@ATCRyderX Back in your day Ho-oh had already appeared in the first episode of the anime which introduced most of us to the series. Not to mention the fact there were going to be 190 Pokemon in the original games but only 151 could fit so the rest were added to Gold and Silver.

The only reason we never had the first two generations, was because we never had a Gameboy or Gameboy Color. We DID have a few books, cards, figures, and VHS tapes. I find it interesting how the different segments of the Pokemon franchise are geared towards different age groups. The show is obviously for children, whereas the card game is for anyone over 12 (according to the boxes of starter sets), and the games seem to be for all ages, with elements that kids would enjoy yet much deeper game elements that only the older fans seem to be able to grasp.
