system, that he has long realized that we are more than bodies and are of immeasurably greater significance than "sparks on a pebble."
@PolkRidgeAesthete I meant our short organic lives on earth are like sparks on a pebble. As for the rest, nobody really knows what follows or what in essence we are. Every second of our lives is important so let's just hope for the best and be nice to each other.
@Mystep I try to accept that our individual consciousnesses end and we hvae to do all our best while being on earth. To endure this task we need arts.
I don't know what to feel when I listen to this. Life is a mysterious journey. I think it's important to shine on as best we can 'cos we don't last very long on a cosmic timescale...Sparks on a pebble.
Great piece by Arvo Part but I don't like this version. The blatting horn in the treble just gets annoying. The version I have has the upper register done in the woodwind voice of the organ. Much smoother and mellow than the piercing horn.
@guibox3 I agree entirely. Actually all voices should be played all on the same manual. As the title suggests the piece is constructed on the concept of a the strict relationship between two voices, neither of the two should emerge more than the other.
Beautiful piece. Anyhow I prefer the version for harp, performed by Floraleda Sacchi and released on DECCA Universal 476 3172. And the disc also includes wonderful music by Nyman, Glass, Machajdik, Cage, and others.
And then, there will be peace. Rest. Finally. Our time will die with us. We are the last. I wish so dearly for that final peace, that rise-less sleep. As time marches on, we grow more tired, more pained. Dose it never end? another second's pain, another hour's dread, and then, perhaps, we shall be rested upon the shoulders of God. Maybe then, we shall sleep. It will end. Finally. I am passing.
@Siegerzkranz ~ perhaps in the end, a somber conclusion clear and unrewarding may be the fact of living. However, to those who enjoy their life or who are in the ecstacy of their youth... is your art helping in any way?
He's dead. The man is dead. It's been eighty years of pain, and terror. He is dead.
This is not my doing. This is not anyone's doing. He is dead, and nothing will bring him back. We too shall die in our own time. The hand will always be that of time. Time did this. And so another year of excruciating wait. Another year of pain and dread, then we will all give in to the grasp of time.
(Just came into my head listening to this. Very tragic, and very good music.)
oh God, give me tears to cry the death of my soul.. i murdered You and my self.. pleace, pleace ,FORGIVE me!! i feel your mercy and i feel i don't deserve it.. You see how broken i am, You see that the death runs thruu all my vains, and the venin of my sins is slowly making my soul to die.. and my body to..i came to Your Light now with all my wounds and with my wounded heart and i fall on my knees: i don't deserve forgivness but i don't know what else to do.. were will i go? i wanna sin no more!
YOU, my human companion in this Life, search the truuth in my words: i think about my self that i am a liar and a lie, that i am desperate, and lonely, that i'm full of death and fear .i don't know nothing, and nobody does.i have to find rest and i need God to show me mercy to let it pierce in to my broken heart.. you my friend are like me.. just rest for a while, for a minute, here with me, we are going to die let's cry togetter, togetter we will not be rejected by God and we will receive mercy
Eerie and so beautiful.

IMHO, the best performer for Pari Intervallo - Christoph Maria Moosmann.
Christopher Bowers-Broadbent makes timing mistakes.
