It should be that antiquities should be kept in their original countries. If you want to see something Greek, go to Greece, not to London and the British Museum. We've plenty of artifacts in storage to fill the gaps the Parthenon Marbles would leave.

After they were transferred to London the museums director ordered to remove the brown fuilth that covered them. That was their natural colour, and these marbles were some of very few that did not become white with time; extremely rare considering that most people think statues were made white!

i have gone to the new museum in greece and in the british museum.I know that the british museum is very nice but the parthenon marbles are very important to us.they are our history and our culture and the new museum in greece is amazing and the most suitable place in world .

I love both Greece and United Kingdom. I have traveled to both countries I have a few things to say -
Greece is a beutiful country but the museums are overcrowded and unorganized. Ancient buildings and old buildings from the 1800's in Greece that have to be protected are not. The Greek people abuse these things everyday
In the UK everything is organized and civilized.
I would say keep them in the UK where they are safe because Greece doesn't even know how to take care of itself

I can show you an example about how @(I*%^( some of you are. When I went in London, I visited the museum with the greek marbles. Next to the marbles, it hada sign that said that These marbles are from Greece, and i gave some ino about them. In the end, it was saying, "the rest of them ARE STILL IN GREECE"

This is ridiculous. In 1806, the transaction was deemed legal by the rulers of the land at the time, the Turks. They didn't have the knowledge to understand their cultural value, but nobody is guilty of exploring a good opportunity. So the pieces shall stay in London forever.

I would love to see the sculptures returned to Greece for the rebuilding of the Parthenon which still stands today, even in its ruinous state, as the most enduring symbol of Western Civilization in the world. Bring them back!

Όταν θα φθάσουμε σαν λαός να τα αξίζουμε να τα έχουμε πίσω τότε πρέπει να τα ζητήσουμε. One excuse for removing the marbles was that they would not have been preserved otherwise.
After they were transferred to London the museums director ordered to remove the brown fuilth that covered them. That was their natural colour, and these marbles were some of very few that did not become white with time; extremely rare considering that most people think statues were made white!
So, they preserved them just fine!

There have been two polls on the matter and in both of them 40% of English people want them returned and only something like 15-16% of people want them to stay in England. I think some of the impetus to return them comes from the journalist Christopher Hitchens, he's where I heard the story of how they were looted. They're very important culturally, but for that reason they should be kept in the country that produced them.

The British side underlines the fact that the New Acropolis Museum neither can change the current regime, nor can change the British Museum belief that “the sculptures form part of the world heritage and go far beyond the narrow and restrictive cultural limits”.
Bearing this into mind, we can easily understand that Big Ben is also part of the world heritage, so Greece can take it. Of course, after two hundred years England can borrow it for three months. I think it is fair, isn't it?

I love both Greece and United Kingdom. I have traveled to both countries I have a few things to say -
Greece is a beutiful country but the museums are overcrowded and unorganized. Ancient buildings and old buildings from the 1800's in Greece that have to be protected are not. The Greek people abuse these things everyday
In the UK everything is organized and civilized.
I would say keep them in the UK where they are safe because Greece doesn't even know how to take care of itself

This is ridiculous. In 1806, the transaction was deemed legal by the rulers of the land at the time, the Turks. They didn't have the knowledge to understand their cultural value, but nobody is guilty of exploring a good opportunity. So the pieces shall stay in London forever.
